A Great Bolognese, Beautiful Architecture, and Other Fun
Raise your hand if it is still Summer at your house? It was 107 here today. We headed to San Luis Obispo and had lunch at Lure (Scouty’s favorite spot) and then headed to the beach where it was 65. Today let’s join Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday faves. Let’s chat about A Great Bolognese, Beautiful Architecture, and Other Fun.
Jeffrey Dungan on Instagram
If you have been reading this blog long you know that I am a huge fan of architect Jeffrey Dungan’s work. You can view his entire portfolio here. If I were young and had a lot of money (not happening), I would hire Jeffrey in a minute. I have featured him many times on the blog here. You could say I am a bit obsessed with his work. He is a genius at incorporating the surrounding landscape, and marrying the structure with the land. Last year we were visiting Steve’s brother in Knoxville, Tennessee. We were on their boat on the Tennessee river. We cruised past a beautiful home and I said to Steve, Jeffrey Dungan designed that home. They all kind of blew me off (who is Jeffrey Dungan?). I took a little video and put it in my stories, Jeffrey kindly responded. I am pretty sure he is that kind of guy (a big deal but doesn’t think he is)

I was scrolling through my IG feed today and spotted some of his latest work here. Read the story, it was a project for an interior designer who had cancer. I often think of the Tim McGraw song with the lyrics “always be humble and kind”. I don’t know Jeffrey but I have a feeling he is. He could have passed on the above project, but because he appreciates the value that people bring to the project…he completed it and told her story .
Outfit of the Week
There are so many great sales going on right now. I have linked my favorites at the bottom of the post.

This beautiful faux leather blazer from J Crew is the best I have seen this season. It is such a classic and is 40% off. I paired it with my favorite wide leg jeans from Frank and Eileen, some great mules from Etsy, a chambray shirt from J Crew outlet, an Amy Kesterburg bag (love the wide strap), and a neck scarf from J Crew outlet.

This faux leather blazer from J Crew Outlet is a great price, as are the jeans from Gap, the bag from the Coach Outlet, the scarf from Amazon, and the purse strap (also from Amazon). I don’t like skinny cross body straps. I am always afraid they will break. I own this strap in a different pattern and plan to buy a couple more. The shoes are from J Crew at a great price. The toe box looks like it might be wide enough to accomodate my bunion too!!

Bon Apetit Bolognese Sauce

We are having friends over for dinner tonight and I am going to make this bolognese sauce from Bon Appetit. I aske Leslie Lord from Hostess of the Humble Bungalow for her recipe and it is very similar to this one that I had lost the recipe for. I am going to cook it in the crock pot because the boys will be watching the game and it is too hot to barbeque outside. I will serve it with a simple salad.
Nobody Wants This on Netflix
I have been enjoying this romantic comedy about a rabbi and an agnostic sex podcaster. Is anyone else watching Nobody Wants This?

Thank you for reading A Great Bolognese, Beautiful Architecture, and Other Fun. What are you up to this weekend? I am cleaning out my office, more to come on that project!
Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their Sunday favorites.

My husband and I made the Bon Apetit Bolognese last night using the written recipe and their video, which really helped. It was a lot of work and took several hours, but was absolutely delicious! We served it with roasted asparagus. We felt like we were having a real gourmet meal. It was so special that we decided it would be our anniversary dinner that we missed in July because we got Covid (after avoiding it for years and being fully vacinated)!!! Fifty-three years and going strong!!
Hi Helen
So glad you enjoyed the bolognese. We had it Sunday night for dinner as well. I made mine in the crockpot which made it simpler.
Still summer where we are … will fall ever arrive?! Love your outfits of the week. I can’t wait to watch Nobody Wants This. xo
How do you change the recipe to make it in a crock pot rather than on the stove? Can’t wait to try it!
Hi Julie
I sauteed the vegetables and browned the meat, added the milk and wine and cooked it in the crock pot on low for several hours.
How do I link to MaryAnn and Annie?
Thanks 😊
Hi Jess
You click on the links the large links at the bottom of the page that say Classic Casual Home and Most Lovely Things.
I remember that house and comment on
it every time we go by!
Hey you! How are you? You guys need to come visit!!
As a “shiksa” who married a Jewish man-and converted, we both LOVED “Nobody wants this”. Adam Brody nailed it.
Converting was an easy choice for me, I didn’t grow up with any religion, I am agnostic, and believe you do good in this world, don’t worry about a possible next one. As I was taking conversion classes-the Rabbi told me-it didn’t matter if I believed in G*d-it was living a good giving life, always helping others. I liked that, plus-I mean-the holidays & food are amazing.
49 years later-with sons Adam, Aaron and our late son, Jesse, it was the best decision I ever made.
My conservative San Marino parents learned to accept me. But walking to a different drum-always a good thing.
L’Chaim
Oh my gosh I love your story Sandy!! Isn’t that series great? I hope it continues for another season!
That’s the bolognese sauce I make too. Just a tip….double the recipe, it’s great to have in the freezer in two person serving size amounts. Makes a quick and easy homemade dinner!
Hi Lisa
Guess what I did just that !!
Yes!!
I double or triple and do freeze for
Future meals for two of us. It’s perfect.
Your outfits of the week Cindy are so good! Love that red bag with the wide strap! And all of the accessories!
And now I want to make bolognese! Yum!
Have not started that series yet, but I’ve been seeing it everywhere!
Hi Annie
I think you would love it! I love bolognese sauce. I used this recipe for years and lost it somehow. I made another that wasn’t nearly as good! Leslie Lord reminded me!
I have been making that BA
Bolognese sauce for years. It is, in my opinion one of the BEST!!
Thanks Judy I agree. I lost my recipe somehow and thanks to Leslie who sent me hers. I remembered it was from Bon Appetit!
Jeffrey Dungan is so talented and good to know that he is a nice guy too. Have a wonderful dinner party!
Hi Mary Ann
I have always had a feeling he is as kind as he is talented…
