Best Spring/Summer Bags for Women Over 50 at Every Budget
With Spring just around the corner, and Summer on its heels you may be looking for a bag to accompany you on our upcoming adventures. A great bag isn’t just a practical necessity; but a reflection of your personal style. We want something that’s both chic and functional, right? So, whether you’re dreaming of strolling along the Riviera or simply enjoying a leisurely afternoon at the farmer’s market, I’ve curated a selection of the best summer bags to suit every budget, no matter where your summer takes you on the blog today. Let’s chat about the Best Spring/Summer Bags for Women Over 50 at Every Budget.
Best Spring/Summer Bags for Women Over 50 at Every Budget
My go to bags for Spring and Summer include a functional tote bag to carry all of your essentials to the beach and for travel, crossbody bags with adjustable straps (for everyday wear) hands free shoulder bags , and maybe a clutch for a summer wedding or a night out. Some of the current handbag trends leave me scratching my head like the tiny hand held bags (with a top handle) worn on the wrist (highly impractical in my opinion).
Straw Options for Every Budget
You don’t have to spend a fortune on straw satchels or raffia bucket bags or totes if you don’t want to. There are numerous options from high-end designer bags to those with a great price point. The luxury bags may be better for durability but not always. FYI if you have your eye on a luxury bag Saks is having 25% off New Arrivals.

With my Janessa Leone tote, I am wearing my favorite Michael Stars tee, super comfy Bryn Walker pants, and my Summer raffia baseball cap.
I have dragged my Janessa Leone bag to the Farmer’s Market, the beach, and on numerous trips. What I love about it is you can carry your hat on the front if you tire of wearing it.You can see how I styled it multiple ways in this post Five Effortles Ways to Wear Black This Summer. You can also find hat clips at the San Diego Hat Company, or in multiple colors and styles on Etsy here.

I purchased this Janessa Leone beauty on sale last year and love the back pack option! Here I am wearing it with the Tuscan Travel set from Frank and Eileen, this great faux leather belt similar here, and these sandals (similar here)
Spring Summer Crossbody Options

In this photo I am wearing an older Eileen Fisher t-shirt dress, gap icon jacket, napkin around my neck as scarf, and no longer available MZ Wallace bag in this color.
Fun Pop of Color or Pattern
I love a pop of color or pattern to add to my neutrals.

I am styling my Wayuu bag with a shirt dress, leggings, and sandals from Eileen Fisher.
If you are looking for a travel tote to take on the plane, make sure there are plenty of compartments, an interior pocket for your phone, room for your wallet, laptop or tablet, bottled water, snacks, maybe a small umbrella, and roomy enough for an extra small purse or evening bag. I like a top zipper or magnetic closure, and a cross body strap. If it is water resistant all the better.
Whether you’re drawn to the breezy charm of a woven tote, the hands-free ease of a chic crossbody, or the timeless elegance of a classic leather bag, I hope you’ve found a summer companion that speaks to your style and budget. Remember, the perfect bag is one that rocks your own style and is ready to embrace all the joys of the season.
As always thank you for being here and reading Best Spring/Summer Bags for Women Over 50 at Every Budget. Do you have a summer bag that you can’t do without? Please share!

Hi Karen
Today was a beautiful day I do believe Spring is on it’s way!
Thank you for a great post with super straw/raffia options. I have been looking for one for a while now.
Also love the raffia baseball hat – copying!
Hi Gray
That raffia baseball cap comes in black too! I think I need it!
Wow, Cindy! I love your picks, especially some of those straw bags. Great finds!
Hi Susan
I love a straw bag for Spring and Summer!
So glad that you did the purses. I picked the Sezanne. Had just been looking at bags and nothing quite caught my eye. Wanted different and light weight . Can’t wait to see this. Thank you. Loved all your choices.

Hi Jan
I love that Sezanne bag too!!

So sorry Becky here you go https://rstyle.me/+mwFtUKsOOCWQLnm5w_HaYQ
Hi Becky
I fixed the widget and emailed the link to you. Sorry!
It might be fun someday to do a comparative of some of the expensive brands and versions that are available on TikTok Shop and other online shops. I saw a video of outfits that were done like that and then they had people try to pick the expensive brand. Often they couldn’t tell which one it was.
Hi Patty
Yes I have done those before, maybe we should do another!!
Lovely collection of bags Cindy thanks for the post. Really love the artisan ones! I have a small J.McLaughlin wicker crossbody that is dressy and very useful and always gets compliments and l also love Naghedi St.Barths. I have a beautiful olive one in small and an earth color, l love the browns especially. Happy day Cindy!
Hi Francesca
Are the handles long enough on the St. Barths to put it over your shoulder? I can’t handle a bag that can only be worn on the wrist. I love that mustard color in the Naghedi!
Hi Cindy,
No not the handles it does come with a strap that matches the bag.Hope that helps.
Hi Francesca
Good to know! Tnanks!
Fab, Fab, Fab! Can’t wait for Spring. Almost time to get out the spring wardrobe.
Hi Leslie
I am ready for Spring as well. Here we usually go from cool weather to hot!!
All the bags are gorgeous! It would be hard to pick one (or 3 or 4 !). It’s a wonderful reminder that summer is just around the corner.
Hi Lindsay
I know…I have my eye on a couple!!
The shorter tops are just not flattering. Make you look wide.
Hi Patty
You are right they often can do that unless you wear them with a higher waist pant and have a small behind!
A very kind response to the comment. I so enjoy your blog, and love your style. It is always a joy to see what you have for us each time you post. Thank you for all your work.
Hi Irene
Thank you so much! I so appreciate each and every one of you!!
