A Charming Maine Home, Weeknight Dinner Recipe and More
Happy Sunday! Today I am joining my pals for our Sunday faves. Let’s dive in with A Charming Maine Home, Weeknight Dinner Recipe and More.
Weeknight Orzo Shrimp and Feta
Our wonderful neighbors invited us over for dinner last week and she served this Orzo Shrimp and Feta dish (old recipe from a cookbook no longer in print). This recipe from Sip and Feast has the exact same ingredients. I watched her prepare it. It was simple and delicious. It would be a great week night dinner.

Outfit of the Week
I love olive and black for fall (or anytime really) You might enjoy my post Ten Chic Ways to Style Olive and Black for Fall here. If you don’t like the black and olive combo why not add a pop of orange? An orange cashmere scarf would be pretty with either of these looks.

This COS knitwear outfit comes in black as well. I think this outfit could be styled so many ways. I love it with boots but it would be great with sneakers for travel as well. The quilted bag is from Quince, the sweater is from COS here, and the culottes are from Cos as well. The scarf is from Echo, and the booties from Gentle Souls.

This would be a great travel option with the addition of the Samba sneakers a bright orange scarf from Vivaia, and a New York Yankees baseball cap. If you don’t like orange you could substitute your favorite hue!

I love this flattering ribbed dress from Quince. The beautiful leather bag is also from Quince. The boots are from the comfy brand Gentle Souls. The scarf is from Echo and the belt is from ADA. If you want a looser fit in the dress I would size up.
Frederic Magazine Maine Home

Designer Stephen Earle (photographed by Maura McEvoy for Frederic Magazine) saved this charming Maine home from demolition. I love the mix of the old and new and the pop of orange. You can see more of the home here in Frederic Magazine.

Better Homes and Gardens Composting
We have had a compost heap since way before it was “chic”. Now our compost is picked up with the garbage collection. I love this article from BHG 17 Everyday Items you did not know you could compost. Were you surprised by any of these?
When Someone Dies too Young
Yesterday we attended a celebration of life for someone in our community that died way too young (in her 50’s). I was dreading it to be honest. We have known them for many years as wine club members. I got to know her better recently, and respected her devotion to their land, their wine, their family , and her incredible sense of style (I featured them here on Ageless Style). Her family kept it positive and it was amazing how the wine community came together to celebrate her life.
Thank you for reading A Charming Maine Home, Weeknight Dinner Recipe and More. Annie, Mary Ann and I will be back on Tuesday with our fall favorites from Quince. Let’s pop over and see what they are up to today.

Cindy, I remember reading the profile about your winery friends and am so sorry at the outcome. As you say, too young…
I love the little orange sneakers and the scarf. I love orange. It’s a feel good colour for winter. Looks great with navy, camel, black, grey – add in animal print somewhere and you’d nail it, knowing you.
Have a quiet moment with Scout – dogs always make us happy.
Cheers.
Hello Cindy! As always I very much appreciate your posts, sparkling and unerring style and great ideas and suggestions for both fashion and decor – big thanks.
My condolences on the loss of your friend Jo Ann. Very sad and way to soon for such a l0vely bright spark. I have found great solace listening to Faure’s transcendent and gorgeous Requiem in facing and accepting loss – it is well worth a listen if you appreciate classical choral music.
You recently posted some fabulous desserts including a pumpkin salted caramel cake. Your photo looked totally yummy, but also like you made it in three 8″ cake pans. The recipe calls for four 4 six inch cake pans. Did you adapt the recipe in any way to compensate for the different pan size? Pumpkin season will be here soon and it looks like a perfect treat.
Again thank you for all you do.
I too remember the post about your friend, and just reread it now. When I read it the first time I remember thinking what a great life; happy marriage, children, work you love in a beautiful place and a great community. Yes, she died way too young. Life is short, but she left her mark and she will be remembered
Hello Cindy,
Thank you for today’s full and wonderful post!
I love the brand Quince! They have been my favorite resource for linen and knits for a couple years. Their quality far surpasses the moderate price of their products. Their customer service is wonderful.
I am so very sorry to read of the passing of your beautiful friend, JoAnn. What a privilege it was to meet her through your story of her ageless style. She was authentic and so lovely. By her passion for living, she brought beauty and best to her community. What a legacy she left for all who knew her. I give hugs to you as you miss her, my friend.
Love,
Lynne
Dear Cindy,
I do remember the story of Jo Ann and Cris. At the time when I was reading about them, I thought they were a great couple and I so enjoyed reading about their life together. I so related that they worked together and appreciated the relationship they have.
This passing saddened my heart this morning. Jo Ann passing away so young is very tragic. Cris, the family and community are in my thoughts.
You take care, life is a gift each and everyday. I know from reading your blog you live yours completely.
Give yourself a big hug, a passing like this stays with you. I have had many that have passed and a celebration of life we are attending next month. It is just so hard.
Oh my gosh. I remember the story of your friends in Paso Robles. She was beautiful and had such style. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend and send my deepest condolences to her family.
A reminder that every single day counts!
Love the outfits of the week. And you can bet I’m making the shrimp and orzo dish. Yum.
Sorry about your friend. My condolences to you and your family. I printed the orzo recipe planning it for Labor Day dinner.
Went to order the COS sweater set in olive but website has it only in beige.
Just wanted you to know…

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Cindy. I remember her vibrancy from your post and feel sad for her family and the community.
Hi Pat
We didn’t know each other that well, but we have known the family for years. It really struck a nerve with me. Waaaay to young and loved by many.
Well you know this is something that sticks with me. I am so sorry you’ve lost your sweet friend and so sorry for her lovely husband.
While my Dad’s service was on Wednesday, he was 91 and lived a long life, before Alzheimer’s took him away. But my son, brother and sister in law, all died young and with each loss, they all rush back.
Thinking of you, Cindy as you mourn Joann. 🩵
Hi Gray
Oh my I know what you mean. Nothing like your loss. I did not realize that your brother and sister-in-law died young as well. As you know my sister should have had a long full life too, but alcohol was her demon.
Oh, no. I’m so sorry to hear about the death of your friend. I remember reading your profile of her (and her husband) and thinking what a great couple they were, how they epitomized California chic, and how I wanted their lives. Now, we know she was already fighting cancer. It makes me sad we never truly know what someone is going through at the time — and reminds me to be grateful for our short time here!
Hi Bette
You are exactly right. I had no idea her prognosis was so grim. I am sure that is how she wanted it.
I re-read the story on your friend who passed away. Just saddened me deeply. Why more people seem to be dying younger. Thanks for sharing
Hi Lisa
I know it does seem that way and often those who live a healthy lifestyle…so very sad.
I’m always saddened by the passing of someone too young. I’m sorry.
The salad looks delicious. I will be trying it soon. We’re still too warm for my comfort here in SoCal but the nights are cooling. Phew.
Karen B.
Hi Karen
Our nights are really cooling off here but the days still warm up!
How very sad about your friend. Beautiful pictures of them in beautiful Paso.
Hi Kay
She was a very talented stylish lady…
Lovely post! I want to make that Orzo dish this week! So sorry about your friend.
Hi Mary Ann
Thank you! Off to read yours!!
