Ageless Style-Jennifer Connolly

Hi Everyone it’s time to join Elizabeth from the Vintage Contessa for our monthly Ageless Style segment. I am really happy to welcome my blogging pal Jennifer from a Well Styled Life.  Jennifer and I have yet to formally meet but we have joined forces for a monthly fashion edit and have really enjoyed working together.  I am really happy she let me twist her arm and join us. She even allowed me to choose the pictures! I love her fresh take on the classics for women over 50.  Welcome to Ageless Style-Jennifer Connolly.

Ageless Style Jennifer Connolly

How long have you been blogging

I have been blogging since 2012

Has your blog evolved over time or has your concept remained the same from the start?

It has definitely evolved a lot. Many of my early posts seem more like a rambling diary to me now. There was a time, I wasn’t sure if I would continue to focus on fashion and style. Then I realized those were the posts women seemed to enjoy the most.
I’m still not overly comfortable in front of the camera but it’s a necessary part of my business.

What type of advice do your readers most often look to you for?

My readers seem most interested in how to style things to flatter their bodies. They love Dressing Room Diaries because it allows them to see the possibility of clothes they might never try on. (Here she is in one of her dressing room diaries segments).

I know I learn from my readers every day.  I would guess it is the same for you.  What have you learned from your readers?

I’ve learned that my readers are a diverse group of women who love the give and take in my comment section (I do too)! I’ve learned they are very interested in color and want to wear ones that flatter them.

Who Inspires You and Why?

I am inspired by women who take simple items and create a striking outfit through the use of styling and accessories. The placement of a brooch, the use of scarves, these inspire me to explore in my own wardrobe.

I know you are petite.  How does this affect your personal style?

I seldom shop in the petite department because I have broad shoulders which make the sleeves too short. I would love to wear bold clothes in vibrant colors but they enter the room before I do so I need to scale my clothes to my size.

What is your favorite accessory?

That’s a tough one…sort of like picking a favorite child. The one category would probably be scarves because they can stretch your wardrobe and always look polished to me. Earrings are a close second because I seldom leave the house without a pair on.

What are your favorite color combinations?

I love neutrals and I’m a big fan of monochromatic dressing. I love to dress in a head to toe similar shade, with varying textures for interest.

Do you have a signature piece that defines your style?

I’m going to say a crisp white shirt because I always feel well dressed in one. My collection is a bit embarrassing but each one has its own charm. The second would be a hat because I love them.

What are your favorite beauty products and why can’t you live without them?

The older I get the softer my coloring becomes so I need makeup to be seen. I always pencil in my eyebrows, wear blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, and lipliner. I usually wear an eye pencil and an undereye cover is a must.

Do you have any style rules that you live by, or do you choose to break the rules

I believe in knowing the rules so you can break them. I prefer to think of them as tools we can learn from, then dress to make ourselves feel confident.

What are your favorite online and or boutique sources?

Nordstrom tops the list, followed by Everlane, Etsy, Talbots, and Net a Porter.

Do you have a particular diet and or exercise regime that you follow?

I don’t eat anything that gives birth to live young. That cuts out beef, pork, lamb, etc. For many years I only ate fish but gradually added poultry. I am gluten intolerant so avoid it when I can. I eat organic everything and wild fish.

Do you have any anti-aging foods and or supplements that are your go to’s

I take a lot of nutrients but I can’t say I swear by any of them.

What advice do you have for women over 50

Lighten up, experiment more. Watch other women and try the ideas you like on them. Don’t get stuck in a rut…life’s too short to not have fun getting dressed.

I admire Jennifer in all of her views on clothing, makeup and health–she has it covered! Her approach is light and refreshing-knowing what styes she loves and commits to, changing out makeup, and being open to change, because there is nothing worse than not experimenting and exploring new looks and updating products. Best of all, Jennifer knows her “stuff” and is sure of it!

    Hi Jennifer,
Good to see you here. I’m always reading your blog. I may not comment that often but trust I’m there. You were the one who inspired me to buy that Tokyo dress. I think that’s what it’s called. I also have that Artful home white shirt by Planet. I also love that white shirt you’re wearing sitting on the couch. Where is that from? I’m thrilled to see your success! Bravo to you.

I love Jennifer and had the pleasure of meeting her years ago… I’ve forgotten how long it’s been… at a blogger’s conference in Las Vegas. We got a car and a driver to take us up and down the strip and look at all the neon signs. So fun! xoxox, B

    Good morning Cindy,
I love Jennifer and her blog and have followed her for years. I am ashamed to say that I haven’t commented in a long time… sorry Jennifer. I will have to be better about that! I love Jennifers’ classic style and frankly I love the fact that she wears leggings/leather as you do. That is not a look for me and I could never pull it off at any age but it looks fabulous on you.
Thank you for sharing, have a wonderful day!
