Ten Chic Ways to Style Olive and Black for Fall

I love the combination of olive and black. Olive tones down the seriousness of the black and adds an element of fun. Olive green is a great “neutral” that works well for most skin tones. If olive works for you, shop your closet for some of your favorite black separates and have some fun. Let’s chat about ten chic ways to style olive and black for fall.

If you have been reading this blog long, you know I am a huge fan of the lily skirt from CP shades. I have yet to find a skirt that mimics it. It is all about the cut and the way the fabric flows. It is an investment, but one I turn to again and again. If you can wear a large, there is a corduroy one on eBay right now. I paired it with a great staple, a lightweight wool layering turtleneck, and beautiful scarf that I purchased on sale at Banana Republic. I accessorized the outfit with native american bracelets, a concho belt, and a necklace that I have owned for over 30 years.

I love this jacket with my Eileen Fisher sweater and pants. These two separates from Eileen Fisher are must haves in my opinion. Eileen Fisher Skirt, Sweater and Scarf styled by Cindy Hattersley

Eileen Fisher let me choose four pieces from their fall collection. I chose the merino jersey crew, the merino slim pencil skirt, the boiled wool jersey wide leg pant, and the fine merino jersey poncho. These are great capsule wardrobe basics that you can wear for many years to come. Of course, they are all winners. The sweater and skirt are perfect for this time of year with a light wrap. I am wearing them with a necklace from IBU (no longer available similar linked below) and the great viviaia boots.

My Dear Cindy, I’m so happy I found you. I love your style tips, but I must say it’s made me spend quite a bit to update/re-invent my wardrobe. It’s all worth it as I am getting so many compliments. I viewed an old post of yours where you were wearing a gray eyelet tunic from H&M. It was no longer available from their stores but buy searching and searching I found it on Ebay and now it’s mine !!! Thank you again for getting me out of my wardrobe rut.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

As for the Feed bag, I have purchased several styles over the past few years, and they make great gifts. Oh my gosh – that DIVINE velvet jacket! It’s stunning and I would snap it up if it was available in anything by XS.
I’ve never worn olive/khaki and don’t wear black but the ideas you have given can be transferred to one’s colours of choice so thank you once again for your inimitable style and inspiration.

Never apologize for what you think is a lengthy post! I get so excited when I get one of your emails – especially with all your fashion ideas. I have many similar pieces that I haven’t thought to style in such a way. So I jump up, go put an outfit together, take a pictures and come back to your post. I consider the jumping up and down exercise 🙂 I love your posts. Thank you.
