World’s Best City, Foods and Decor you don’t Want to Miss

If it’s Sunday I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday favorites. This week let’s chat about the World’s Best City, Foods and Decor you don’t Want to Miss.

TRAVEL AND LEISURE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD

No it isn’t Paris or Rome, New York City or…it is the city of Oaxaca ( I have heard a lot about it but haven’t been). We are planning a trip to San Miguel de Allende soon, maybe we should add Oaxaca to the mix. Any suggestionsfrom those of you that have been?

LIFE AT BELLATERRA

I miss a lot of my blogging friend’s posts for lack of time. Mary from Life at Bellaterra always has interesting tidbits to share. This week she shared a recipe she wanted to try from Ambitious Kitchen a Spicy Cheddar and Fall Apple Sandwich. Does this sound yummy or what?

SENSE OF PLACE

I have mentioned this before, but now that I actually have the book in my hands, I can’t sing the praises of Sense of Place loud enough. The team of Caitilin Fleming and her mother Julie Gobel is a win win. I loved their first book Travel Home, but this one is perhaps my favorite design book of all time. I have to admit the main reason I purchased the book was to see Jill Sharp Weeks Santa Fe Home. I am in complete awe of Jill’s style.

If you have been reading this blog long you know I am a huge Jill fan. I keep begging her to do Ageless Style forever, so far no luck. Caitlin and Julie feature so many homes of tastemakers and designers that you have never seen before. It is so inspiring. I highly recommend it.

The adorable uber-stylish Jill. Note the layered necklaces and belts. She rocks the collected look.

Ageist-Tumeric as Effective for Acid Reflux as Pharmacy Drugs

We have long hailed the virtues of tumeric, this article in Ageist regarding acid reflux is very interesting. Do you take tumeric as a supplement?

Family and Friends Sales

Apparently this is the time of year that everyone rolls out their family and friends sales. I hate to say it but X-mas shopping is on the horizon. This might be a good time to grab something for a friend or family member before the crazy season begins.

**EDITIORS NOTE: After this went to press I noticed Old Navy is having 40% off of my favorite sweatshirts, and these leggings that have worn really well for me. The sweatshirts are better than a higher priced one from another retailer. They are so good. Sorry I just noticed these when I woke up this a.m! The sale only lasts another day. I ordered four pairs of leggings and four sweatshirts and spent around $150 with my gap cash!

I didn’t create an outfit of the week (this week). I feel like we have been on fashion overload lately. I will be back on Tuesday with fall decor ideas for my own home. I will be back with Jennifer at the end of the week for our Over 50 Style series. We will be talking about knitwear and cashmere. As always, thank you so much for spending your Sunday with me, and thank you for reading World’s Best City, Foods and Decor you don’t Want to Miss. I so appreciate your support. Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann to see what they are sharing this week.

    Hi Cindy,
I ordered the book, can’t wait for it to arrive!
Mexico scares me right now, but I know there are so many artists who adore San Miguel Allende, and Oaxaca is supposed to be really fabulous.
Sandwich ingredients are fun to play around with. I was always experimenting, until I started eating gluten free. I’ve yet to find a really good GF bread alternative. But it’s worth keeping up the hunt just o be able to try out this combo!
Hope you’re having a good week!
    Xo Heidi

      Hi Heidi

You are going to LOVE Sense of Place! The art scene in San Miguel makes me curious! I don’t eat many sandwiches even though I LOVE them. I have a weakness for bread.

  2. Katie Clooney says

San Miguel is one of my favorite places in the whole world! We have not been to Oaxaca City. Hope you have a wonderful time, dear Cindy!!

  3. Dory says

Seems like San Miguel also has many events year round. Please let us know what your itinerary is. I always want to be sure I don’t miss the best spots to see, shop, eat etc!
    Thanks

    Hi Cindy,
I had to read your post twice because the sandwich looked so delicious, I could hardly wait to fix one.
I never even thought about Old Navy carrying workout pants. What a great tip. I love your fashion posts but it’s nice to see some of your design finds and posts as well.
Have a wonderful week. Is it really October already?!

      Hi Karen

I didn’t either. I just randomly found those sweatshirts! I think sometimes the gap/banana/ old navy/athleta has some overlapping in quality. You just have to stumble upon the finds!

  5. Susan D. says

Your fashion postings are my very favorite part of your blog. So–you can never be on fashion overload as far as I am concerned!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan

Thank you so much. I never want to be exclusive with fashion. Interior design is too close to my heart!

Cindy I can’t wait to hear about San Miguel de Allende. .. and maybe Oaxaca! SM has been on my list for a long time. Yes Jill’s part in that book is so good. She has great style. You and she are so similar!
I think I’ll make this sandwich one night this week! It looks so good.

Hi Cindy, my husband and I have lived in Mexico during the winter for 25 years, We’ve spent a week in San Miguel twice.
It’s quite lovely, however one thing we didn’t love is that expats didn’t seem as integrated with the wonderful local Mexican people as we experience in most other places.

When in San Miguel, don’t miss the 45 minute side trip to Mineral de Pozos!
Once a vibrant town, it became pretty much an uninhabited ghost town for many years, but has slowly been awakening as an interesting colony of artists. I believe they have an Art Week event in February.

Other wonderful inland cities are Colima (an hour inland from Manzanillo (be sure to visit the historical Arts & Crafts Museum there) Guanajuato, Guadalajara (where we’ve visited several artists’ home/working studios). and Morelia (often referred to as Mexico’s most beautiful city).

Though we’ve not yet been to Oaxaca City, friend who live in Mexico year round have said it’s gorgeous and their favorite place to spend the month of August, when it’s so hot and humid in Nayarit.

      • Cindy Hattersley says

        Hi Sue

That is very interesting about San Miguel. I have heard that before. I am curious as to where you spend most of your time? Mexico City perhaps? Thank you for all the great tips!

How soon can I get to Oaxaca … what an inspiring and unexpected selection. It looks enchanting.. And speaking of enchanting, Sense of Place arrived this week and I’ve barely been able to pull myself away from it. I hope Jill succumbs to your pleas to share her ageless style secrets with us. Happy weekend! xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda

I know very interesting. I have been hearing so much about it in the last few years…

  8. Annie Diamond says

    Cindy!
I knew we would all be talking about the new book from caitlin Fleming and Julie Goebel!
So much good stuff today! Love jills style! So your vibe!xx

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Annie

I think this is the best one to come along in years!! I love it even more than their first book and it was quite good!

  9. Mary says

Immediately looking into flights to Oaxaca from Houston! Looks amazing! And need to order that book for my sissy for Christmas. One gift down, check! Do you mind sharing what size you order in the Old Navy sweatshirt and leggings? I have no frame of reference and they’re not available in store near me.
    Happy Sunday

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary

Yes of course! I ordered a medium in the sweatshirts because I like them a little big and a small in the leggings. I am 5’4 130

  10. Cathy L says

I have been to Oaxaca City – twice. It is amazing!! So much to see and has the best Mexican food ever!
I stayed near the Cathedral and was able to explore much of the city on foot. And both times I hired a guide for a day to take me out to some surrounding villages, which I would do again.
I’m not home right now, but when I can I’ll send you a list of my must see places!
