Tuesday Miscellany

Hello Friends.  Well, the times certainly have changed in the last few weeks haven’t they?  This photo was an outtake from a recent fashion post.  Needless to say, I a not dressing like this of late.  On Thursday I will be joining Mary Ann, Annie, and our pal Carla and we will be sharing our at-home workspaces.  I will also share what I am “wearing to work” these days.  In the meantime join me for a little Tuesday Miscellany.

Do you read Collage of Life?  Jeanne penned a good post this week The Way I See it Saving Graces on enjoying nature and embracing family time.

I don’t know about you but I need a manicure and I am not very adept at doing my own.  Many of you have asked about my gray polish. When things are back to normal I will get a gel manicure as I am hard on my nails.  I made sure both of these also come in gel as well. I have a feeling going forward even if we get a professional manicure, we will want to use our own polish. I almost always wear gray but I don’t care for the real dark colors even though they are popular. I ordered without a stitch and press pause by Essie for summer. Waltz is great if you don’t work in the dirt (like me).

I also ordered mooning, sunday funday, and saltwater happy.  I am trying to go outside my comfort zone and be a little more daring. I have linked them all below.

Do you follow Jute Interior Design on Instagram.  I love everything they do.  This was a kitchen they did for the San Francisco Showhouse.  Isn’t it fabulous?

Do you follow Sandra Sallin on Instagram? Sandra is a former actress and her husband a retired producer/director. Sandra has started doing videos and they are full of fun and information.  FYI she is 78 (you would never know!) and adorable .

Tuesday Miscellany

I am making this soup today.  I will share with my neighbors one who is elderly and the other recovering from surgery.

Love this gorgeous home by Matthews Design featured in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles and Design Chic.  You have read my praises before about Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles here.  It is such a great magazine at a great price.  I somehow let my subscription lapse so I renewed it.  You can order it on Amazon here for $19.95 per year (worth every penny in my mind).

For Steve and me the worst part of sheltering in place is not seeing Summer.  It has been over a month since we have seen her and I fear we will not be able to be with her on her second birthday May 9th.  We keep in touch via Skype but it still isn’t the same as being with her.  I worry that she will forget us.

Summer 23 months

However, we are grateful for our health, projects and our garden. The wisteria is beginning to bloom on the fireplace and fountain trellis.  Spring is here!

Great post, Cindy. It must be so hard not to see that adorable Summer and the rest of the fam.
I can’t remember the last Easter where we weren’t in San Diego with family. Love you in that outfit!!

  2. Lorna says

I’ve never tried grey nail polish. I’ve done silver so maybe it’s time to give it a try. I generally like brightly coloured polishes like fuchsia, cherry and orange.
I am sure Summer will remember you. My in-laws live in the US but my son always remembered them, even when he was little, and he would only see them once a year. But I agree that it’s hard.

Adorable picture of that Summer! Spring is an unreliable friend here in the heart of the country. Today it may be 80. By weekend we are supposed to have snow. Too early to be ambitious removing leaves on the ground. We putter around playing “pick up sticks”. Vinca is blooming with its optimistic blue. The magnolias have bloomed in that miracle of time between spring and its usual partner winter rebound. We live in Lawrence, Kansas not too far from the campus of the University of Kansas…which is to say we are not rural. I found a bobcat in my garden this week. My ring cameras are proving to be fun things to show the “night life” in my garden—although the bobcat was lying in the sun about 11 am!!!!! Your garden looks spectacular and the views are meant to be painted.

Super post, Cindy! I love that top and matching shoes. It’s fantastic that you can wear gray polish. I have ‘old hands’, my mother seemed to have the same problem, too! Even when I was just in my thirties, they looked like I dug ditches for a living! I find bright colors actually take away from that problem. 😒

I see videos and have FaceTime visits with my children and grands, now a total of six (Summer is a doll!)! I can’t believe how much I long to hug them, hold them! It breaks my heart. I’ve always felt blessed that my kids all live blocks away. But it may as well be miles. I pray we get through it.

Meanwhile, your posts are so uplifting! You mentioned Sandra, and one night when I couldn’t sleep, I laid in bed in the dark and read her blog posts for quite a long time. She’s a fascinating woman and she writes so well. Thanks for sharing this lovely lady with us!

    Take care, my friend. 🙏

      Hi Jane

I sincerely hope we get to meet one day. We are actually looking at property in the midwest. Well, we were before all hell broke loose! Your comments always brighten my day. I know if we were to meet we would be fast friends. FYI I have those hands as well. Don’t look too close!! Isn’t Sandra inspiring? I always tell her I want to be her when I grow up!

  6. Sandra Sallin - Apart From My Art says

Cindy, thank you for mentioning me. What a delightful surprise. I really appreciate it. I know what you mean about our grandchildren. I do think that FaceTime will help. I FaceTime, text and instagram with my grandkids. But they’re older. If I had young ones I would read to them. Is there a way to play games? This is hard there’s no way around it. But I do thank you.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sandra
Of course! As I always say…I want to be you when I grow up! I don’t think Summer would sit still for a story! She is a mover like her mommy! We face time at least once a week, but it is hard. We miss her so.

  7. Linda Fant says

Thanks again for pointing me in the direction of folks to follow on Instagram. I started following Sandra Sallin about a week ago and I am hooked on this funny, fascinating woman…love her videos❤️ I know how it feels to be separated from your first grandchild😢. My daughter and her husband moved to Newport, Rhode Island when my Mia was 14 months. I flew back with them to help with the move, and then cried as I took off heading back to California. I just KNEW she would forget me. I visited about every three months ( this was before FaceTime) , and low and behold… she remembered me right away!! They were gone 18 months, but this distance did not break the bond! Same thing happened with my grandson six years later, but I didn’t worry that time… and he knew me every time I visited. Summer will not forget you… I promise😁

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Linda

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We facetime and skype all the time but I still worry that she will forget us. Sandra is just darling isn’t she? Have a great day!

  8. Deborah peterson miln says

    Hello Cindy!
How can Summer forget you two? I suspect you are the most doting & loving grandparents there are. Nothing compares though to getting hugs and giving them. I’m so used to being so far away from my grandchildren, but it breaks my heart. I’d like to think grandparents play an important part in any child’s life.

Thanks for all the fun suggestions, & ideas! I’m a big fan of Jeanne’s and have ‘followed’ her around the world. She’s an inspiration and I consider her a friend. As for Sandra, she’s found her calling. What marvelous video’s she creates! Adore her sense of humor.

Be well and enjoy your sunny days in your beautiful gardens!

  9. Karen B. says

    Cindy,
Great post. Yes, between needing a haircut and manicure I’m a mess. Haha.
As far as seeing your sweet granddaughter—I miss my sweet granddaughter so much. We agreed that I could come over and stand on the sidewalk that leads to the front door and she stood in the TV room with the window open and we visited with her 6′ from the window. It lifted my spirits so. I face time with our Austin grandkids but since I’m used to them being miles away, it seems easier to manage.
    xo,
    Karen

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen

I am afraid to get near Summer. She is so young I don’t think she would understand no hugging allowed. Thank goodness for skype and facetime. I bet it was wonderful visiting with her through the window. This will pass.

  10. Mary Kay Tannebring says

    Cindy,
Can you please tell me the make/style of your sunglasses? I love them. Thank you. Mary Kay

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Kay

I don’t know why but this ended up in my spam. I am so sorry. My sunglasses are linked on my over 50 fashion shop page. Mine are prescription but they can be ordered without. They are by Vera Wang. Have a good day!

  11. Connie says

I worried about my granddaughter forgetting me, too. My daughter said she could never forget me because she sees me every day. She face times with me at least once a day. We just chat while I watch my granddaughter. Sometimes, she will come to the phone with a big grin then lean in and kiss the screen. She always breaks into a smile when she sees my face (she is 18 months old). And sometimes, she brings toys to the phone so I can see them. We facetimed frequently before so she is used to it. I wonder how she will react the first time I see her in person.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Connie

I wonder about what they will think in person as well they are so small. What strange times. We will get through it somehow!

  12. susan says

Just wanted to stop by and say big hugs to you. I am sure your gorgeous grand-daughter will remember you and the hugs will be the best ever. Stay safe and enjoy your garden, we are so fortunate to have green spaces to lose ourselves in. Susan xx

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan
I have so enjoyed watching you do your kitchen garden. I have not had a lot of success with vegetables but I love growing herbs. We are so lucky we have our gardens. I hope things are getting better there. There is hope here in California.

  13. Kathy says

Super article! I miss my granddaughter too. I’m wondering about the chambray shirt in the first picture.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kathy
That shirt was a comfy usa shirt from many years ago. It is linen. You could always try eBay!

  14. Barbara at Mantel and Table says

What a great collection of thoughts and ideas Cindy! I can see why you’re missing your little one – she gets cuter by the day! Can’t wait to see your work at home setup on Thursday, but till then hope you have some lovely time in your beautiful home and garden! 💛

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Barbara

Thank you so much for your kind words. Have a wonderful day friend!
