Outfit of the Week, Daniel Sachs & Tortilla Soup

Hi All.  I have been cleaning out my office preparing for the move.  You would not believe the treasures I have found.  Today I will be tacking another closet.  Sound like fun?  Come join Annie, Mary Ann, and me for our Sunday favorites, Outfit of the Week, Daniel Sachs & Tortilla Soup.  Much more fun than cleaning closets.

WHEN ALL THAT IS OLD IS NEW AGAIN

While cleaning out the closet and reluctantly tossing all of my design magazines that I saved over the years, I came across this NY Park Avenue apartment designed by Daniel Sachs from 2010.  Isn’t it interesting how good traditional design never goes out of style?  This was eleven years ago and looks just as fresh today. I apologize for the picture quality.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

I am dying to order this gorgeous shirt from Sundance.  I put together an outfit around it.  I am a bit obsessed with color lately.  Anyone else?  All items except for the pom poms are linked below the picture.  You can shop the pom pom’s here in every color of the rainbow. Here is the link to the madewell jeans I forgot to link below

 PRETTY SPRING POLISHES

I got a little carried away admiring all the pretty polishes.  FYI I usually use Essie or OPI examples because if you don’t do your own nails and like the colors, your manicurist can get them for you.  You might also enjoy my post-Seven Tips for an at Home Manicure here.

TORTILLA SOUP FROM FOOD NETWORK

This was a really good version of tortilla soup that is WW-friendly.  I did not fry the tortillas I baked them in the oven. You can find the recipe here.

REFINERY 29 NINE NEW NETFLIX TREATS TO BINGE ON

This is not a political statement FYI.  This caught my eye because I think Summer might enjoy!

Speaking of the “little firecracker”, here is a pic that I snapped last week while babysitting.  I sure do enjoy being able to spend time with her again.

That’s my five favorites this week.   Thanks for reading Outfit of the Week, Daniel Sachs & Tortilla Soup. What do you have on tap for today?  We are finally seeing a little sun here.  Pop over and check out Mary Ann and Annie’s favorites for some more Sunday fun!!

    Hi Cindy,
I hope it all goes well, the sorting and cleaning.
I’d like to suggest that, instead of throwing things away (such as your trove of magazines which must have been enviable) you post them on CraigsList. Someone will surely be grateful to have them and you’ll have kept useful things out of th elandfill!

Best wishes for a smooth move

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cara

We aren’t tossing anything but I am afraid we do not have the time for Craigslist. I found a taker for the magazines. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. We are hoping to get a lot accomplished this weekend.

Cindy… I threw out 3 stacks of old magazines that I saved. It just about killed me. I love that kitchen pic. Good luck purging! Have a great week!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katie

The thing about the magazines is this. Almost everything is on Pinterest if you look hard enough! I will be doing major purging this weekend. Did you find that you purged enough?

That island was something I had saved for my kitchen here. I wanted a work table style!

I too, love that peasant top, I wore them in the 70’s, so it’s fun to see them come back around!! I wish my nails looked better, they are so short and don’t look good with anything but clear nail polish on them. If I had great nails, I would love the blue!!

I love a good tortilla soup. Something I’ve been making lately is a deconstructed tortilla soup. You make a broth in the slow cooker with pinto beans ,onions, spices and chicken broth. Than you use shredded cooked chicken and add all these different toppings, cilantro, olives, cheese, sliced avacado, jack cheese (shredded),, tortilla strips etc. To serve you put your chicken in the bowl, add your toppings , then ladle the broth over it!! So good!! It’s the cafe Rio Chicken Tortilla Soup!!( you can look it up) it’s nice because if somebody doesn’t like the chicken they don’t have to put it in it, or if someone doesn’t want the chips, or the cilantro or the avocado! It’s great fir a crowd!! We actually take it camping, because I can cook the Broth during the day in the trailer, and everything else is easy to put together. For ease, I use shredded chicken breast from Costco chicken!! Love your blog… I also ordered the essays of EB white… I’ve always loved him!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Martha
That is exactly what I did with that tortilla soup. I tossed most of the ingredients in the crock pot and added the fresh at the end. My nails are short too. I could not keep polish on until my manicurist started using gel. Most of the time it works!

    Hi Joanna
You are so right tensions here in the U.S have gotten to such a level that everything is considered political. I personally don’t get it.

  5. Joanna says

I’m flummoxed as to what is considered “political” in your post. Michelle Obama on a children’s show?

  6. Sheila-Merle Johnson says

I have a similar blouse in my cart at Sundance. I’m drawn to colorful embroidery and prints lately too. And I ‘ve got some different colors of the 2 shoes you showed in carts as well. i must have missed the blog with the news that you are moving. Are you leaving your beautiful house and gardens? Cheers to you, dear Cindy.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sheila Merle

I think we are drawn to color because of covid. We don’t want to think about anything dreary! If all goes well we will be leaving our beautiful home and garden. We will have something smaller with not so much property. We just need to find it! We have considered Sonoma.

    Hi Cindy,
It’s fun to see design work from the past that still looks great. I also love your outfit board. I used to do my own manicure but only recently had a gel nail manicure done for me. I may be a convert. My manicure is still holding and it will be 3 weeks on Wednesday. I do love Essie and OPI nail polish.

Good luck with your move. It’s kind of fun to go through things that have sometimes been forgotten.
    xo,
    Karen

    • Cindy Hattersley says

OMG Karen! A gel manicure is a must for we gardeners. I could never hold a manicure until gel. It will change your life because I know you are a worker bee like me!!

As so many kids suffer at our border and child slavery has been given the OK now signal you are making a political statement. Stop watching corrupt media. Stop children from suffering.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lynn
As you know we are all so divided politically now. I have never seen it like this in my lifetime. I don’t feel that my blog is the place to share my political views. This is a place where women of a certain age share our thoughts about fashion, design, what we like to read, travel and what unties us. Not what divides us.

  9. Sarah says

I don’t envy you clearing out STUFF in anticipation of your big move. In reality, though, we should all PRETEND we’re moving, as motivation to do just that. What a great gift to our children, to spare them that task when The Time comes. I recently read/saw (I read or watch so much these days, who knows?) something about a man who did just that–pretended he was moving and boxed up everything he owned. He only took out items he needed to live, as he needed them. Any items that were left untouched in boxes after two months were donated. If only I were that industrious.
Love the OOTW! You have such panache!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Oh boy Sarah you are right unfortunately we did not do this for so many years. Glad you love the OOTW I guess I need to keep doing it since you guys love it. Love all of you so much for supporting me!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sarah

I love that story! I have spoken with people who felt they purged too much and those not enough. If only I had the magic answer!!

  10. Francesca B. says

Cindy love post thank you! Please can you post the link for the earrings thank you ! Happy week:)

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Franceca

Thanks for keeping me on my toes. I always seem to forget something. I relinked!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Francesca

I fixed the link and emailed it to you as well. I always forget something!!

Get the shoes! I’ve had 2 pair of them (or an other version) and wow, so comfy. I took a black pair to Eurooe two years ago, they were my end-of-the-day, I’m-tired-of-walking pair and perfect. Your granddaughter is adorable– so glad you have more time together.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet
Thank you so much for weighing in Janet I always listen to you! Summer is a total character you called that one!!

  12. mimi says

We had rain & snow here yesterday in the Midwest. Happy to see some sunshine today.
Thank you for taking time to post in the midst of your preparations for the move.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mimi

We will be travelling to our home state of Indiana this summer for my husband’s reunion. They always have it at the end of July when it is hot as a firecracker!!

  13. Katherine says

    Hi Cindy,
A huge job to clean out your home, I can understand finding treasures you forgot all about. I am not sure when you have to move out.
My thoughts are with you having done it several times.

Your outfit that you styled is fabulous, that will look beautiful on you.

The “little firecracker” is precious, what a beautiful child, I am sure her insides are the same, that is the most important.

I love Michelle Obama, she is one of my living favorite ladies, so glad you posted her.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katherine

I don’t understand how any and everything has gotten politcal? Even if we may or may not have voted for her husband, this show looks like a good one. Can we ever get past all this or is this our life forever? I mentioned a pair of pants several years back that were Ivanka Trump everyone had a fit about that as well.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katherine

We have a 75 day escrow so we have some time. I love that outfit too. I have the shirt ordered!! Maybe I will have somewhere to wear it soon!! Michelle Obama is a class act isn’t she?

  14. Annie Diamond says

Cindy! I love your outfit of the week. I saw that we are getting a Sundance store in Westport! Summer is so darling! It must be so fun to spend the day with her! I think that show with Michelle Obama looks wonderful! I saw her on Jimmy Fallon talking about it! Make sure to let us know what she thinks. I have a feeling Summer will have an opinion! 😍

    • Cindy Hattersley says

ha!! you know Summer will have an opinion. It looks cute. I think she will like it. Don’t get why it is political?

      • Cindy Hattersley says

I feel like everything we say these days is taken as political. People are so divided with their political views. As I said I featured a pair of pants that I really liked a couple of years ago that were by Ivanka Trump. Someone had a heart attack!

  15. Cindy adams says

Ordered the J Crew stripped blouse you showed awhile back, couldn’t get it off my mind, won’t arrive till May.
I love tortilla soup, had a friend that boiled the bones for the broth, very tasty.
    When are you moving?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cindy
We are movimg to one of our rentals until we firgure out what we are doing!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cindy

If all goes as planned we will move Mid-may, so we have some time. I love that J Crew blouse. Did you see they have a shirt dress version? Very cute!

  16. Joanna says

I went through all my magazines and tore out only the pages that really spoke to me. I put the saved ones in a file folder. It took stacks down to one folder.
Revlon has a new polish, Ultra HD snap. One coat & done, have you tried it?
I must have missed where you’re moving. 🤔

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Joanna

We are moving to one of our rentals temporarily until we figure out what we are doing. It is a cute rental!!
