Today I am joining Mary Ann, Annie, and a great group of blogging friends for some fun Galentines ideas. I know many of you are still not comfortable entertaining large gatherings so I thought I would put together a simple menu that you can enjoy outside or inside. Let’s take a look at How to Throw a Simple Outdoor Galentine Gathering
In case you are wondering what “Galentine’s Day” is, here is Miriam Webster’s official definition. “Galentine’s Day, formed by a blend of gal and Valentine’s Day, is a day in which women celebrate their female friendships. The new holiday debuted in a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation. The term is also seeing increased use in celebrating any kind of friendship, not just those among women”.
I set up the outdoor table for four.
I grabbed some of my red and black pillow covers to add to the outdoor chairs.
I set the table with seagrass placemats, white plates, black salad plates and black-handled flatware. All items that are available are linked at the bottom of the post.
The napkin rings came from World Market years ago. Striped napkins are from Pottery Barn. You can find the Ich Cha Black Leaves Napkins here.
The Chocolate Marshmallow Hearts are from local purveyor Lula’s Chocolates. I added a simple red velvet tie.
I placed baskets of chips near each place setting so no one would have to dip in a communal basket.
Keep the menu simple so the ladies can just drop by for a drink after work while it is still warm enough to sit outside. I will be serving pomegranate margaritas and Ceviche Salad with warm tortilla chips. Everyone can grab a quick bite have a drink and head home.
You can find the recipe for the margaritas here at Bread Bacon and Booze.
You can find the recipe for the ceviche salad here. This is a super simple salad to prepare. I use one bag of TJ’s frozen shrimp and a bag of their scallops for simplicity.
SHOP THE GALENTINE GATHERING
That’s How to Throw a Simple Outdoor Galentine Gathering with a minimum amount of effort. I have a feeling no one East of the Mississippi will be having any outdoor parties. You can file this one for later or move it indoors. Now let’s pop over and visit our other blogging friends for their Galentine’s inspiration.

Hi Karen
Thank you so much. I had ordered those pillow covers for my former home and never used them. Use what you have in new ways, right?

Cindy, I like to save your posts for Saturdays, when I can take my time and savor every detail! This is an amazing roundup of ladies, there is so much talent and so much beauty in all of these pots! I love them all. As for your party, what can I say, it is as beautiful and amazing as all of the others that you post! I am in love with your courtyard! I have always wanted a courtyard but so far that has not happened so I will simply enjoy yours! Have a beautiful weekend!
Annie Diamond says
Cindy! What a lovely idea to have friends stop over for an outdoor gathering. I love what you are serving, the beautiful drink too! So clever to have a warm basket of chips for each guest. Your table setting is so collected. I never think to put two napkins together. I love the mix of patterns and of course black and red! You are so creative, Cindy! I’ll bet you’re wearing something red and black too with gorgeous accessories!

Fabulous post with recipes! I appreciate that! May just make this for my family; the ceviche sounds so delicious and I like simple too. I often order pomegranate martini’s when we’re out, but haven’t done a pomegranate margarita! Can’t wait to try it. Your table is beautiful! Would love to be one of your friends and invited to the soiree! They are lucky!
Have fun!…and Happy Valentine’s Day!
Nancy says
That should have read, Galentine’s Day! Auto correct!!!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Nancy
I thought I did. Yikes I didn’t see where I misspelled it. I will try to find it. Not surprised, however! Can’t blame it on autocorrect this time.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Nancy
Would love to have you anytime you are out this way!! I am sure I would love a pom martini as well. Happy Valentines Day!
Joan says
Ah, longing to be able to entertain outdoors… will have to wait a few months! But the recipes sound perfect for any time of year!
If you’re looking for post ideas (haha), I’d love to see one on the topic of what to wear to weddings. I have several coming up, and the pickings are so matronly! I’m sure you’d put a fun spin on it! Thanks!

Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Ethel Alderson says
Cindy,
Will the black pots holding to parked withstand wind?
Are they heavy? Will they fad in the sun. Can you tell, I like the pots but know nothing about the material used to make them.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Ethel
My pots are old and are iron. I could not find any iron ones online. I believe the fiberglass should hold up.
Mary Ann Pickett says
OMG…how divine! Happy Valentine’s to one of my BEST Gals! Who knew it started with a Parks and Recreation episode. That was such a great show.
I want to have the ceviche tonight!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Mary Ann
I did not know that is how it started either! I bet Howard could whip up a fabulous ceviche!
Janet says
Thanks for inviting me to join in today and I wish I was sitting there with you IRL!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Janet
Always enjoy having you because you always do a beautiful job. Those roses had me swooning!
Home before dark says
Charming and delicious, too! We have more than four inches of snow. I sent you a pic from my kitchen window. Lucky we can live vicariously through you and your blog.
Ethel Alderson says
Cindy, please do a posting on toparies, other plantings that can be used outside and in a screen porch on any occassiionw. I enjoy everything you write. So enjoy reading your clothing. Wish Birdies come in wide sizes.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Ethel
What a good idea. I will put that on my list. I need to do some research myself anyway! Happy Valentines Day to you as well.
Cindy Hattersley says
Ethel I agree about the Birdies. I do have a widish foot and the starling totally works for me. You might give them a try.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Patricia
You are the third person today that has sent me a funny photo. It is supposed to be 80 here on Wednesday. We shall see if it gets that warm. Your backyard does look pretty draped in snow though!
Gray says
Awesome idea – Thanks for the recipes and thanks for the post! I might just bring it indoors!!! Because, like, 20º….🥶
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Gray
Glad you made it home! I hear the weather is just crazy. Thinking of all my Eastern friends!

LOVE LOVE LOVE everything you did, and celebrating “Galentine’s Day” and letting the ladies in your life that
they matter and are remembered to me is so important.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Katherine
Thank you so much…you are absolutely right!
Juliet says
Gorgeous table in your stunning courtyard! Good friends, margaritas and chocolates … makes for a perfect afternoon. Love your red and black theme and you know how I admire the urn around your umbrella. Definite borrowing that trick this years. Happy Galantine’s Day, Cindy! Cheers! xo
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Juliet
Your table was absolutely gorgeous and I loved that you didn’t follow the red or pink theme. It was much more interesting!
KiM says
Cute table Cindy and fun idea for a quick gathering and catch up with friends. The margarita looks pretty and yummy. ❤️ Fun roundup!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Kim
Thanks Kim! Let’s get together soon!!
Sheri Silver says
Cindy! SOOO jealous that you get to celebrate Valentine’s Day outdoors! Lucky! I love your use of red and black as opposed to the typical pinks! Beautiful as usual and thank you for including me! xo
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Sheri
So you aren’t a pink girl either! As I said to Carolina, I am not big on hearts, pink or too much red. Valentines can be tricky!!
Carolina says
Your table is lovely. So happy that you did not overdo the red and that you included chocolate. Thank you for what appears to be an easy and delicious ceviche recipe.
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Carolina
I agree about the red. I have a hard time with hearts, pink, and red. So your comment is right up my alley!!
Liz pittman says

Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Liz
First of all Welcome! You will find a lot of gray-haired friends here. The best way to find all of the posts is to type gray hair in the search box. I did a search for you
