Our Paso Robles Home Is for Sale: Five Things I’ll Miss Most

Well, it’s official. Our Paso Robles house went on the market Friday, and I have been walking around it all weekend like a woman saying goodbye to an old friend at a train station.

Let me be clear: Steve and I adore this house. We adore this town. If our kids lived down the road, you would have to pry the front door key out of my hands. But they don’t, and at this chapter of life, being close to family wins (as it should). So this week’s Sunday Faves are a little love letter to the house, five spots I’ll miss most and the town that has such a big heart.

1. The Outdoor Spaces

You knew this would be first. One of the things I love most about this house is that there’s an outdoor spot for every hour of the day (and every mood). The back patio looks out over the pool and the gardens, and it’s where we linger on warm evenings, glass of something local in hand, watching the light go gold over the roses.

On a chilly day, though, the courtyard wins. It’s tucked in, sheltered, and noticeably warmer, and with the gas fireplace going, it’s my favorite place for a morning coffee wrapped in a sweater.

Come evening, the gas lanterns flicker on, the patio lights glow overhead, and the whole space feels like a little European café that happens to be ours. Two very different spaces, both completely irresistible, and I’m going to miss choosing between them.

2. Kitchen & Great Room

What makes it special-the island where friends gather over a glass of wine and appetizers.

This is the room where Paso Robles happened for us, all those long dinners with a local Grenache and too much cheese.

The Banquette where we have shared many a cozy dinner for four.

3. The Cozy Den

This is where we land at the end of the day, glass of wine in hand, and Scout has made it abundantly clear he still will occasionally munch on the twig table anc chairs.

4. The Primary Bedroom and Bath

Every house needs a retreat within the retreat, and this is ours. The primary bedroom looks out over the pool and the rose garden, which means I wake up to blooms most of the year and it’s very easy to linger over a second cup of coffee in bed (no judgment, please).

And then there’s the bath. It truly feels like a spa, with a freestanding tub made for long, lazy soaks and a walk-in shower with two showerheads (a small luxury Steve and I will not be giving up easily). My interior designer heart is still very pleased with how this room came together.

5. The Town Itself

Not technically in the house, but impossible to separate from it. I’m convinced Paso Robles is the friendliest town on earth. People have landed here from all over the place, and somehow everyone arrives already ready to say hello. Our neighborhood is no exception. It’s filled with genuinely friendly people, the kind who wave from the driveway, stop to chat on a walk with Scout, and show up when you need them. This community welcomed us with open arms, and that’s the hardest part to pack. If you love food and wine and are looking for a place to land, you will love it here.

If you or someone you know has been dreaming of wine country living, you can see the full listing here:. Tell them it comes with excellent roses and a lot of love already baked in.

And now, onward. Steve and I are house hunting closer to family (more on that adventure soon). You can find the full listing of our home here. If you love the idea of living in a small town with world class wine and food, you will love Paso. It is our hope that someone will enjoy this home and community as much as we have.

Bonus! This weeks outfits of the week. I splurged on this absolutely incredible Pierre Louis Mascia scarf that looks like a vintage tapestry and this wonderful Toast sweater. All linked below graphic. The equally fabulous Luxe for Less look has a wonderful Zara scarf with gap jeans and a wonderful bag from TJ Maxx.

  1. Dear Cindy,
Your home is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. The endless love that you and Steve put into every single detail shows in each and every room.
The community will deeply miss the presence of two very special people.
Family is the best, it’s time. I love Sonoma, my home town is SF and Marin county. I used to spend time in the wine country. You both will fit in beautifully. To find a home is the challenging part.
Bittersweet on so many levels Cindy.

  2. Hi Cindy,
Your home is so relaxing and just beautiful!! I am going to plant some David Austin roses next year those beautiful golden yellow ones. Wishing you every happiness!

  3. Cindy I will so miss your pictures of the area around Paso Robles!! It used to be a town that you went through on the way to the beach areas and now has developed over many years to a spectacular destination as you go through the countryside. Wherever you land you will make it work and beautiful. Somehow I have connected and reminisced about Morro Bay, Caucus, Paso and San Luis Obispo through your comments since I subscribed. My grandparents inherited a very rough cabin on Highway I out of Morro Bay toward Cayucus. Later, when the road got so busy grandpa bought a lot above the beach across the road where we enjoyed many years at ‘ the new place’. Take care and I look forward to your next adventures and what is suggested for wardrobes, reading, cooking, and other topics.

  4. Hi Cindy
Seems like deja vu all over again. We still miss that place!
Best wishes for the next chapter

    1. Hi Mark & Elizabeth!

We have loved every minute here! We are moving for the same reason as you to be closer to family.

  5. You really can feel the love in this home, Cindy. It’s gorgeous and will make another family very happy.

  6. You and Steve have put so much thought, effort and love into that house. But I understand the pull toward family.
Paso is one of our favorite areas in CA. We have stayed everywhere from Mendocino in the north to Santa Barbara in the south, most places multiple stays. Paso has been 3 or 4 stays. We love the wineries there, and all the agriculture. In places like Napa, visitors can forget that making wine is essentially an agricultural endeavor.

  7. Dear Cindy. Your Paso home is beautiful and abundant with creativity, looking forward to being inspired when you and Steve find your new nest! Happy Sunday. Anna

  8. Your realtor has done a great job with photos. I particularly like the one taken from the hill behind you (I think I know from whose backyard!) at night. Very enticing! I hope you have an easy time finding a buyer so you don’t have to have lots of people traipsing thru, especially the “looky loos”. But BOO HOO, sorry you’re leaving the area.
