My New Courtyard Design and Sources

I am working on the charming courtyard at our new home. I just love the space and have made it my goal to get it done before we move in so we can enjoy the beautiful weather. I have been on the hunt for furniture and decor items for our new space. Let’s take a look at My New Courtyard Design and Sources.

I love the entrance to the house. When you walk in there is a little area on the left that I am working on. We have a post coming up in July. Hopefully, it will all be complete by then.

Here is the beautiful courtyard at night.

Here is the inspiration board for the new space. You know my M.O. I like to have a mix of new and old, and I don’t want everything to match. I love a collected look. I think it makes the design interesting and

personal.

The courtyard is a pretty large space, so there will be multiple areas to sit and enjoy. Let’s start with the fireplace area. We purchased some vintage Portuguese baskets and large galvanized (what will be planters) from one of our favorite local dealers Atelier de Campagne. These vintage items set the stage for the plan. The clock is from Pottery Barn.

In front of the fireplace will be the Palmetto Wicker Sofa from Pottery Barn on sale, and the Willow Wicker Chairs from Ballard Designs. FYI I have the Suzanne Kasler Harbor Collection from Ballard that I will be using in the pool area, and I am extremely impressed with the quality and price point when compared to similar options. The side table is the Fernando Accent Table is from Crate and Barrel. The sofa will be in front of the fireplace and the two sets of chairs and a side table on either side. The coffee table is from Dovetail but I was not able to find it online anywhere. The brown and white pillows are from Krinto on Etsy but are not indoor outdoor. I have not had any luck finding similar yet in an indoor-outdoor fabric. The black pillows are from California Living on Etsy and are indoor outdoor.

We will be using our current round dining room table under the eaves with our chairs that we purchased from World Market last year. You can find the pillows on Etsy here.

The former owners purchased this fountain in France and I love the potential this little area has. Pillows are from Etsy here. The vintage galvanized bathtubs are from Patine. They are filled with espaliered apples. You can see how we used them in our current garden, in the post Before and After Backyard Transformation here.

That is my basic plan to address this area. We hope to make this space comfortable and collected. This is an area we will be living in. Much of the rest we will tweak as we go. So much of the home and gardens are so good. We will just do some small tweaks to make it our own over time. Hi Bonnie

We looked for at least ten years…so love the area but the architecture…well not so great. We feel so lucky to have found this place. Let’s meet up when you come to Paso next

Your courtyard is warm and inviting. I’m sure when you move in you will be spending many hours enjoying. The look you created is perfect. The fountain has such character.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katherine

I hope you too can come visit sometime. I would so love meeting you

  6. Gray says

Cindy! I love what you’re doing. It’s going to be so wonderful. It feels like a vacation property – what a great place to have at this time of life. I’m JELLYYYYYYY!!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Gray

Hopefully you can come visit or we can meet in Paso. I think it is right for us in this stage of life

I feel like I am watching your ideas come to life. What a fabulous courtyard! BTW, after squirrels are the stuffing from my upholstered lawn chairs , buying new cushions were $250 each from the manufacturer. I ended it having a small ma and pa company recover the cushions for $50 each. So you may find a Sunbrella fabric in white. Also, I think you love pink in your garden!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marcia
The base of all my outdoor furniture is sunbrella canvas in white. I work from there! You are so right about having locals do the cushions they are always cheaper and better!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi K

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet

This little project is fun. The rest will wait until we get moved in and have a better feel for the house!!

  9. Jan Correll says

I love your ideas reflected in your design board. And you have inspired me to do the same for our new home. We have two front porches and a backyard, which we have not had in forever. In fact, I have an idea for you! Sending an email soon.

  10. Juliet says

How exciting, Cindy! Soon you’ll be sipping wine in front of the fire in your beautiful, new courtyard. Your design is perfection, of course. I can’t wait to see it come to life. Very soon! xo

I love seeing how you will put things together to make an already beautiful space even more inviting. Just one comment about the clock above the fireplace – I have always read and heard from designers that clocks are not necessarily a great accessory in a place that is meant to encourage relaxing without time schedules. Maybe a great architectural piece in that area to encourage that sense of relaxing without time constraints. Just a thought. I know your space will be lovely!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Pat

Good comment about the clock, but no worries it is faux!! It doesn’t move! Maybe that will drive people crazy as well. I have plenty of architectural pieces to try as well!

  12. Maddie says

I purchased the Palmetto sofa last summer, but I have had the Palmetto lounge chairs for about 10 years. They have been on an uncovered patio and they look as good as when I bought them. I do cover the cushions and just recently bought new slip covers for them. The chair and sofa are comfortable enough to nap on and I couldn’t recommend them more highly. Thanks for the wonderful courtyard ideas. I just recently purchased a condo with a large enclosed courtyard entry that I will be updating before I move in.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Maddie

Thank you so much for weighing in. I am sure you know if you have been reading long, I am a researcher. I looked hard and long for a sofa that wasn’t ridiculously priced and had good reviews!

  13. Wren says

What an exciting time for you! I know you will work your Cindy Magic on the gardens and house.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

I am working on it! I need to get it together for a girlfriends lunch!!
