The barn at Sioux Monti, is a hidden gem with historic charm on a once-working farm. and the natural beauty of the scenic views of the surrounding farms, holds cherished personal memories for me—I spent countless hours playing in the haymow with my cousins, creating moments I treasure to this day. The “name Sioux-Monti is a tribute to two souls (my aunt and uncle) who met during World War II—a young soldier from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and an army nurse from Monticello, Indiana. They fell in love, built their lives on a little farm, and the name sweetly honors both their roots and the life they worked so hard to create together. Today, this farm estate remains in the family, passed down through five generations.”

In 2018, JT (my much loved cousin Janet’s son) and Hannah were married on the family property. Hannah states “that night felt like pure magic—the kind of effortless, joy-filled hospitality we now love creating for others. Since then, our love for hospitality has only deepened. What a beautiful venue, and I enjoyed the family story behind and your childhood fond memories. Great outfit ideas for the barn wedding too!

A similar venue, “The Territory Ballroom” can be found in the historic town of Council Grove in the Flint Hills of Kansas just south of Manhattan. It is deep in the heart of Kaw and Pottawatomie Indian tribe country situated along the Santa Fe Trail. This venue is a combination bed and breakfast and co-working site catering specifically to rural weddings and community events. Check it out if you would enjoy a similar experience to Souix-Monti venue.

My son just got married last Saturday at a Ranch in La Quinta, CA. A boho/rustic theme. Wore my ivory Tecova western booties and they were perfect as well as comfy!

If I recall from many years past, you shared JT and Hannah’s wedding pictures that you attended at The Barn right?
They sound like an incredible team and what they have built and opened this to the most treasured memories of a lifetime for others. Their hospitality sounds like they have hearts of gold and love serving.

One of my dear friends is from Indiana. I met her at a clothing and jewelry trade show we were working. Jan Walker was a (school teacher back in Indiana) I walked up to her and said hi, and we became friends ever since. She is exactly how you described how JT and Hannah are, salt of the earth types. You would love Jan, an incredible interior designer. Now, retired.

What a setting!! Gorgeous!

We have a ranch in central Texas; we hosted a lovely country wedding on a hill in our hay field with a huge tent reception in another field. Our guests loved it; we split our time between Houston and there. I can see our place becoming this; we have a wonderful old house made by the WPA workers under the Roosevelt administration that would make a great bride’s cottage.
