Manly Goods for the Man in your Life

There are two camps when it comes to Valentines Day.  One considers it a day of love and romance and the other a day they would rather forget.  Which camp are you in? Here is a link to a funny quiz if you aren’t sure! To many, it is an over-commercialized non-holiday.  Chances are even if you feel that way you are going to want to pick up something for that special person in your life. Here are my suggestions for some manly goods for the man in your life.

Manly Goods for the Man in Your Life

If your significant other happens to be a wine enthusiast this is the list for you. We could not survive without a rabbit wine opener (especially me). The Wine Spectator is the holy grail to any wine lover.  My husband is crazy over the Thindulgent Dark Chocolate Bark.  Low in calories and high in health (and it goes great with red wine).  Some great cheese to accompany that favorite bottle of wine is always a good idea. Monogrammed wine glasses are a fun touch especially if you have a bar cart or bar that is visible. The Vinturi Aerator is a favorite of my husbands. The Wine Enthusiast is another great publication and not as pricey as the Spectator. We love these Rustic Bakery Flatbreads.  They have several different flavors and they are all great.

How about pampering your Valentine with a massage from a local masseuse, a romantic home-cooked dinner, dinner at his favorite restaurant or some Manly goods that pamper. I discovered the Duke Cannon line locally at Gifts on the Go in Salinas.  My husband really likes the line. The Tom Ford Oud Wood cologne is always a favorite on any list but very pricey.  Why not try a travel size if you think your Valentine might like it.  Tatine candles are my current fav and “Love that Burns” is a great option for Valentines Day.

The last thing we ladies would like for Valentines Day are gadgets but what guy doesn’t love a gadget?

Here are a few of my husband’s favs and some that are on his list. If he doesn’t already have an echo dot he probably wants one.  The jackery portable phone charger is highly rated and my husband desperately needs one. The Sonos speakers are a little pricier but if you don’t have a built-in speaker system in your house or an outdated one like ours, these are a great option. I got these for my husband for Christmas. The photostick is price friendly and comes with three different storage capacities. Another splurge item is the Bose blue tooth headphones.  If your husband’s hearing is going South you will appreciate these as well. Are you constantly searching for matches or throwing away those worthless portable lighters.  My son got this one for my husband and he loves it.

I hope this list of Manly Goods for the Man in your life will give you a little help on Valentines Day. Hopefully, the man in your life won’t gift you any of these items. Mine has been known to do that from time to time.

I agree with all who have learned that Valentine’s day—like Mother’s Day and New Year’s Eve—are a giant wasteland in restaurants. This year will be our 44th anniversary.By now, Valentine’s Day will go like this: I’ll cook some of his special foods, we’ll splurge on a big red followed with something chocolate and a cognac by the fireplace. Works for me! As for gifts, we buy what we want when we want (which I consider a luxury at this stage of our life) and make each day count.

Well your comment from Lynn above says it all for me almost verbatim. Who wants to go out of Valentines Day, spend way too much, get bad service, bad food from an overworked kitchen, and share the evening with a bunch of strangers? I do like to be pampered occasionally but I always tell my husband to postpone Valentines Day a day or two and then take me out. On Valentines Day we stay home and I pamper him, no matter how many years we’ve been married.

I agree Celia! Who wouldn’t want one of your fabulous meals over restaurant fare anyway!

    Cindy,

My eyes sure lit-up when I saw the “Hair Thick” (for bald crown only!) shampoo. Now Judy has no excuse for what to get me for V-Day!

Hey Old Friend you still have a pretty darn good head of hair and you both still look like youngsters! So happy to hear you chime in. I miss your humor!

I just read to Howard the funny cards in your post. I said “How about if we get each other the Sonos?” Which would really be mostly for me. We usually don’t go crazy after 34 years 🙂

    HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

This is how Valentine’s Day goes when you are older and have been married forever:
Him: Did you want to go to the special dinner at the Club?
Side note: (Cost of Several hundred dollars)
Me: Oh, please, NO. The place will be packed, the noise will be incredible, the service slow, the kitchen overwhelmed, and most of the women will go ALL OUT and wear the ENTIRE bottle of perfume because their sense of smell is shot. Please, please please can we stay home? I will cook your favorite dinner! (And I hate to cook!)
Wishing everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!!!

We need to meet you are my kinda girl! I belly laughed when I read this. The cologne comment oh boy so true…I have given up cologne for that very reason. How about wine tasting when someone has too much cologne on…THE WORST!! Please keep sharing we love your humor!

I play the St. Valentine’s Day game. Neither Mr. B. or I consider it a worthwhile holiday, we exchange cards and enjoy a nice meal at home. He usually buys me See’s candy, a favorite of mine. I select a book or a small electronic gadget.
Same goes for New Year’s Eve. We love our small dinner party we enjoy with dear friends each year, but huge parties with a lot of people are not our idea of a fun evening. 🙂
    xo,
    Karen

Karen you are right on. My sentiments exactly. Please no candy for me though, especially carmels. I might eat the whole box!
