John Derian’s Effortlessly Imperfect Collected Style and More

John Derian’s enchanting style is a masterful blend of old-world charm and effortless eclecticism. His aesthetic is deeply rooted in history, yet it feels fresh and inviting, never overly precious, and filled with soul. With a keen eye for the beauty of imperfection, he layers antique textiles, furniture, and his signature pieces to create spaces that tell his story. He shares homes in Provincetown and New York City with his partner photographer Steven Kent Johnson who has captured these beautiful vignettes. Today I am joining my pals Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday faves. Let’s chat about John Derian’s Effortlessly Imperfect Collected Style and More.

John Derian’s Effortlessly Imperfect Collected Style and More

Only John Derian would dare combine a disparate group of elements effortlessly blurring the line between nature and art in the fireplace vignette.

The living room feels effortlessly lived in with it’s mix of warm woods, vintage books, well-loved textiles, and curated art.

John Derian’s enchanting oversized floral arrangements are wild, unstructured masterpieces.

I love the curated assemblage of antique and vintage prints in timeworn frames in this bedroom gallery wall.

Poke Bowls With Costco Ahi

poke bowl

Our firends invited us over to dinner the other night for Poke Bowl’s with Costco Ahi. I was amazed how fresh the Ahi was, so we made them last night for ourselves. I did not use a recipe, but this rendition from What Gaby’s cooking is a good base recipe. I picked up seaweed salad from Pier 46, the rest of the ingredients are from Trader Joe’s. Next time I would add pickled ginger. I topped ours with sriracha mayo. Add sriracha to mayonaise to taste and drizzle on top. FYI there is enough Ahieto feed a crowd. Tonight we are grilling the ahi and having Nicoise Salad!

Pop Up with Ernst Grace at Hayley and Co

Hey Locals I am going to be at Hayley and Co with my friend Kelsey from Ernst and Grace for a pop up next Sunday February 16th from 12-3. I will be bringing barely worn (or not at all), and vintage clothes and accessories from my closet. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles Fire Victims. Kelsey will be offering some of her fabulous resale items and Hayley and Co will have my favorite Kut from the Kloth jeans and more. Come share some nibbles and a glass of Epoch Rose. I would love to meet you!

Outfits of the Week

I am loving the fabulous leopard pants from Sezanne (two different styles are linked) and these fabulous poplin shirts from JNBY. I continue to be obsessed with the Just Shorty bags as well. I can’t decide which to order!!

  1. Hi, Cindy,
So enjoy your blog! Even though I live on the Gulf of MEXICO in SW Florida, there are so many things I appreciate and love. John Derian puts AD to shame…love his look. If you have any HOT Florida suggestions, let me know. Truly I live in sandals and shorts almost 11 months out of the year.
Thank you for creating a site that makes all women feel fabulous!!

  2. Cindy! You must come visit me and we will go to John derian’s shops! So much to see! At Christmas time, there’s a line to get inside… it’s that good!

  3. Thank you so much for your speedy answer to my question about the shoes. I appreciate your help and I learned something new about viewing your blog. So helpful and I so look forward to viewing your blog every time it is sent !!! You are so very talented and I appreciate your willingness to share those talents with so many people.

  4. Cindy I honestly had not hear of Mr. Darian but his style reminds me of a book ages ago by one of the Carter sisters. It was my introduction to vintage everything and struck a cord. You could make things found in what was then called junk shops cool. Picture someone leaving a beautiful mirror on the curb because they were moving and couldn’t fit it into their VW van. I asked if I could have it and have had it since the 60s…carted from place to place over all these years. I am not sure about the big glass container on a mantel that was shown; this would seem unsafe unless you had no pets or children. Also the very tall vases..but his combinations are nice. Thank you and take care, Donnie

    1. Hi Donnie

Don’t you love a great find?!! I could put a glass container on my mantel because it is tall. I can barely reach it myself. I am not sure about Johns mantel.

  5. Hi Cindy,
I bought a gorgeous John Derian brooch/pin just before Christmas that was a Christmas stocking present to myself, an apple tree made up of crystals and from a Czech factory that had a lovely detailed brown ridged bark before this ballooning of red and green color. Quite extraordinary. Loved wearing it too. I had no idea he made brooches! I love his work and always get inspiration.
Love the ahi idea thank you. Happy week!

  6. Love John Derian! Sometimes Target features his products..would love one day to visit his NY store!

    1. Hi Cheryl

I had some of his melamine plates at our lake house which we sold furnished. I wish I had stolen them!

    1. Hi Linda

He is so inspiring isn’t he? I am fascinated by how his creative mind works.

  7. Some of the John Darian rather overwhelms me but I love his floral arrangements. Your ahi idea is fantastic. Sometimes in Hawaii we would buy the ready-made poke. Is that the form you bought it in or just as raw ahi? Hope to be there next Sunday. Could I bring those 2 Mersea tops to donate? I still am not loving them.

    1. Hi Wren

The Ahi is just raw. We added the sauces etc, but it was really good. Tonight we will have grilled Ahi!! I can ask Kelsey if you can bring those two Mersea sweaters. She will be marking everything this week. I am sure she won’t mind.

  8. I have long been a John Derian fan.
Love the outfit today – I have that trench and it’s great. A classic.

  9. Wow…thanks for the Costco ahi tip. Tommy is having friends over here and they can EAT. Looks delicious.
I love John Derian…and am heading over to read about garden trends!
