The Frank & Eileen Pieces Worth Every Penny After 60

There are brands I’ve tried. And then there are brands I keep going back to, season after season, until they’ve quietly become the backbone of my wardrobe. Frank & Eileen is firmly in the second category. This is not a sponsored post. These are the clothes that I live in

I’ve been wearing Frank & Eileen for several years now, and what started with one button-up shirt has turned into a genuine love affair with almost everything they make. These are the clothes I live in. If you haven’t discovered this brand yet , or you’ve been curious but hesitant about the price (I get that). Let me make the case for CPW (cost per wear).

What Makes Frank & Eileen Different

Frank & Eileen is a certified woman-owned U.S. fashion brand founded by Audrey McLoghlin, a former engineer whose Irish grandparents inspired her obsession with quality fabrics and precise construction. (Former engineer. It shows.) The brand holds itself to high standards across the board from quality garments, to thoughtful sourcing, and a genuine commitment to environmental performance that earned them certified B corporation status.

This is a slow fashion brand in the truest sense. They’re not producing trend-chasing pieces that fall apart after six months. They’re making wardrobe staples built to last ,which, if you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know is exactly the kind of thing I want to put in my Collected Wardrobe.

The fabrics come from some of the finest mills in the world, and the construction details,the button placement, the raw hems, the unfinished edges that somehow look completely intentiona, are the kind of thing you notice after you’ve owned the piece for a while and realize it still looks as good as the day it arrived.

The Pieces I Actually Wear

Let me walk you through my honest favorites. I am not a fan of every single piece.

The Eileen Button-Up Shirt

This is where most people start, and for good reason. The Eileen shirt is one of their best sellers, and it earns that status. I have it in multiple colors denim black, tan and both white versions. When something fits this well and holds its shape this reliably, you buy backups. The relaxed fit is the key. It’s not oversized-sloppy; it’s that perfect California ease that works over jeans, tucked into wide leg trousers, or thrown over a tank when you’re running out the door.

I wear a version of mine every week. They are that good.

The Patrick Shirt

If the Eileen is the classic, the Patrick is the one with a little more personality. The cut is slightly more relaxed through the body, it has an easy, almost boyfriend quality that somehow still looks put-together. The terry is my go to year round.

The vintage jersey version (actually Patty) is great for summer. It’s become one of my everyday wear pieces (love the sleeve length) . It’s the shirt I reach for when I want to look like I tried without actually trying very hard (which is absolutely true). At this point in life, that’s the whole game.

The Rory Dress and the Emma Dress

I was slower to come to the dresses, but the Rory converted me. Easy, unfussy, the kind of piece that reads as pulled-together without requiring any effort. I own it in white and the faded denim. FYI my favorite summer sneaks are on super sale.

The Emma ( a recent acquisiition) has a slightly different silhouette a little more structured through the bodice (read Patrick in a dress) and it’s the one I reach for when I want to look like I made a real decision about what to wear without actually agonizing over it. Both work beautifully for spending time outdoors in sunny California, and both travel exceptionally well, which matters more to me every year. I also am coveting the Meghan which has a more relaxed shape (one size fits all). This is a new fave and not quite as pricey as some of the other F&E items. I am wearing a small.

The Grace dress (which I love but is an awkward fit on me). I am long waisted but have short legs. This dress would be great for a petite who is shorter waisted, and it is on sale for $179.40 (down from $598)

The Galway and the Barrel Jean

I’ve been wearing the Galway for years, and it remains one of my most-reached-for pieces especially in the summer. What makes it work is that the wide leg is calibrated just right. It’s not the exaggerated, fashion-forward wide leg that can feel overpowering on a smaller frame. It has enough ease to look modern and relaxed without swamping you. The cropped length is the other thing that sets it apart: it hits at just the right point to be flattering, and it makes the Galway genuinely workable for petites in a way that most wide-leg jeans don’t . I own the white and the 1964 Wash in size 27.

The Barrel is a different animal ,more relaxed through the hip and thigh with a gentle taper, and it fills a different spot in the rotation. Between the two, most denim situations are covered.

The Montecito, the Monterey, and the Monterey Pointelle

These are the sweaters I reach for when the California evenings turn cool, which, as anyone who lives here knows, can happen even in July. The Montecito (I wear a small) is the workhorse: easy, soft, the kind of layer that makes any outfit feel finished. I wore it all over France.

The Monterey Pointelle is the one with personality, and a lighter feel.

The Wexford Linen and the Catherine Terry Pant

I’ve become increasingly devoted to a great pant and these two earn their place. The Wexford linen is everything a California summer pant should be, lightweight, casual with enough structure to look intentional. Paired with a tucked-in Eileen shirt, it’s a complete outfit.

The Catherine terry is the comfortable-but-chic equation solved: the fabric has a softness that reads casual, but the cut keeps it from tipping into loungewear territory. I wear it constantly with the Patrick in terry.I own it in multiple colors. It no longer comes in this length but you can trim them yourself as they have a raw hem. It is my weekday and summer travel uniform.

The Tuscany Travel Set

This is the piece that made me rethink what I pack. The Tuscany travel set is exactly what it promises, two pieces that work together or apart. I have styled mine multiple ways. There’s something satisfying about having two pieces that can stand alone or work with practically anything else you own. It is linen but it can be handwashed, stretched and hung to dry. A Word on Price

Frank & Eileen is not inexpensive. I won’t pretend otherwise. But I’ve been thinking about price-per-wear more and more over the last year, and by that measure, these are some of the best investments in my closet. A piece I reach for twice a week for three years costs far less than three cheaper pieces that wear out and get donated.

This is the slow fashion argument. Certified B corporation status means the brand is accountable for its environmental impact and its business practices in ways that most fashion companies simply aren’t. When I spend money here, I feel good about where it’s going.
