Inspiring Natural Front Door Decor Ideas to Embrace the Spirit of Spring

As the cold winter months start to fade away and the warmer days of spring approach, it’s time to start thinking about sprucing up your home’s exterior. What better place to start than with your front door? Your front door is the first welcome to your home, so it should say something about you. Embracing the spirit of spring with a wreath you diy can add a touch of warmth, freshness, and your own personality. Today I am joining a group of blogging friends to welcome spring. Let’s chat about Inspiring Natural Front Door Decor Ideas to Embrace the Spirit of Spring.

Inspiring Natural Front Door Decor Ideas to Embrace the Spirit of Spring

We don’t have a traditional front porch. Our home has a gate that enters our cozy courtyard. Beyond that is the entry to our home (more on that below). I love to garden, so I chose a garden theme for my spring door decor.

front gate wreath with garden tools and pots

I started with a simple grapevine wreath and added vintage children’s garden tools I found on ebay. You could use any kind or new or vintage gardening tools for a similar effect.

Steve screwed the tools together, and I wired them to the wreath in the four corners. I glued the clay pots to the handles of the tools and then layered different mosses around the pots. I used live succuents for the picture, but I would recommend using faux and gluing them with a glue gun to the pots

Cindy Hattersley's courtyard entry

Inside the courtyard are two doors that enter our house. I don’t have a lot of spring decorations. I am not a personal fan of holiday decorations that can only be enjoyed for a short holiday season. An easter wreath in pastel hues wouldn’t be very complimentary to this house, so I aimed for a more natural look that would last through the summer and compliment the house.

This moss wreath on Terrain was my inspiration. I thought with a price tag of $150 I could make it for much less. The wreath on the left is from Terrain. The wreath on the right is the one I constructed.

I purchased two straw wreaths from my local Michaels ,a bag of each kind of moss, and a package of glue sticks. I was able to make the wreath for less than half the Terrain price.

The wreaths now create a subtle focal point when guests enter the doors, and add a little cheer. I decided not to add any ribbon. I like the simple organic look.

The colors in the wreath reflect the colors, layers and texture of the house. The stone, the greenery, baskets, planters, and throw pillows in the courtyard are in multiple hues of green, brown and black.

You are so creative. I like your interpretation of the moss wreath better than the one for $150. There are some wonderful ideas in this post and I’m ready for honest to goodness spring to arrive, so thank you.

What fabulous wreaths you created and Steve too. They are both creative, look perfect for your home. I think it’s so special that you worked on the wreath together. You make the best team.

    1. Hi Katherine

Thank you, he usually doesn’t mind getting involved as long as it isn’t too involved!!

  4. Love both your ideas! I will be copying the straw wreaths for my front doors, like that I can use clear until fall.

  5. I love the idea of adding children’s garden tools. They were a lucky find. I’m tucking that idea away in case I find some vintage ones. On the hunt!
I’m recovering from a hip replacement so spring decorating will have to wait a couple more weeks. I love changing out my front porch with the seasons.

    1. Hi Joanna

As you know I have had both hips replaced. You will be back to your old tricks in no time!

  6. Your wreaths are wonderful – love the organic vibe. I’m going crazy living in an apartment while our house is being built – can’t wait to be able to craft and decorate again!!

  7. Thank you for publishing the slow cooker posole recipe. My husband, the cook, is always on the lookout for posole recipes to try. He did make it, including the sides. It was delicious. There was plenty leftover, and after a stay in the freezer, we’ll have again.

    1. Hi Theresa

Isn’t it delicious and so simple! I am lazier in my old age with weekday cooking for two! I like to make something I can get more than one meal out of.

  8. Hi Cindy,
Everything is beautiful, like a resort! You have the touch and the eye.
I’m excited to change things out around here when I get my energy back
    Xo Heidi

    1. Hi Heidi

I sure hope you are feeling better! Somehow Steve and I have escaped covid! I am masking up on the plane!

  9. Cindy, I love all of your wreaths! Especially the one on the front door with the little pots and children yard implements.

  10. I really like the moss wreath that you made. I think I will try it this spring. Thank you for all the ideas you have on fashion, home and recipes!

  11. Gosh , you are talented, Cindy ! You have inspired me to buy a glue gun! Always been rather wary of them…thinking I’d glue my fingers together or something ! I have a rectangular panel of mosses and faux ferns made locally that is so lovely above the little roll top tub in the ensuite. Has to be handled with care. ..and stored safely. I will try scouting out the crafts store sometime and try a similar project.
Happy entry into spring. I think we all could use better weather about now. Consistent sun and warmth .

    1. Hi Cath

It is a very simple project. Wearing gloves helps, but I usually forget to do it!

  12. Cindy,
Just wondering if you have any recommendations for new patio furniture cushions and umbrellas?
    Thanks very much!

    1. Hi Cindy

Yes Patio Lane is the best! I love Midtown Umbrellas. I am going to contact them and see if they will offer you all a discount again this year.

  13. Your wreath’s are always so creative! I’m looking forward to trying my own.

  14. I love the moss wreath! I have tried that before and the birds went nuts with it! I think yours is safer, based on it’s protected location. It’s so pretty and probably will last a couple of seasons! I’m like you – I like to use faux and real together when possible. Happy Spring from VA!

    1. Hi Gray

The birds could still get it if they really want to, but it is more protected. I had a moss wreath for years at the lake, and then I used it in our fixer upper as well. They would grab a piece or two, but I finally recycled it only because it was just too old!!

  15. So gorgeous and inspiring! I’m definitely going to make the moss wreath with moss I have left from a Midnight in the Garden event I recently produced. Love it! Thanks, Cindy!

    1. Hi Andrea

I had a ton of moss myself. I bought some but didn’t use any of it! It’s a fun project! Would love to hear more about your Midnight in The Garden event. That sounds like so much fun!

    1. Hi Nancy

Hooray for Spring! I can’t wait! Thank you so much Nancy for joining us your post was filled with stylish, helpful inspiration!

  16. Cindy, your wreath with the garden tools is very creative. It would be cute on my garden house.
You asked places I enjoy in Arroyo Grande. We can walk to The AG Village from our house and The Village is from the late 1800’s. It is charming, highly decorated for different seasons, good restaurants, wine tasting , craft beer and live music. Some of my favorites restaurants are Rooster Creek, Masons, The Deli and Humdinger. Come by our house and have a glass of wine? Greer

    1. Hi Greer

I loved this wreath on my garden gate. It would be perfect on a garden shed!

  17. I love the organic looking moss wreaths…so pretty with your shutters and doors.

And your patio looks so fresh and clean! We need to get to work on ours…before you and Steve get here. 🙂

Thanks for organizing this. I always love how things feel after our projects like this.
