Winter in the Garden and a Beautiful Mountain Home
There are no words to express the sense of sadness and loss we all are feeling for our fellow Californians.I am sharing where you can help victims of the fire below. Let’s take a moment and enjoy a little beauty and calm from the storm, in Winter in the Garden and a Beautiful Mountain Home.
I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday favorites.
Winter in the Garden and a Beautiful Mountain Home
Winter in the Garden

Tomorrow we are going to start cutting back all of the roses for winter, so I thought I would share a peek before all is bare. My brother in law makes the beautiful copper trellises and carries them in his Etsy shop here.
Beautiful Mountain Home Designed by Beth Meyer

I love everything about this beautiful home in Highlands North Carolina designed by Beth Meyer. You can see Beth’s entire portfolio here. You can also read more about the home featured in Atlanta Homes Magazine here. The photos are by Rustic White Photography. The beams and stonework have my heart and I love how the interior decor echo’s the outside landscape.
Outfit of the Week
In my survey results you asked for more one of a kind outfit options, and more classic options. If you haven’t filled out the survey you can do so here. Next Sunday we can chat about the results. I am loving the Quince boxy cashmere sweater (on order) and their crossbody strap.

The jeans are my favorites from Kut from the Kloth, the Dooney handbag is on sale, as well as the Birdies (great for Spring). The white shirt is from J Crew, and the accessories (I own all of them!) are from Machete.

I have featured the cowboy boots, and chambray shirt before, but I thought you might have fun with the Kantha jacket and the kilim bag from Etsy.

Darling Mary from Life at Bella Terra
Do you follow Mary from Life at Bella Terra? Mary lives, gardens, and paints at her beautiful historic home in Phoenix. I try to catch up with Mary when I can because I feel we are “kindred spirits” so to speak. Mary is a multi-talented gal that I think you would enjoy getting to know.

Mary sent me this lovely painting of a bouquet of my roses from my former Chualar garden. It looks lovely wherever I place it. I just have to get my house back in order (after taking down all the Christmas decor) to find the perfect spot for it. I would love to put it on my coffee table, but Scout still thinks anything on the coffee table that isn’t ANCHORED is fair game. Thank you so much Mary. That vase was a favorite that got knocked off and broken last year. I would love to find a replacement. It was the perfect size and shape for rosees.
Where to Help Victims of the LA Fires
If you can donate please do. There are so many worthwhile organizations that have stepped up to help. I have personally donated to the Pasadena Humane Society and World Central Kitchen.

Thank you so much for reading Winter in the Garden and a Beautiful Mountain Home. If you would like to catch up on and Sunday favorites you may have missed you can find them here. I am always so grateful for all of you! Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their faves.

Hi Cindy,
I was born and raised in CA, and I honestly can’t remember seeing anything as devastating as the series of fires going on now. I hope and pray these displaced people can get help and find their way back “home”.
Thank you for the reference to Mary’s blog. I’ve subscribed.
The painting Mary sent you is wonderful. It will look so nice in your home.
Karen B.
Hi Karen
I am glad you are out of harms way. The devastation is heart breaking. My heart goes out to everyone impacted. I feel like everyone knows someone who has lost their home. I am glad you subscribed to Mary’s blog. I certainly enjoy it.
Thank you, Cindy, for the information on where to donate to help in a small way with the fires. I especially appreciate the Pasenda Humane Society as I would not have known about that. I looked at their website and they have taken in over 400 pets! I can’t even take in the totality of the whole tragedy.
Hi Betty Lou
The outpouring of support the Humane Society is getting is heartworming isn’t it? We Americans come together in a time of crisis don’t we? I only wish that”coming together” could be more permanent.
Cindy, we are all praying for those affected by the fires. Heartbreaking. Love your outfits of the week as I get inspiration from them. And that mountain cabin~our cabin needs an update…now the wheels are turning. Thank you so much for your sweet words about my painting. Your roses were the perfect inspiration and I do love the twig stand. Thanks for sharing the amazon link! We are on the tail end of storing all the holiday decor and hopefully all will be completed tomorrow.
I, too, feel like we are kindred spirits and I certainly get the puppy stage. Our Finn, will be a year on Wednesday but he does love shoes and sunglasses, eye glasses and destroys them within minutes. He hasn’t eaten any of my paintings yet!
I am so glad your pooch hasn’t eaten any of your paintings yet!!
Terrible fires, Cindy and horrendous irony that its not even winter.
As we bake in a hot summer, our hearts go out to California, knowing that at any moment something will explode here. We used to say Roll On Winter. Now thanks to climate change, it makes no difference. We’ve already had massive fires in Western Australia and the Grampians in Victoria this summer and we know its only a question of time for us in Tasmania.
Take care yourself and know that our thoughts are with California.
Hi Prue
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I know Australia has suffered with fires as well.
It is so sad about the fires just like here with the NC flooding. Glad you’re not near fires. Love all the outfits you show. Laura I think was asking about your branch easel displaying Mary’s rose painting.
Hi Nancy
Well you are in luck they have them here https://amzn.to/3DSLhDP
I have had mine for years!!
Hi Cindy,
I hear you so much about the horrific fire has caused in Southern California. It’s unthinkable that 16 people have lost their lives and hundreds have lost their homes. The courage and heroism of the first responders, police, firefighters and all the people that helped are hero’s.
You have a beautiful garden. I bet it’s a place that you find happiness getting lost in nature.
Hi Katherine
I couldn’t agree with you more on all counts. What a tragedy…so thankful for the first responders!
Cindy! I love everything you e shared today. I had no idea your brother in law created your beautiful trellis! I love it!
And the painting from Mary! She’s so talented!
Xx
Hi Annie
Isn’t the painting from Mary wonderful! I am a lucky girl!!
Love your outfits of the week, Cindy! I need some lunches with the girls on my calendar. Let’s hope this week brings an end to the dreadful fires and relief to our friends under seige. xo
Hi Juliet
We all need lunches together!! Yes hopefully this week will be an end to the fires.
As a Lab lover, I too find it is hard to display my favorite items where I can enjoy it. Even my books aren’t safe around pups. I usually wait until the pup is 2 when they are no longer considered a puppy. For now. I resort to short candles, coasters and my coffee! Even my remotes are not safe! Thinking I may hide them in a wooden box that can be replaced.
Love your outfits of the week! I always look forward to these as they are usually affordable can be worn as every day wear! I am hooked on Quince! My daughter lives in Paris now and the climate is cooler there than here in Texas so everyone got something from Quince this Christmas! Except my Aggies and my Longhorn aficionados!
Love that mountain cabin! ❤️
Love your outfits today (and every day). I do shop on etsy but have never ordered from another country. I have always had concerns about shipping. Have you had any problems in that regard? I especially like the Kantha jacket. Thanks!
NancyO
Hi Nancy
I have had maybe two issues in all of the years I have been ordering from Etsy. Both times I received refunds.
Nancy – I bought the exact jacket that Cindy linked to from the vendor she rec’d. Order UP a size or 2 because that jacket runs small – I originally ordered a LARGE and had to send it back for a XXL – Yes – the shipping BACK overseas was as much as the jacket, but I loved it so and know I will wear it for years to come! Dialog with the owner of the Etsy shop if you have and fitting questions. They were very helpful. It took a while for it to arrive, but hey, it takes more than a week for the regular mail to go across town! The jacket is beautiful!!
Thanks for sharing Tea!!
Hi Cindy, I am a neighbor of yours in Arroyo Grande. I am finding as I age (your age) I only last three hours in a day doing yard work. I am still a very active person. I am on 1- 1/2 acres and on a steep hill.
How many hours a day do you work in your yard? Your yard looks lovely.
Hi Greer
We have a gardener that comes two hours a week and my retired husband does most of the yard work now! Our ground is flat so I can still work 3 hrs or so at a stretch but I don’t have to very often!!
I have been getting your posts for several years and suddenly I stopped getting them. I have re registered a couple to times but no success. Not sure why this is happening but I really miss your posts.
Hi Sue
I emailed you with my findings. I think they must be going to your spam folder!
Thank you for introducing me to Beth Meyer design. I love a neutral palette! I’m now following her on Instagram for more inspiration.
I have a pair of straight leg, a little on the wide side, cream jeans. I’d like to crop them but am not sure of the best length. I’d like to wear them with booties and fashion runners. Any advice?
Hi Joanna
According to the experts Ideal length: Slightly above the narrowest part of the ankle.
Styling benefit: Perfect for showcasing ankle boots or flats.
Avoid too short: If the crop is too high, it might look unflattering or too revealing. I hope that helps. I have a pair that is too short and they really bother me! Most jeans are too long for me so I am very happy about the raw edge trend!!
I find that washing them first to make sure the jeans don’t shrink any before I have them hemmed has helped a lot.
I am so sad about the fires in CA. I hope they can be stopped really soon. Terrible just terrible and terrifying too. Prayers for all of CA, first responders, safety, residents, pets, as well as trees and the flora and fauna. I enjoyed this blog. It is nice to see real wood touches are coming back. I am tired of all white. Thank you for your blog. Stay safe.
Hi Rory
I think Beth’s designs are just lovely as well.
I’m quite taken with the “branch” art stand. Do you recall where you bought it?
Hi Laura
I would contact the designer Beth Meyer.
That kitchen reminded me so much of our kitchen on Lido with the iron lighting over the island. I LOVE your first outfit. Inspired to do a little shopping (and of my own closet too).
Hi Mary Ann
I adore that kitchen and your kitchen was beautiful as well!
Love this blog. Gorgeous
Thank you so much Jill!!
