Great Transitional Jackets that will take you into Fall

Happy Thursday everyone. Today I am joining my friend Jennifer from A Well Styled Life for our monthly Over 50 Fashion Edit. This month we are talking about Great Transitional Jackets that will take you into Fall.

I think Banana Republic has some great classic looks right now. They are pricey, but very good quality. I love their Heritage River Vest. I think it is a great transitional piece.

cindy hattersley in banana republic utility vest, gigi pip hat and cp shades skirt

Here I am wearing it with my CP Shades Lily Skirt (it’s on sale), favorite Michael Stars tee, horn accessories, Sam Edelman Sandals, and a Gigi Pip hat. All items will be linked at the bottom of the post “Shop the Post”. The sandals could be switched out for low booties when the weather changes.

banana republic utility vest, j jill jeans, athleta shirt

In this ensemble, I am wearing the jacket with my favorite J Jill Jeans, a fabulous poplin shirt from Athleta (a new favorite), Artemis Smoking shoes, and the Gigi Pip hat. My new sunglasses are from Specs by Kyla in Atascadero.

cindy hattersley in gap jean jacket and anthro skirt

I love this skirt from Anthropologie. It is light as air. I am wearing it with my jean jacket, laid back london sandals similar, a Michael stars tee, and silver beaded earrings no longer available.

Here, I am pairing my jean jacket with the wendy pant from CP Shades (on sale), my ganni mesh turtleneck, and an old crossbody from Rag and Bone similar linked at the bottom of the post.

This terry duster from Anthropologie would be a great jacket for travel. It is super cozy and a great weight. I am pairing it with the Jenn pant from CP Shades, and my Beek flip-flops.

Here I am wearing the duster with black leggings and the comfy dolce vita slides (on sale). This would be a comfy travel outfit.

cindy hattersley fall jackets banana

I bought this Banana Republic “Shacket” last year. You can see how I styled it last year in my post Under the Radar Ways to Style Jeans Over 50. Here I am wearing it with the CP Shades Lily skirt, my Sam Edelman wrap sandals, and horn jewelry.

cindy hattersley in banana republic jacket & j jill jeans

I love this jacket with white. I am wearing it with J-Jill jeans, a Michael Stars tee, Artemis Design Co slides and the Gigi Pip hat. All items are linked below that are available.

cindy-hattersley-in-anthro-cargo-jacket

This cargo jacket from Anthro is amazing. It is not too heavy like some, the perfect transition jacket. It also has the most flattering shape. I think it would be flattering on almost anyone. Here I am wearing it a little out of context so you can see how versatile it is. Why not wear it with a fun Summer color that nods to Fall? You can pull the collar up and belt it for a little polish. The shoes are birdies, the linen crops Bryn Walker and the belt is ancient. I can’t even find on eBay or Poshmark.

cindy hattersley in Anthro Cargo jacket & bryn walker pants

I love cargo jackets and this one from Anthro does not disappoint. I am wearing it with Bryn Walker linen pants. I think this jacket is one of the best utility jackets I have seen. This one is brand new. You can read my post on the Best Utility Jackets for Women Over 50 here. I am long-waisted so I have problems with many. I love this one.

SHOP THE POST

Do you have a favorite transitional jacket that you wear in between the seasons? If so I would love to hear about it. Thanks for reading Great Transitional Jackets that will take you into Fall. Let’s pop over and visit Jennifer to see what she has found.

~ Howdy Cindy H. You look great, and I love your smile! What a stylish fashionista you are; such an inspiration. You look great in every outfit you model. I love denim and could live in it all the time. There are 2 denim jackets in my cowgirl closet: one with 3/4 length sleeves from Ralph Lauren; the other one is beaded all over with pockets from Chico’s Design. I love them both and style them accordingly. If a woman over 50 really knows herself and what looks good on her, should ever have problems showcasing her personal style. ~

      Hi Eliz

I think you introduced me to Bryn Walker. I love her linen pants. Many of her tops are too voluminous for my frame but I love them on you. You can wear anything and look fabulous!

  6. Barb L says

Love your style Cindy, you make it look effortless! The green vest is super cute, and versatile (looks great with the white shirt) and love the shaket too! I’m off to shop!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy

You are very kind. I am definitely not model material but I appreciate your kind thoughts!

  7. Annie Diamond says

Cindy! I’ll say it again…I adore your style. Every look is cooler than the next!

  8. Maeve says

I’;m in Maine and RI and fall jackets are a requirement here. Cotton jackets make good ‘transitional’ jackets, and as I have severeral navy ones, I am eyeing black and charcoa this year. J Crew has a great barn jacket, although I’m not sure they are calling it that. LL Bean always has a good selection as well. Loved your looks and the vest in particular. Thanks for the examples.

  9. Wren says

Love all your looks, as usual, especially some of the color combinations i.e. olive and mustard yellow, olive and peach., One surprising choice you made is the floral skirt with the flounce at the hem. I don’t see you gravitating in that direction but you give it more edge with the jean jacket. So many great outfits!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

You are right I am not usually a floral girl (or ruffles for that matter) I loved the color-washed look of that skirt and the ruffle is pretty unconsequential.

    Hi Cindy,
I think you missed your calling as a model! I love all the outfits you’ve pulled together. You always give me some ideas for the season. Thank you.
    Karen B.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karen

I would be a terrible model. It is so unnatural for me. I have had to force myself into it.

  11. Elizabeth@pineconesandacorns says

Cindy, you always look amazing! I love every outfit! And your hair and your glasses. I also love jackets and coats. Here is sort of goes from HOT to COLD! I think we may have a week or two in between, for that I wear light quilted jackets from Barbour or plaid ponchos which I love.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Cindy!
You guys sure look well-settled in @your new Paso digs! I meant to mention how sorry I was to hear of Beau’s passing. If you have not read the children’s book Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant, I suggest it. It is a wonderful way to explain the death of a pet to a child, plus it is so comforting for the adult. I remember reading it to my class when our beloved Cassie passed away. It is very sweet and will make you both laugh and cry.
Love your new haircut with side bangs. Could you please mention what color lens your new sunglasses are? Can’t tell if they are green or grey, but they look great with the frame.
    xo
    Wendy L.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wendy

I just ordered it from Amazon. I got the gray lenses per Kyla’s suggestion. If you ever need new glasses she is excellent by the way. If you feel like a drive, come on down and we will have you guys for lunch or dinner. Would love to show you around!

I was intrigued about the ideal transitional jacket. When I started looking through though, I realized that I actually have two. I’ve had them forever: an olive field jacket/shirt, lightweight because we’re in Florida. And a dark wash jeans jacket. I’m always on the lookout for another, better one or one that will fill in between the other two. I used to have a white jeans jacket that was great, but it has retired. I might consider another one. Or a vest. I use vests a lot, and each season seem to find a new way to use them.
Many of my ideas have come from this blog! Thank you so much.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Eva

I am so happy to hear that. I really love that vest. I find it very versatile.

  14. Bonnie White says

I am a fan of your curated clothing posts. Have spent 20 years in womens high end clothing and teaching how to sell those clothes, I’m probably a tough audience. That being said you consistently hit it out of the park. You answer the question of why do I want this.

I would love for you to comment how you feel something runs in fit. Such as, in the Banana Republic Jacket, I think this runs true to size, based on what I usually buy which is a small. Or runs large or runs small. Does that make sense? Hope so.

Don’t get me wrong, your presentation is excellent. This would be the cherry on the top!

    Often buy your suggestions, fyi.

    Bonnie

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Bonnie

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. That is a great suggestion. I will do that from now on. Jennifer always does. I am certainly not trained in fashion, so I forget about that kind of thing. I am so glad you brought that to my attention. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This blog began as an Interior Design blog and I gradually added a little fashion. Who knew it would ever become such an important component of this blog? I have let my readers guide me. You ladies have taught me more than you know.

Cindy! As my mother would have said, “you look fab” in every single outfit. I especially like the holdover summer colors with the fall jackets because they create fun seasonal transition.

    Hugs from Mercer Island,
    Diney

So much style up your sleeves. Love you looks and you cost me a bundle. Went to Atheta and bought the poplin shirt plus a few other things. I’ll blame you. You are a great model. Love the way you put the looks together. You can dress me any time. Oh I love the photo with the wind blowing. Great shotl. Look at what a model you’ve become.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sandra

I knew you would love that shirt! Banana has a great one as well. My white shirts were looking a little tired. The wind blowing was an accident of course.

  17. Mary says

LOVE all the outfits, Cindy! I’m tall (5’9) so will be trying on the duster from Anthro.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary

I think that duster is fabulous. It would be great thrown over yoga clothes for errands!

  18. Lesley says

You look lovely in all these outfits. Your style is very different from mine, I have trouble pulling off a more boho style. But I love the flowy dresses, skirts and pants you wear. It is the way you style them that really makes them look good. Thanks for the inspiration

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lesley

I do my best. I am going to be working with a new line that isn’t as artsy that you might like. I need to spread my wings. I try to not always style clothes that are just my style, but as you can imagine that is what I own. I tried this month to show a few colors I don’t normally wear (i.e navy).

  19. Debbie P says

Just ordered bone bracelet, necklace, earrings from Mosakshop on Etsy. Love her jewelry. I have a bone bracelet and ring I got in Kenya years ago and have been looking for more. Thanks for all your wonderful posts! Love your style!

WOW….I’M IN TROUBLE HERE. I want everything. Love you in the flowered skirt and denim. And so many inspirational looks.

Your outfits are fabulous! Those Byrn Walker pants are so fabulous on you. I just love how you put combinations together.
