Fashion Over 50-Summer Jeans Styling

Hi Everyone!  Mary Ann, Annie, and I are thrilled to be joining some of the most stylish bloggers in blog land for Fashion Over 50-Summer Jeans Styling.  Let’s be honest, if we aren’t in sweats we are probably in jeans considering the current situation. Many of us are still not going out much if at all. Why not lift our spirits a bit and up our jeans game. For me, that means pairing my jeans with cool breathable linen. I am a huge linen fan. You probably know by now I am not big on pattern or frills.  Most often I prefer solid colors in natural fabrics.

I think a lot of heavy accessories look and feel out of place in the Summer.  I am no expert but I think minimal accessories are more appropriate for summer’s casual-cool looks. Here  I am wearing my cropped denim jeans (from Topshop via Nordstrom from a couple of years ago), similar linked below. I am pairing them with my favorite j crew linen shirt and the Peruvian Connection hat you are probably getting tired of.  I love that hat.  The belt is ancient.  I can’t even remember where it came from. I hang on to my accessories. I have received so many emails about the belt I located one on eBay here, and here.

SHOP THE LOOK

Here, I am pairing a favorite linen shirt from Tancredi & Morgana local boutique.  The owner Marcia has made this shirt in every fabric and pattern imaginable and it remains a best seller. Here I am wearing it with white girlfriend jeans, water buffalo horn earrings and bracelets, and coconuts sandals. I know,  you see me repeat my accessories often.  In the summer I favor natural materials such as horn, wood, and a bit of silver. I prefer accessories that I can wear with multiple outfits.  I rarely wear gold, as silver looks better with my hair.

I know many of you don’t like linen because it wrinkles.  I didn’t even iron this shirt.  I pulled it out of the washer and hung it outside.  Here I am wearing the same cropped jeans in white with my favorite J Crew Linen shirt.  I tied a favorite block print scarf around my waist. All items or similar are linked below.

SHOP THE POST

In this photo, I am wearing an older pair of Madewell jeans with a CP Shades Embroidered Teton Top (from local boutique Warmth Company) Cp Shades does not iron their linen.  They believe it should be worn and enjoyed as is.  I am wearing it with two Paula Carvalho necklaces.  You can find her on Instagram here. You will love her work! As always wearing my comfy olukai flip flops for a super casual look.

So excited to see your suggestions for jean pairings for the summer. I would wear each and every one of your outfits!! Really! Love, love linen (the wrinkles don’t bother me), solids, sandals and jeans😍. What could be better. Thanks again for sharing!

      Hi Linda
You are a girl after my own heart. I don’t worry about wrinkles. I love natural fabrics and the comfort and beauty of them. So glad you agree!!

Love the looks!! But here in the East we have had such HOT, HOT weather that I’m living in shorts at home…may put on a pair of light weight pants to go to the grocery store! When it is almost 90 every day with humidity, shorts and tees are the only answer. Thanks for all your ideas!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janine
I understand you are suffering from the heat in the East! I am sure all you can think about is linen, shorts and tees! I am from the Midwest and I remember that heat! Thanks for weighing in!

I loved hearing you don’t have to iron linen! I totally agree! When I wash my linen and I hang it to dry I’ve started spraying around the collar with spray starch when it’s still wet. It gives it body without having to iron and use starch. Also loved the scarf as a belt! All are great looks! Thanks for the inspiration!

      Hi Paula

Hey I like that idea of spraying the collar with starch. I am going to try that one. I have found if you wash without any fabric softener and hang dry it works for most!!

You look great in all these pictures! You can’t go wrong with classic solid colors. I think solid colors make a person youthful looking. I don’t iron my linen either. And the right style jeans looks great.

Like you, I like solid colors. Prints don’t appeal to me, perhaps because I am a minimalist and feel prints make everything too busy. BTW, since Covid I’ve been letting my hair grow, hoping it would look like yours, but alas, it’s too fine and thin to wear long. A few minutes ago I cut it myself for the first time… LOL! Oh, my stars! It looks like it’s been gnawed on by a beaver! xoxox, Brenda

    HI Cindy,
You look great! I love wrinkly linen, and the way you’ve styled your jeans is fun and fashionable. I love the wide legged cropped style and got a few pair recently. Maybe not the absolutely most flattering on me, but so comfortable and fun and my daughters say I look “hip” in them, so there’s that! I always see something in your fashion posts to aspire to ( some would call it copying…)
Your hat is terrific, not tired of seeing it at all!
    Xo Heidi

I love your style, Cindy. You always nail it. I think you need to dispute the year on your birth certificate!!!

  8. Annie Diamond says

Cindy! You always look like the cover of your own lifestyle magazine…I love your belt…accessories have a way of coming in and going out which is why we should always keep them! You look amazing in each look! Can we please visit Tancredi & Morgan when I visit…when there’s a vaccine. xx

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan

Thank you so much. I am a huge linen fan and I don’t have a problem with wrinkles! Thank you so much for joining us once again!

SOLD… I am going to take my linen tops and hang them up to dry…instead of putting them in the dryer! Especially my Tancredi and Morgan shirts. The way you simply accessorize really elevates and distinguishes your fashionable looks, Cindy!

Wonderful tips! Wear your hat as much as you want & as often as you want!! Even at 54, I look like a 12 year old boy trying on his mom’s hat.

    Buongiorno Cindy
A presto!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Dora

You are always so kind. Thank you so much for always being so supportive! It sounds like things are much improved in Italy. I wish we had been wiser as a country.
