Creative Gardens-Harold’s Finishing Touches

Harold's Special Touches Patio Area

Do you follow Harold’s Finishing Touches on Instagram. They are located in Queensland Australia. “Harolds Finishing Touches, established in 2011 by Creative Director Aaron Bourne, is a boutique lifestyle store located in the bustling regional town of Toowoomba, Queensland in Australia.” Hey there Australian friends have you been?

OUtfit of the Week-red white and blue

I have had my eye on this darling top from Farm Rio. Wouldn’t it be fun for the upcoming patriotic holidays? The bag is from J Crew, the jeans (super comfortable and flattering from Frank and Eileen) and I just received the Dolce Vita Sandals and love them! They are a little stiff at first but once you wear them a bit they are quite comfy.

Cheap Chic Outfit of the week red white and blue

Here is a “cheap chic” version of the Farm Rio outfit of the week. I love both of these shirts from Mango. The sandals and bag are from Target. The Meg Jeans I also own from Kut from the Kloth.

A Precocious Pup-Adventures with Scout

Let’s just say that Scout is a total character. I don’t think Scout is ever going to be one of those lazy labs. He is full of energy. Thankfully, we have a wonderful trainer Liz Sevin. She has done wonders with him. He does have a long route ahead! He had his first dog sitter and she said he was the best puppy she ever babysat. I am wondering what the others were like..ha ha.

Farmer’s Market Recipes

I ran across these farmers market recipes from the Kitchn. I found several I am anxious to try.

Creative Garden Ideas-Perennials to Cut Back in Spring

house and garden perennials to cut back in spring

I found this article Homes and Gardens Seven Perennials to Cut Back in Spring interesting. I am sure it depends on what part of the country in which you garden, but you might find it helpful as well.

Sales of Note

Mango

I was amazed at how many great offerings Mango has. Yes it is fast fashion. I always recommend buying less and the best you can afford. Many of you can’t afford the higher end brands and so I will continue to offer less expensive alternatives

Now is a great time to pick up Outdoor Furniture and Accessories before they are sold out. Many retailers are having sales.

  1. I always look forward to your Sundays blogs. What is the name of the ground cover that Scout is standing on? It’s green with little white flowers. I must say I love your gardens. You should also be a lndscape designer. Then again everything you touch has style.

  2. Scout is a precocious, intelligent Lab puppy. As I have fostered over 100 sporting breeds, labs being the majority, I am asking you to think back to remember Beau as puppy. The chewing phase- remote controls, eyeglasses, carpet, rugs, etc. and of course, counter surfing. . Those chicken wings, the fruit salad with missing grapes . The window screens and well tended flower beds. He will grow and suddenly he is no longer a puppy. Cherish these innocent times. I often chuckle at those moments. I wish I had them back again. They are truly our fur kids, aren’t they?

  3. I immediately had to sign up for Harold on Instagram even though Toowoomba is almost 2500 kms away and is tropical as opposed to Tasmania’s temperate climate. One can always adapt.
And how gorgeous are those two little Mango white tops!!! I’d be up for those if I can find them in Oz!
Scout has grown so much. He’s lovely. And he’s a pup – the shenanigans are over all too quickly so enjoy. Suddenly they’re stately and we wonder how time flies.

  4. Hi Cindy,
The Harold’s Finishing Touches in the garden are exquisite, I love the garden picture you shared. It looks like an oasis in a park, so inviting.
Your fur baby Scout sounds like he’s a character plus plus. Just so cute. He is so handsome. Yay, it looks like Scouts babysitter will be back.
I can see you in the Farm Rio top, it has a chic style.

  5. Sometimes it’s not that one ‘can’t afford’ certain purchases but wishes to spend less on an article of trendy clothing. The Farm Rio top is very cute but I would never wear it enough to justify its cost same with wide leg jeans. I’d rather purchase at a lower price point knowing that I might get a season maybe two out of the item before it moves on. Remember the ‘cold shoulder’ trend of a few years back? It was on its way out before it was really inLOL Glad I bought one or two tops at a lower price point because they are long gone from my wardrobe. On the other hand have no problem with investing 500.00 in classic black suede boots or $$ on comfortable shoes or …cashmere!
Your puppy is adorable! We are on the fence about getting another dog it’s only been a few months and our lives will be hectic for the next year so will wait until we are settled. Now dogs I will spend $$$ on!! Our old lab mix lived like a king for fourteen years.

    1. Hi Ally

Excellent point. I should have phrased that better. I feel exactly the same way. I would not spend big $$ on anything trendy that will be gone tomorrow!! I totally understand your dog dilemna. My husband absolutely had to have a puppy. I would have preferred an older dog or one out of the puppy stage! We still do not allow Scout in much of the house because he chews everything in site. We are hoping when all of the puppy teeth are gone we will be able to! He is great about sleeping at night and has been potty trained from the get go! We love him to death but won’t miss the chewing stage!

  6. What a beautiful garden and I do follow him. I always love his pots and cement sculpture stuff. Hope you are staying cool this summer. If it is not hot enough for you then you are always welcome to come visit me here in Houston!

    Much love
    Amanda

    1. Hi Amanda

I bet you all are boiling in Houston! We have been in the 90’s but with an afternoon breeze, cools down at night and no humidity!

  7. Hi Cindy,
I have added Harold’s Instagram posts to mine thank you for that. We lived in Sidney, Australia for four and half years shooting a television series and it was so incredible my kids were “nippers” at the local surf club on Sundays and are now “sea people” because of it! Beautiful country very unique.
    Happy days!

  8. Cindy! The East Coast-ish and beachy style of Australia always catches me off guard … in the best way. Love that Farm Rio top … and all your summer, red, white and blue style. Hard to believe 4th of July is sneaking up on us. Scout is the most adorable pup and he gets a gold star for the good babysitter report. Dogs are just like kids, not always the most well behaved with their parents, but it’s how they act with others that counts. Well done, Scout! xo

  9. Mango does offer great style at a reasonable price point. I have a couple of pieces I enjoy. Thanks for featuring the red/white oversized shirt. I might have to order that one! I saw the blue Farm Rio Garden top at half price at Nordstrom! Always appreciate your inspiration.

    1. Hi Marie

They do a good job, don’t they? My experience is their shipping is a bit slow. I don’t know if that has improved?

  10. Ciao Cindy,
Thank you so much for having Outfit Of The Week For Less! I really appreciate it!
    As always, you never disappoint!

    1. Hi Elsa

I am going to try and find a good one every week. Ally made an excellent point. I hope you see her comment!
