White Gardens, Lauren Liess, Outfit of the Week

Happy Sunday everyone, today I am joining Most Lovely Things, and Classic Casual Home for our Sunday favorites.  I am featuring White Gardens, Lauren Liess, Outfit of the Week, and much more.  We are heading down to Paso for a little warm weather and wine tasting.  What are you up to?

White Gardens, Lauren Liess, Outfit of the Week

LAUREN LIESS LOVE

I  am constantly inspired by anything Lauren Liess does.  This Florida project where she utilized antiques and artifacts for a totally unpredictable Florida look.

For all of you Lauren Liess fans Lauren has a new book coming out in October that you can preorder now, Feels like Home Relaxed Interiors for a Meaningful Life. I have and love both of her other books Habitat, and Down to Earth.  I am sure this one will be wonderful as well.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

This week’s outfit is anchored by this Free People Tunic that I have been coveting all Summer. The back is as gorgeous as the front.  I finally pulled the trigger.  It is pricey but has so much interest.  The Nordstrom Hooded poncho is on sale (it also comes in black).  All of the accessories are from Etsy.  I found a good source on Etsy for the bone accessories we talked about last week (they have great reviews). You can read that post  Natural Accessories for Women over 50 here. Some of the water buffalo bone items are too thin and fall apart.  Apparently, these are substantial.  Water buffalo is ethically harvested by the way.  It is leftover from the food industry. None of it is wasted and the leftovers from jewelry are also used for fertilizer. The sandals are from Steve Madden.  I popped into my local DSW and loved the look.  I have never found a pair of Steve Madden shoes that were comfortable, but guess what these are.  The style is very flattering and they accommodate my bunion! The bag is from Akusa’s Baskets on Etsy.  I just love their bags. The sunglasses and leggings (I like cotton this time of year) are on sale at Nordstrom.  The gorgeous hat is from Brixton.  All items are linked below the graphic.

WHITE GARDEN LOVE

We have been working madly on the garden.  The front courtyard is basically done it just isn’t very lush yet.  I am attempting a white french style garden in the back.  If you follow me on Instagram you saw the fountain.

I am following the #whitegardenson Instagram for inspiration.  Texture, shapes, and variegated foliage are important when designing a white garden.  I may have to incorporate a little purple, but I am having fun with it. Of course very prominent under the hashtag is the beautiful garden of Loi Thai

WHAT ARE YOU READING

My sister and brother-in-law made a short trip (my brother-in-law came down with a bad case of colitis) to our home last weekend.  My sister-in-law recommended Miss Benson’s Beetle. I downloaded it to my IPad.  We are traveling to Indiana this week for my husband’s 50th high school reunion. I always love a great book for the plane. “A beautifully written, extraordinary quest in which two ordinary, overlooked women embark on an unlikely scientific expedition to the South Seas.”—Helen Simonson, author of Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand”

BEAU

Many of you have asked about Beau.  He had surgery to remove what had become a very large growth on his foot.  It was non cancerous thankfully and he is recovering beautifully.  We were able to avoid the “cone of shame”.  He left the bandage alone for the most part, and hopefully, tomorrow will get his stitches removed.j

I know many of you have taken advantage of the Eileen Fisher Sale at Nordstrom.  I checked yesterday, and there are limited sizes available in many of the items.  If you are planning to buy anything I would do it asap. I somehow missed this tunic.  I love the oatmeal color but it comes in three other colors including black as well. It would look great with white jeans and bone the bone accessories we talked about last week. I realized I never went through the accessories section.  There are some great buys there as well especially if you are in need of a new pair of sunglasses.

Nordstrom isn’t the only kid on the block having a sale.

ANTHROPOLOGIE – an extra 40% off sale and free shipping over $50

BANANA REPUBLIC – 40% off summer favorites and an extra 50% off sale

I really like their leggings.  I purchased these for $47.  I ordered the gray camo but think I will order the olive as well.  All of the styles in this legging are $47(almost target legging prices!!) I love these scuba knit sweatshirts on super sale.  There are not very many sizes left but if you can find one grab it.  I have the slit one in two colors and the hooded one in the light gray no longer available.  I am ordering the charcoal today.

J.CREW – extra 50% off sale styles and an extra 60% off select sale

Thank you so much for reading White Gardens, Lauren Liess, Outfit of the Week.  Now pop over and visit my friends to see what they are featuring.  I know we are going to hear more about that beautiful Spanish wedding. I will be back on Tuesday to discuss Outdoor Furniture. It is an ask Cindy request from a favorite reader.  We sold nearly every bit of ours from both homes (along with the houses).  Have you noticed how hard is to find and how EXPENSIVE it is? Let’s talk about it.

I just left my all-white garden. I don’t miss it even though it was pretty and I enjoyed it. I’m now embracing blue, white, and shades of pink. I think your garden is off to a great start. I love the fountain.
What great sales are going on right now.
    xo,
    Karen

Really love the post today. The simple, elegant White House with beautiful touches. The white garden is one of my favorites. And I love your outfit of the day. Just perfect.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Marilyn

I am so glad you enjoyed the post. I am enjoying the experiment challenge of the white garden!

I enjoy your posts so much and this one is especially beautiful. I’m looking forward to your post about furniture. I too sold my home and almost all of my furniture four years ago. Then we moved to Paris where we have been until June 1. With the unstable situation brought on by the pandemic, we came back to Houston and are trying to find a small house or townhome to use as a pied-à terre until we can return to Europe (if that’s possible). So, of course now I am anxious about furnishing it. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say! Thanks!

Please check the link to the Nordstrom hooded poncho? It comes up as one that you refer to as a tunic that you missed at Nordstrom. The hooded poncho looks more like a knit …HELP!

    HI Cindy,
I have no doubt that your all white garden will be beautiful! I love that look. I tried it on my deck one year, I think Ill do something similar again the next time I replant the containers.
Have a great week, enjoy your trip. Glad Beau is doing better.
    XO Heidi

I love a white garden. We have a small courtyard and have turned it into a moon garden with hydrangeas, bellflowers, geraniums and petunias. I love the look and definitely bookmarking your garden for lots of ideas.

Gorgeous post! Thank you for the lovely images, outfit inspiration, and update on Beau. Have always planted a white garden at each of my homes. There was one that broke my heart to leave: it had a kidney shaped island that echoed the curve of another larger flower bed, with a slate stone path in between the two beds. Placed a curved cement bench within the larger bed: perfect for sitting with twilight cocktails. Had an obelisk with cascading jasmine and moonflowers for vertical interest. It’s said if you listen closely, you can hear the flower buds pop open. There was an ethereal glow at dusk to the flowers and foliage which is the ultimate charm of a white garden. It became an exciting challenge to have correct proportions of green vs. white, textures, shapes, and sizes. I really miss that garden and wish I’d taken photos. The new owners neglected and ultimately razed it. Have since planted punches of white throughout the new garden, i.e. micro white gardens, as I heard that bees aren’t as fond of all white gardens and I wish to attract as many pollinators as possible.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

Thank you for sharing your former garden. It sounds like it was positively wonderful. Interesting comment about the bees..of course, it is true. I do have color in front and will keep it that way. For some reason, I am just attracted to the idea of an all-white garden. Perhaps because I have never tried one, and am not sure how long we will be here.

I have always had an all white garden. It did start with White Flower Farms “Moon Garden”. This year I had to tear out an older neglected back yard and what do you know? Another all white garden. Soothing and beautiful.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

I love white flower farms. I must check them out again! Thank you for reminding me!

  9. Joy says

    Yes!
A few years back I started a Moon Garden!
White is the color- and of course blossoms that send their scent out while sun is on the other side of the earth.
The moon, the stars, and the cool white couldn’t be lovelier.
    I can’t believe I waited until I was 60 to plant one.
It’s so much fun to buy seeds and plants simply because they produce white flowers- and so easy!

I have always preferred a white and green garden and used the iceberg roses in a past garden. They are really an easy rose to maintain. Also check out Gina’s white garden on instagram: Gina @gncgarden for some gorgeous ideas for a white garden. Love love the fountain and can’t wait to see your photos when you finish the gardens at your new home!

Have a wonderful time at the reunion.
Mine was 2 years ago and lots of fun!!
Even my husband who isn’t from Monticello, had a great time in our hometown!
