I am always on the lookout for stylish women over 50 when I am out and about. I recently made a not so pleasant trip to New Smyrna Beach Florida. Luckily I got to spend time with longtime friends Cheryl and Rod and they introduced me to the charming Terry England. Terry has an eclectic fine art gallery and ceramics facility. She sells one of a kind art and accessories for the home and offers ceramic workshops and classes. I was smitten with Terry’s style and instantly begged her to let me feature her. Welcome to Ageless Style -Terry England. My readers are going to love your eclectic style.
Terry and her husband have long been involved in the arts community in New Smyrna Beach. Her husband Richard serves as president of the board of directors of the wonderful Hub on Canal. The Hub houses more than seventy artists, and offers workshops, classes, and special events that bring the community together throughout the year.
A little background on Terry before we delve into the formal questions. Terry is a published poet and creates one of a kind necklaces in sterling silver and gold. Terry opened Jane’s Art Studio this past April. You can find the link to her personal designs here. I was totally taken enchanted with the space and the carefully selected art and wares in the shop.
Here Terry is in front of one of the many art installations throughout Janes. Does this woman look like she is full of fun?
The day after we visited Janes Terry graciously allowed me to photograph her in her art-filled home. Here she is at work in her imaginative studio.
How would you describe your style?
Boho Business if there is such a thing. Comfort is foremost. I am not a small woman. Most days I am in the art center nine or more hours.
Do you have a style muse?
Truthfully I do not.
What is your favorite accessory?
I design and wear my own jewelry, or from other metalsmiths and stone setters.
I wear pieces I have purchased from them. I recently made a necklace with driftwood from last year’s hurricane. The chain and clasp were hand soldered by me. I strung baltic amber chunks that were purchased in a pawn shop and finished it off with a tiny diamond.
What are your favorite color combinations
Black, White and Denim
Do you have a signature piece that defines your style?
Terry left this blank but I am told (from a very good source) that shoes & glasses do!!
What are your favorite beauty products and why can’t you live without them?
I wear Estee Lauder products on my face and eyes. Right now my “go-to” lipstick is Lancome’s Poem in matte. I like the balance and quality of these products. I usually only have one opportunity to apply makeup and it needs to last me all day. Lipstick is easy and can be carried in my pocket. I do have a tube hidden in every drawer of the gallery as well.
Do you have any style rules that you live by, or do you break the rules?
It is so hot and humid in Florida so I wear lots of linen. I never buy clothes or shoes because of the brand name. Even though I own a gallery my work uniform is jeans. In the morning I lay my jewelry and glasses out first (I have over 12 pairs of glasses).
I am actually excited to get dressed in the morning. How many women can say this?
What advice do you have for women over 50?
Don’t be frightened to step out of your style comfort zone. If you aren’t ready to step out in public with a new style, try it in the privacy of your home. Take note of how you feel. Really move, sit and lounge in the piece. You gain confidence in trying, and trying is courage.
Advice #2-WEAR SUNSCREEN. Have regular skin checkups because cancer sucks.
Thank you Terry for allowing us to feature you on Ageless Style and to give us a glimpse into your creative world. I am in awe of your artful style and your ability to inspire all of us over 50 and beyond. You rock!

Thank you for another great feature, Cindy. What is immediately apparent is that Terry is completely comfortable in her own skin. Her beauty comes from within and results in such a lovely appearance. She is truly inspiring. I wear bifocals, so my limit for the new prescription is three pairs of glasses. I love that she uses glasses as part of her fashion persona.

Cindy,
Thank you so much for the interview. You are truly a kind and generous person and full of your own beautiful style and grace. I am, and will be forever, grateful to have met you. Come back to New Smyrna Beach, Florida. We will wear sunscreen and walk on the beach. We can drink fine wine from paper cups and be thankful (at our age) we don’t have to wear a thong bathing suit to impress the lifeguards.
Life is good.
All best,
Terry J England

Hi Terry
Amen to no thong bathing suit! Even though that was spoken in jest. What you said resonates. The beauty of our age is we no longer need to impress anyone but ourselves! You were an absolute pleasure to interview. Thank you to you and Richard for the tour of your lovely home. I hope this will bring many new faces to Jane’s. It truly is a destination.

The first things I noticed, within the top three photos, were her glasses. You can tell an artist by her glasses! I am jealous–I am so near-sighted I could never afford 12 pairs; mine cost a small fortune. She looks fantastic in every shot. And yes, she does look like a lot of fun.

Nobody is safe from you and Elizabeth. You’re all over the country with your spying eyes. Good one Cindy. Creative and refreshing. Lovely to learn about her talent. UM, I have quite a few pair of glasses all over my house also.

I enjoyed her spunk, savvy, creativity and intelligence. I love that she uses her glasses to help set her daily mood. I, too, have multiple glasses in almost every room of my house, car, handbag and that’s so I can find one when I need it! Is her jewelry available online? I looked at her website but couldn’t find ways to purchase. Maybe it’s my glasses!!!!

I so appreciate Terry’s personal style. And the pieces in her gallery are so original and delightful. I think I’m going to swoon the rest of the day just thinking about her style. I’m planning my next glasses frame too. I love the image of all 12 of her frames laying out and waiting to be chosen. Thanks Cindy and Elizabeth! I’m enriched by your series!

This is an art shop I would love to browse. Terry is a perfect fit for Ageless Style. I love the way she dresses in comfortable, stylish clothing, then pops her outfits with colourful glasses and statement shoes. I really must buy more glasses. One pair simply won’t do now that I have seen the many faces of a Terry. Another great interview, Cindy!

Hi Cheryl
Thanks for introducing me to your fabulous friend Terry. I don’t often feature people who are not bloggers or instagammers only because it is more difficult and time consuming. When I met Terry I knew I had to interview her! Thank you for supporting me in everything I have done in the last almost 65 years…you are the best!!
