Today I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday favorites. As we are all enjoying time with our friends and families let’s not forget to honor those who have given their lives serving our country. What does memorial day mean to you?

Outfit of the Week

I have been coveting this Michaels Stars gauze outfit (of course it is not on sale). They do have this darling gauze dress on super sale for $38.99. J Crew Factory does have a great red gauze shirt on sale $39.99 here, but unfortunately no pants. The straw bag and hat (on sale $39) are from J Crew, the earrings from Amazon, and the sandals from Dolce Vita. Old Navy has some great crinkle gauze (including the skirt I featured a few weeks back) for much less here.

MICHAEL STARS OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

This great red dress is from Banana Republic Factory, at a fabulous price. I promise next week I won’t do red!! The earrings are from Amazon here.

  1. Great items from you, man. I have take note your stuff previous to and you’re simply too fantastic. I really like what you’ve obtained right here, certainly like what you are saying and the way in which through which you are saying it. You’re making it enjoyable and you continue to care for to stay it smart. I can not wait to learn far more from you. This is actually a great website.

  2. Cindy love the two red looks! I am loving everything gauze now.

Also forgot to mention Masters of Air is a great series about the flyers who gave up their lives and served in WWII. it’s really eye-opening how young they all were and their skills and also how some never had a chance and what they were sent into. Everyone should see it. Good acting too.

  3. Cindy So many Americans who gave their lives for democracy and for our democratic values. I think many would be shocked at what is happening to our nation and some who are wanting authoritarianism again. In honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us to live in Democracy, we can’t tale this next election lightly.

  4. Hi Cindy,
I liked your acknowledgment of .”this is the day.”
So nice seeing Summer being in charge of taking Scout and her fur baby for a walk. She looks so grown up and in charge.
My father also served.,He was an extremely patriotic man, with high standards. I will always remember how much he loved his country. At his service when he passed at a young age of 65 my mother was given a huge flag. We used to put it up over our garage in Sedona. It brings huge sentimental
treasured memories. My Papa would be honored to know we still have it.
Life is a gift, we have so much to be thankful for.
Enjoy your family over the Memorial Day weekend.

  5. Hi Cindy,
I expect your Memorial Day might be similar to our ANZAC Day. The ANZAC’S fought at Gallipoli and were responsible for creating the legend of the always layback Aussie/New Zealander – what is now defined as pure and courageous mateship against the odds.
Freedom and democracy lace through it like fine threads.
On another note entirely, I snapped up the little red straw bag from the other week. It’s making its way from France, via Ireland to Australia. Go figure.
Can’t wait for it to arrive.
Being a week post big-surgical (bowel reconstruction), I just want that quick endorphin hit of a bright red bag with all my goodies inside.

  6. Happy Memorial weekend Cindy! My beautiful son is in the Air Force and l have had family who served in both WW1 and WW2 so it’s a time of reflection and gratitude for me. I know the sales are going on but honestly l need a break from all the consumerism. Have a beautiful time with your family Cindy ! Lovely picture of Summer and Scout ☺️

  7. Memorial Day. For me, I remember my late husband’s good friend Brian’s son Suresh. Adopted at 14 he came to the Coachella Valley from Sri Lanka. He excelled at everything and became a Blackhawk pilot, then was killed over Kandahar when his helicopter was shot down. Handsome, capable, intelligent and loved by so many. I also remember my Dad who was a waist gunner in World War II. Many thanks to all the men and women who have served.

  8. Thinking a lot about Memorial Day this year. Of all things, in response to a book I recently read, and then listened to. “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. For those who haven’t read it, it’s about a woman who enlisted in the Army as a nurse during the Vietnam War. The second half of the story, is when she gets home, and is confronted with a huge lack of support or understanding.
My Dad was a career Navy man. He enlisted as a teenager, then went through Officer Candidate School, and was commissioned as an officer in the early 60’s. He served for 26 years, retiring in 1976, two years after the Vietnam War ended. My sisters and I tallied, that Dad was gone for more than 5 years of our childhood. My two sisters and I were raised, mostly by my Mom, in San Diego. Navy families were close, and helped each other, but that was a lot for my young Mom.
Just recently, reading this book, it was suddenly more clear to me that my Dad was in a war. He was a flight maintenance officer for a squadron of fighter jets. Pilots were being shot down, and either killed or taken prisoner. One of his roommates was killed in an accident on the deck of an aircraft carrier.
Meanwhile, at home there was a disconnect between growing war protests, and the enormous sacrifices the military, and their families were making.
What a powerful thing a good book is! I feel a great tenderness for what my parents went through because of this book. My dad died of cancer at the age of 52. He was certainly exposed to high levels of toxic substances during his years of working with jets in enclosed areas.
I’m flying my flag this weekend.

    1. My dad was in WW ll, 5th Calvary, Army. Thanks to your dad and many others for fighting to keep us safe and for the USA!🇺🇸 God Bless America!🇺🇸 We fly our flag every day! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Wish I had had a poppy to wear to church today and tomorrow!❣️
