Top 2025 Trending Nail Colors Women Over 50 Will Love

Do you change your nail color with the seasons or tend to stick to the same old shades? There are definitely some funky new nail color styles and trends on the horizon. For those of us over 50, the key is finding shades that feel fresh, sophisticated, and timeless. We love finding new inspiration for nail colors that suit our personal style and make us feel confident. Whether you prefer glossy finishes or subtle matte finishes, these options are all about enhancing your personal style.  Let’s dive into the top 2025 trending nail colors women over 50 will love

Cindy Hattersley in Frank and Eileen

While many of us won’t be embracing the trendy chrome finishes, cat eye nails, sweater nails, or the delicate nail art trend, we do realize the importance of staying updated with trends and trying new things at any age. We also understand the value of considering our skin tone and undertones when matching different shades to our wardrobe and personal style.

Nail Shapes

I am sure you have seen the new almond-shaped nails that many celebrities are sporting.  I personally like to keep my nails short and manageable. I won’t be embracing that look. I would be making constant trips to the nail salon with broken nails.

The Power of Pastels

The milky nail trend is expected to continue. Pastel shades like dusty lavender and mint green to buttery yellows ( I might give this one a try) will make an appearance.  Nail experts and trend spotters agree that mocha mousse, the warm creamy brown that is Panetone’s color of the year, will dominate nail salons in 2025. According to Glamour Magazine, the color will” feel like a warm hug to nail wearers”. If this color complements your skin tone, give it a shot.

Natural and Clean

If you love your nails natural and clean, you might want to try the new takes on the classic French manicure ( more delicate traditional white tips than in the past) or very short natural groomed nails that evoke a sense of quiet luxury.

Bold and Fearless

Many of us may not be embracing metallic nails or metallic accents now that the holiday season is over, but vibrant and bold colors aren’t just for the young. Do you embrace playful designs and brighter shades? Don’t be afraid to amp up your nail game and make a bold statement  Deep blues, olive greens, classic ruby reds, and bright colors can be your best friend.

Trends like soft gradients, and metallic and glossy finishes might  evoke a modern edge for some.  I find a short gel manicure will last three weeks, and is kinder to my nails.

Top Non Toxic Brands

If I were my own manicurist, I would explore the non-toxic options. Ella & Mila is available at Target and online at Beyond Polish. I like ordering my Target loot online and picking it up in the store (then I am not tempted to buy other things I don’t need!). Londontown is available online here. Sandra Sallin is a big fan of Olive and June. Butter London is another clean brand with beautiful color options here.

EDITIORS NOTE:If you are local, for your next manicure, you might want to try my favorite local nail salon, Mingee Nails. It is owned by a local hard-working Vietnamese Couple, Mindy & Ben. Their salon is clean, welcoming, and they are super organized.  They operate on an appointment only basis and they are always on time. Ben and Mindy have two great kids, one preparing for med school and the other a successful high school senior hoping to get into Stanford. I love supporting them, and can’t recommend them more highly.

  1. I am also a big fan of Londontown. In addition to being non-toxic, it is also a woman-owned company. I discovered it during the pandemic and have never gone back. As a home manicure gal with limited precision, I find their brush to be a game changer! A bit pricey, but it’s always on sale. I’m wearing their Rosewater right now

  2. I have been having manicures every two weeks using dazzle dry . Polish dries quickly, no led light required, comes off with regular polish remover. Used Ohora nails when my manicurist took a break , those were fun.
I would be interested to know what collagen you are using?

    1. Hi Cindy

I have been taking Collagen for Her for several years. It has absolutely no taste and I just put a scoop in my coffee every morning instead of milk. It has both collagen #1 and #3.

  3. I’m 56 and I really don’t like any of those colors except for funny bunny. Black gel polish is always my favorite but on occasion I like bright pink or green

  4. I love seeing all the new colors and suggestions. I loved having gel nails when I was working. I have weak nails so I keep something on them always. Since I’ve retired I mostly do my own manicures and usually do neutrals. The Today Show recommended Dermelect products and I have been using ‘Makeover’. I’ve been very pleased at how my nails seem to have improved and aren’t breaking as much. I do get pedicures (always such a treat!)

  5. You don’t even mention the talons that seem to be a trend for the young. How they can do up buttons or virtually anything requiring dexterity, is beyond me! Years ago I read that older women shouldn’t wear red polish because of drawing attention to old hands. With more veins showing and other age-related flaws, it was frowned on by the person who wrote that and it’s always stuck with me. That and any tiny chip showing has kept me from red on my fingers but I still paint my toes brightly.

    1. Hi Wren

I guess the only color that wouldn’t draw attention to our hands is a neutral!!

  6. Thanks for the great info. I use Dazzle Dry, non toxic, quick dry and stays on for 10 days. Wonderful color selection as well. They offer a mini start kit. Give it a try sometime.

  7. Have you ever heard of Dazzle nail polish? It’s wonderful! I do my own nails, I currently can! It is a system and it actually works! Polish stays on your natural nails at least a week to three! There are salons that offer it , just google dazzle nails, and put in your zip code.

  8. If I painted my fingernails at all, which I try not to do because they’re better for breathing air, then I reckon I’d go for the delicate French manicure. As my 73 year old hands age, they are collecting age-spots, freckles, scars and of course, arthritic knobs, and as I’m a gardener, it’s best to keep them as subtle as possible. Different story for toe nails however! I purchased gorgeously elegant metallic sandals this year to go to a party and as I was wearing navy and white, the toes cried out for fire-engine red. Did it all myself and it looked fine. But took it all off next day as we live on the coast with sand and beaches and I swim a lot in the sea – the varnish doesn’t stand up to the coastal wear.
Good luck to those who can tolerate all the chemicals on their nails. Mine just get a nail thrush. Now if anyone has a cure for that…

    1. Hi Prue

I love your wisdom. If I didn’t have to style clothes for you all..mine would be bare as well!

      1. Hi Beth

If you click on the link to my other post I featured several safe polish removers.

  9. Recently I saw a young lady with a spectacular French manicure, it was brown velvet with gold chrome tips. This was such a classy New Year’s Eve look. The velvet look was matte polish I do believe. After wearing scrubs in the ER all my working life, I have a gel manicure every 2-3 weeks, I love it. My nails are holding up very well, but few manicures ago, my nails were Dremeled almost away. I keep searching for the perfect nail tech.

    1. Hi Nancy

I have had some in the past that have been over dremelled as well. The couple I go to now are very careful. That is why I love them!

    2. Get a hard gel manicure. It will save your nails. They put the gel over a clear hard substance and they don’t need to drill it of every time.

  10. I do dip too…and keep them short so they aren’t clicking on the keyboard. Fun post!

  11. Hi Cindy, Thanks for mentioning me. These days I wear Press-on nails. The new ones by Impress stay on for weeks. I get so many compliments on my nails and I always tell them they are Press ons. I love them.I still can garden, clean the house, wash pots and pans, but I wear gloves. I’ve been wear the burgundy color I’m Not a Cinna. They’re short and squarish. I’ll probably go for lavender or white come Spring. Always a treat reading your blog.

    1. OMG press on nails…I am not even capable of polishing…you amaze me as always!!

  12. Dear Cindy,
Thanks for the research on our behalf! I like shorter nails like French women also!
I really like the winter/spring Butter London shade in the lower right but, is the name correct? Two have same name…
    Thanks!

  13. When and if I do get my nails done Funny Bunny was my top choice. The staff at the salon never like to hear that as they get tired of applying such a plain color..ha! but I rarely do my nails unless we are headed on a trip or cruise as I’m in the garden or doing so sort of craft or cleaning that just creates too much wear on them. Love the options your showind..maybe time for a new shade next trip.

    1. Hi Lori

Funny bunny has been my go to for Summer in the past. I have to keep my nails up to snuff for this job! Otherwise I would have the same issue!!

    1. Hi Eileen

“a nail technique that involves applying a base coat to the nail, then dipping it into a colored acrylic powder. The powder is then sealed with a clear, liquid top coat to create a long-lasting manicure”

I had trouble with my nails getting weak and breaking with other manicures. It also lasts 3 wks. I will say it may be partly due to collagen as well. I have been taking it religiously for about 5 years.

  14. Thank you for all this information. I try to keep a sheer neutral polish on my short nails and only use Londontown products now. Easy to put on and take off. The polish application brush is the best. They regularly offer discounts.

    1. Hi Paula

I have heard nothing but good things about Londontown. Thank you for weighing in.

  15. So very happy with my Londontown! Gel and dip ruined my nails and this systems works so well with my short weak nails.😊

    1. Hi Pam

So happy to hear that. If I ever have to do my own nails again (hopefully not I am awful at it). I will give them a try!

  16. Very cool you noted a local business. Even though I don’t live nearby it is nice you mentioned them!

    1. Hi Elle

I love supporting local whenever I can. Mindy and Ben are really quality, professional people.

  17. I have to leave my nails short, I can’t even deal with long nails at all. I like a fairly neutral color that goes with everything but I’m going to try some of the ones you showed.!! my nails do not grow at all unless I use the dip method. Then it makes my nails so hard, they actually do grow! I just have to find where I can buy the butter nail polish. I’ve seen some very nice colors that I like.!

    1. Hi Martha

I couldn’t agree more about the Dip. My nails are in so much better shape and they rarely really never break. They grow like crazy but I wonder if collagen has anything to do with that!!

  18. I will not be shopping at Target now that they have chosen to turn their backs on diversity, equity, and inclusion. I am disappointed that you are highlighting their store.
