Sunday Fun Five-Interiors, Ice Cream, J Jill, Emily Henderson

It’s Sunday and it is time for Mary Ann, Annie and I to share five fun things that caught our eyes this week. Let’s check out my Sunday Fun Five. I hope you all are having a great weekend.

Five Fun Finds This Week

#1 GROUT SELECTION HELP

Have a hard time selecting the right color of grout?  Emily Henderson has a great post you will want to read The Difference Grout Color can Make Tiles.

Emily Henderson Helps you Select your Tile Grout Color

I have to admit I am not much of a J Jill shopper (not necessarily for any reason) but I  do love their linen offerings. I was really surprised at how many pretty things they had. All full-priced items are  30% off  I popped into my local J Jill the other day and I walked away or ordered these.

#2 SUMMER’S FAVORITE ICE CREAM

Summer LOVES ice cream, and Steve loves to make it for her.  Here is his simply delicious vanilla ice cream recipe.

Glad you took a look at JJill. I have found some great items there over the past year. I also purchased a ‘seagrass’ linen top: a tunic for the summer, and I get so many compliments on it! 🙂 For exercise I meet with a sweet group of ladies, and we work out with a great trainer for a l-hour session twice a week (we’ve been meeting outdoors since the pandemic mess started!). She gives us a great core and strength training workout each session that covers it all: legs, gluts, arms, chest, abs, back. We utilize weights, bands, and floor mats to get it all in. I wish I had the self discipline to do it on my own, but I don’t. I need the accountability and the leading of a trainer and the group.
I enjoy your posts so much, Cindy. Thank you!

  2. Dora Renata Pala says

Buongiorno Cindy. 🥂🍾🍿😄Buona settimana cara Cindy.

  3. Ginger says

Love the linen tops! I’ve been walking and swimming when I can but I’m really missing my weekly Pilates!

  4. Laura Bervig says

I have had a hip replacement. Doing yoga can be challenging for me because I don’t have quite the flexibility on that side compared to my natural hip. I also get some clicking in the joint if I try to bend too far (when I squat for example) but I have never had a dislocation as I had an anterior replacement which has less chances for dislocation. I think with modifications you should be able to do yoga without issue!

  5. Karen B. says

    Cindy,
It’s fun to wear linen this time of year, it really is so much more comfortable for the summer heat. I’m happy to know J.Jill has some wonderful blouses on sale.
The summer seems to be flying by, does anyone else feel that way?
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
    xo,
    Karen

  6. Diana Amato says

    Hi Cindy,
If you do invest your time in yoga, I recommend that you really listen to your body. It can be of such great benefit to us at any age, any condition. Just go slow. Little movements and stretches will be of great help. It’s all about the journey. Love all of your shares this Sunday! Thank you.
    Diana

  7. arlene mighton says

Cindy, I have had a hip replacement, had it removed, had another put in and have had two dislocations. I do yoga and pilates. I do not cross my implant right leg over my left, that’s what causes the dislocation for me. I modify anything move/pose requiring that. And I don’t do any high impact anything. Love your posts, have copied your gray nails! Arlene

  8. Heidi says

    Hi Cindy,
Those linen shirts are really nice! Perfect for the next few hot months.
We recently rediscovered our old ice cream maker, and it’s really fun to make a batch. It tastes so good!!
I do yoga every morning, it has been an absoulte life changing addition to my days. I’m stronger, sleeker, & more confident because of it! I would highly recommend “Yoga with Sarah Beth”. My daughters and I love her videos. I find her to be the absolute best. No chit chat, no unnecessary noises, just calm, smooth direction, and she has a lot of videos to choose from. Also, “Yoga Download with Kassandra”. (Adrienne is super popular but I think her chatter is a little annoying!) I have about 200 yoga videos saved on my YouTube page. Anyway, start slow, honor your body and don’t push too hard, and if you are very consistent in awhile you’ll see remarkable results! Good luck with whatever you choose. ( you can even search on YouTube for yoga with/for hip replacement)
I hope you are enjoying your summer!
    XO Heidi

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Joan
I am going to check out gentle yoga. As stated above I am very strong and remain very flexible but feel it is time to get with it. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

  9. Joan M. says

I had right hip replaced 14 months ago…but was doing yoga at least once a week for 24 years prior to that. And yoga off and on for 10 years prior. I went right back to yoga and had kept my practice and walks even up to the day before surgery. I think my quick recovery was due to my flexible muscles and core strength. I now take my yoga class through Zoom and have been better about my daily walks due to our house bound restrictions. I say go for it but do not overdo it, only as far as your own comfort level. The class I take is Stress Reduction and Relaxation. On Zoom it is even less strenuous, called Gentle Yoga.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Sandra you made my day! There are so many reasons I love you!! I remain very strong but I am going to lose it if I don’t get with it!!

  10. Jane says

I really like these posts, Cindy…very streamlined and interesting! I want to say that I love the linen drapes, I had no idea J. Jill sold anything other than clothing. I’m looking for a refresh in our master. I’m also loving the linen shirts, especially the way they are layered… a great look and a must sometimes in the cooler months! Finally, the yoga. I only have back issues–in fact mine has a ton of metal clamps and clips I live with. The stetching and holding poses works for me, I have no idea why. I was doing yoga at a lovely studio, but not since the pandemic. I now follow several programs on Netflix and Prime. As far as your setbacks, maybe light yoga and skip anything that causes you pain. Many of us in our class did that. No judgement whatsoever.

    Jane ❤️

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Jane
Hope you have been enjoying your summer! I haven’t had any setbacks I have been terrible about formal exercise. Now that most of my work is on the computer I need to get with it! I am actually very strong so I have no excuse. I have no trouble carrying my 40 lb granddaughter around. Thanks for the kind comments!

  11. Janet Utsey says

I live in coastal Alabama and linen is a n absolute must have in my summer into fall wardrobe. I am like you. J.Jill has some great items, but it is still not my favorite place to shop for the most part. I will have to also say that I totally agree with your daughter, I absolutely love Yoga with Adrienne! She is adorable and has so many videos that I know that you can find some that you can do! I have been powering through the pandemic with her and she not only has made me feel less decrepit ( I am almost 65) Ha! But, she has improved my mood. I highly recommend her.
Also, I must say that I really enjoy your blog. I love your aesthetic and your wonderful upbeat attitude! I look forward to your email, which is more than I can say for 98 percent of the emails I get. Keep up the fabulous work!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet

You made my day! Thank you so much. My daughter was a fitness fanatic before Summer was born and would never have even considered yoga. She is now working from home and does Adrienne on her lunch hour. I am definitely going to check her out!

  12. Francesca B. says

Love your blog Cindy thank you for the happiness it brings. I had a hip replacement last year and I am now back to doing yoga level 3 and walking a year later, right as rain, back to where I was before I had hip problems. I have done yoga for years and there is nothing like it. Find the teacher and the studio you like.
Highly recommend my teacher who i have known for ten years- http://www.yogawithdrorit.com- there are many levels and I commit to doing a class online 3/4 times a week and walking. First 7 days are free. Wish I was back with my yoga buddies in a studio but not right now.
Ice cream, looks heavenly but me and mine are on a health kick!
    Take care,
    Francesca B.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Francesca
No in studio workouts possible here either. I frankly would not feel comfortable even if they were. I am going to check out your instructor. Thank you so much for weighing in!

  13. Elizabeth says

I love all of your picks for the weekend. I am a fan of linen, I think it looks beautiful and classic. As for yoga, instead of investing in something right now check out all of the free things on utube or Fitness Blender. What do you currently do? What do you like to do? My niece who is a trainer said the best exercise for you is the one that you see yourself doing the rest of your life and enjoying it. I personally love walking and yoga and do both weekly, 5 days a week hot yoga and a 5 mile walk daily.

Perhaps we could all form an exercise club or a walking/steps club?

    Have a great day.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Elizabeth
I love your nieces advice. My goodness hot yoga! My daughter who was a fitness fanatic pre “Summer” couldn’t even handle the hot yoga. No wonder you look so fabulous!!

  14. Susan Kelley says

I had both hips done at least 20 years ago at our Mayos. During this past year, the left side dislocated 3 times, finally had to have a revision(new Parts) Orthopod felt the silicone pad had worn down and that what caused the dislocations. Moral-becareful what you do. Dislocations are no fun, hurt like hell and you cann’t push it back in! So take care of your body and don’t subject it to any stress. Or talk to your orthopod before starting any exercise program!. (Just saying……..)I really would not want anyone to go through what I have been through in the last six months!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan
My father had trouble with dislocations right after he had his second hip replacement. He tried to do too much too soon and paid dearly. I can only imagine what you have been through. I suspect I will have to have both of my hips done again if I follow my parents life span. Thank you so much for weighing in! I had the anterior approach (less invasive) which supposedly have fewer problems with dislocations. Good Luck

  15. bonnie says

Do Go Back to Yoga . My yoga teacher has had both hips replaced in the past 10 years. She is 69 now and still a great teacher. I think yoga strengthens all the muscles around the new hip joint, and keeps your posture in good alignment.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Bonnie
Sadly I have never been an excerciser per say. My exercise has always just been working in the garden and running up and down the stairs next to my office. I know pitiful!! Thanks for your help!!

  16. Cynthia Blaylock says

I’ve not had hip replacement but after almost a full year of horrendous sciatica pain and spinal epidurals that did nothing to help it, I started Pilates in May of 2019. I am addicted and love it – I go 3 times a week. My sciatica pain has disappeared and I feel like my energy and balance is better (I’m 67). A good Pilates instructor, even in a class full of people, will ask you about any limitations you have and help you modify so you don’t stress your hip joint.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cynthia
Going to a gym in California is not an option right now so I am going to look into you tube etc. I have absolutely no pain and no problems carrying my 40 lb grandaughter up and down stairs, but need to get with a more regular program! Thanks for the tips!!

  17. Janet Arden says

That ice cream sounds really yummy! I started doing yoga with Adrienne when my gym closed early this spring. I thought I should do more than walk. I really like it and her (although I’ve been a green of a slacker lately.– maybe just some pandemic blues?). I really enjoy your Sunday Five’s.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Janet
The ice cream is simple and yummy, and I don’t even like ice cream. Great with fresh berries as well. Thanks for weighing in. I so appreciate you reading!

  18. Andrea says

I like yoga with Adrienne too. I’m no spring chicken either but I did find it’s lots of time on my wrists. I’ve been jumping rope.

Thanks for the shirt recommendation. I love your dress from Target.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Andrea
Jumping Rope is a good idea. I run up and down my stairs which are right outside my office. I need to get with it and do more! I am going to check her out.

  19. Annie Diamond says

Steves ice cream sounds and looks delicious! Wait until Summer is offered a dish of ice cream and it’s from a carton…she’s not going to know what to make of the cheap stuff.

Love this about grout, we have white subway tile and the grout turned creamy yellow and this post is reminding me i need to do something about it. It really does make a big difference and I’m afraid my laziness is causing me to get used to it! Maybe if I knew you were coming for a visit I would do something about it!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Annie
Wish I could come for a visit! You are probably right about Summer. Apparently she loves frozen yogurt as well!

  20. Robin says

    5 stars
    Hey Cindy,
You can definitely do Barre3. There are many Youtube and Vimeo free videos. You can also do a free 15 day trial. I have been doing this for over 3 years. I love this. All the best from Umbria, Robin

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Tammy
As I said above I had one hip replaced in 2015 and one in 2017. No trouble either time. You will be amazed at how quickly you are back to normal. I had a fabulous physical therapist the second time around that really pushed me. He had me walking up and down the stairs immediately. I never even had to sleep downstairs. Thanks for reading and keep us posted on your recovery!

  21. Tammy says

I had my hip replacement 9 weeks ago and am anxious to start yoga again when it is safe. It does make me nervous to be honest. How have others managed it?

Sunday’s are fun to see your posts..thanks so much. Brightens my day!

  22. Theresa says

I am 71 years old and have shopped at JJIll for many years. I, at one time, loved linen, but finally got tired of the ironing and stepped away from linen purchases. I found that I wanted to wear the linen piece but didn’t want to take the time to iron so I would pull out something else.
Enjoy your JJIll purchases. Their clothing is wonderful and with up to date styles.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Theresa
I understand many do not like the wrinkling of linen. I have learned to embrace it. I wash it hang it dry (don’t use fabric softener) and if I just yank it a few times while drying it comes out natural looking and wearable!!

  23. Mickey says

    Hi Cindy,
I had a hip replacement five years ago & do yoga. I love it. Right now I’m having trouble with my left side & hoping I don’t need a replacement. Yoga does help with all the stretching, though.

I love your posts! They bring me much joy – thank you!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mickey
Thanks for the sweet comment. I have had both hips replaced one in 2015 and the other in 2017. I had absolutely no trouble at all. In fact the second one only required extra strength tylenol. I remember my doctor saying the only thing I couldn’t do was a particular yoga position. I need to find out if that was forever or temporary!

  24. Mary Ann Pickett says

Wish I could have a scoop of Steve’s ice cream RIGHT NOW! Yoga really works for me but I have been such a slacker. It’s so great when I feel still or have lower back pain. I’m going to check out Jenna’s link!
Ha! Ice cream and yoga…what a great post!!
