Southern Interiors, Healthy Meals, a Great Show and More

If it’s Sunday I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday faves. Steve and I just got back from our trip to Oregon which I will share on Tuesday. I am looking forward to sharing all the details with you. Today let’s chat about Southern Interiors, Healthy Meals, a Great Show and More.

ASHLEY GILBREATH DESIGN ON INSTAGRAM

Ashley Gilbreath is known for her fresh approach to traditional southern style. Whenever someone comments they are happy that pretty interiors are back, I think of Ashley’s beautiful designs. If you love pretty southern interiors you will want to follow Ashley here on Instagram. You can also see much of her wonderful work here on her website. The photos below are the work of the fabulous Emily Followill. You might also enjoy Ashley’s beautiful book Joy of Design which you can find on Amazon here.

AARP HENRY GATES

I work hard and sleep like a baby. Gates, 73, shares how he became a revered Harvard professor, a best-selling writer and the founder and host of the hit PBS show ‘Finding Your Roots’ here.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

Many of you asked for some classic options. I am crazy about the Spanx pant options (they come in extended sizing as well) . They are pricey but so flattering. I love this (on sale) great belted denim jacket from Gap, and the fun toile bag from Etsy. If you have been wanting a pair of ballet flats, these Sam Edelman beauties are a great option.

SHOP OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

LOUDERMILK ON NETFLIX

Steve and I are loving this one. Are any of you tuning in? I think you will love it. We love the main characters ( especially Sam, the grumpy former music critic), and the writing. Loudermilk is one of the best we have watched in awhile.

GREEK SHEET PAN CHICKEN

I love a simple sheet pan recipe and this Greek Sheet Pan Chicken from the Mediterranean Dish is a good one. If you are short on time, this is a tasty way to get your veggies in without a lot of work.

I hope you had time to read my interview this week with Cheryl from If It’s Tuesday here.

Thanks for reading Southern Interiors, Healthy Meals, a Great Show and More. How was your week? Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for their favorites.

Cindy, I love your Sunday posts. That blue bedroom with the bunk beds…oh my! Thanks for sharing all your great tips…will check out that show too.

  2. Edel says

Hope you had a wonderful time in Oregon – the weather was brutal as you know, but today the sun is out and we’re 56 degrees! Look out for Offspring on Netflix, great Australian comedy/drama about a gynecologist in Melbourne and her crazy family – its multiple seasons so prepare to binge 🙂

  3. Diane E Ruebel says

    Dear Cindy,

Ashley Gilbreath’s interiors are breathtaking. What I especially love are the imperfect antiques that soften the formalities. The whimsy in her symmetry makes for such fun living.

Having lived just south of McMinnville for many years, we always make a quick detour into the charming wine area on our way south to visit long time friends. It will be fun to brose your discoveries on Tuesday.

So glad Steve is up to car trips again,
    Diney on Mercer Island

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Diney

Ashley is such a talent, isn’t she? Love her work. I always love a little imperfection in my environments and my personal style. We really enjoyed our time in Oregon, and are plotting our next trip!

  4. Prue Batten says

It’s interesting how tastes are so divergent. I don’t like LouderMilk at all but love Fisk (being Australian) and on a featherlight note that won’t jar or pinch but with stunning settings , Darby and Joan (also Australian).
I also think that British shows via Britbox have enormous star power, brilliant writing and production qualities and sometimes (maybe a lot) make Netflix productions look a little second-rate and plastic.
On the subject of Australian, it always saddens me when you include such great clothing and we know here in Australia that it will be almost double the price and if it comes from O/S, the postage will be astronomical.
But one can work around it – either via ebay or secondhand/consignment sales.
The main thing is the inspiration and you give that to me in spades! Thank you.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Prue

We need to subscribe to britbox and I added Fisk to my list! I love some of the Australian makers. I would love to work with them!

  5. Annie Diamond says

Cindy! I have not heard of that show! Now that the Australian Open is over, maybe we will try it!
Love your outfit of the week! That jacket and the toile tote! perfection.
Can’t wait to read about your trip on Tuesday!
    xo

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Annie

Thank you! Tennis is the only sport Steve doesn’t watch I think! I never played much tennis so I have never gotten hooked!

  6. Sarah says

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy Loudermilk! He can be a tough character to love, but I think that’s what is so refreshing about the show. It’s written in part by a Farelly brother, so no surprise! (Remember “There’s Something About Mary”?)

Quince just came out with a longer version of their chore jacket, similar to the Gap jacket (but not belted) and under $60.

  7. Catherine says

Great post. The article on Henry Gates was so interesting. We have also been watching Loudermilk, it’s good! Very wearable outfit too. Cute denim jacket. Can’t wait to try the Greek sheet pan chicken. Looks delicious!

A perfect variety of interesting items!

  8. Rosie says

Cindy—Please keep in mind that not all of us are on social media platforms by choice (Instagram, Facebook, etc) and we may not have streaming services. I would love to look at some of the work from other designers that you mention, but am unable because I’m not on Instagram, I’ve chosen not to join those platforms because I personally know a few people that have had problems and had to shut down their accounts. As far as streaming services, some of us are unable to financially justify or choose not to spend their money for these services.
I love your posts and you do such in-depth research on topics. So, nothing against you, but I can’t understand how most people assume everyone is on social media and subscribing to streaming services, especially in the over 60 and older age group. I’m too busy living life that I don’t have time for Facebook and Instagram.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Rosie

I will keep that in mind. I always link to their portfolios as well, where you can view their work in more depth. I try to provide a balance on Sundays, so there is something for everyone. Thanks for your comment. I will continue to do my best.

  9. Francesca B says

    Hi Cindy,
Thanks for a lovely post. I bought the chambray shirt as it sounds perfect for petites and it’s on sale win win!! Definitely will watch the series you mentioned my brother is in the music biz and it’s tough! I adored Slow Horses on Apple and eagerly waiting series 4.
    Happy week:)

  10. Pamela Turner says

Thank you for the introduction to the two designers. Pretty spaces, indeed. I love those ballet slippers!

  11. Rhonda says

Lovely post! Great outfit of the week but I can’t get your outfit links to load since the website update. Don’t know if it’s just me. I’m using a laptop not a phone to view your blog.

  12. Joanna says

I would love a post on white shirts that are not just your typical button down, 🙏🏼
I’m looking into Loudermilk tonight. I need a little humour in my life right now,

  13. Ann says

As usual your content is full of interesting topics. I’m a huge fan of Henry Louis Gates and his program Roots. Looking forward to Loudermilk.
I like the Age vibrantly, confidently, fashionably. I think I’ll type it on a card to post on my closet door!
OMGosh! I turn 79 this week!

  14. Linda Henderson says

Thank you for sharing the article on Henry Gates. I enjoyed reading it. What an interesting life! The Mediterranean sheet pan recipe sounds delicious and easy.

  15. Mary Ann Pickett says

Oh thanks for the TV mention. We just started watching the new one about the WWII pilots. I’m hoping it will get better but Howard loves it. I like spanks too…I have some black pants that I could wear everyday.

    Following Ashley now. Thanks!

  16. Nancy Lane says

A few Highpoint trips ago, my friend and I took a break a little coffee shop in the IHFC building. My friend, even though she was sitting across from me, texted me to point out that Ashley and her husband were sitting at the table next to us. I thought my friend was going to die because she completely idolizes Ashley. Normally I’m the shy one but in this case I seized the moment and blurted out “I am so sorry to bother you but my friend April adores everything you do” as April sat with her mouth open . Let me tell you Ashley is as lovely as a person as are her design projects. Beyond gorgeous inside and out.

I loved loudermilk and sincerely hope they make a season 4 of which I’ve heard rumors. Next up you should watch Fisk. Equally as entertaining and had me wanting more seasons to binge.

    Love every post Cindy. Xoxo.

  17. Karen B. says

I really like Ashley’s designs. It was fun to scroll through her Instagram page.
I’ve just started Loudermilk. Ron Livingston has always been one of my favorite actors. The jean jacket just went on my list. Thanks for the great post.
