Today I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday favorites. Do you love soup season, fall decor and sweaters? I sure do.
HEALTHY MUSHROOM SOUP
Raise your hand if you are glad it is soup season? I am a sucker for anything with mushrooms. I am making this healthy mushroom soup from Aubrey’s kitchen this week with salad for dinner.
OUTFIT OF THE WEEK
SAKS OFF FIFTH is offering extra 25% off 150 and practically all of their cashmere is included in the sale including this sweater. Banana Republic has extended their sale through today so I included this handbag. This cashmere silk scarf from Eileen Fisher is half off. I have ordered these vionic loafers, and I have these levis on order.
Someone asked last week if I would no longer be featuring less expensive options. Though I am a firm believer in buying the best you can for your budget, we can’t all shop at high end retailers. You can probably find many of the above on eBay or one of the other resale outlets. Here is a cheap chic version of the above from Zara. This sweater can be worn loose or buttoned as shown. Love the look of this! I cannot wear inexpensive shoes, but these loafers have a great look. This cashmere scarf is so reasonable, and I own and love this Vivaia crossbody which is on sale now. I shared it on Instagram last week. I love these jeans that are also from Zara.
CARLA ASTON HOW TO HIDE ARCHITECTURAL FLAWS WITH WINDOW TREATMENTS
If you want the best design tips and tricks you should follow my friend Carla Aston. Last week she penned a post on How to Hide Architectural Flaws with Window Treatments. We had a space in our former home where I used curtains to hide some issues we had in our great room. This is an old post, and the pictures are poor, but the information is good.
AGEIST RESISTANCE EXCERCISE
I really enjoy Ageists’ articles and podcasts. This article on the impact of resistance exercise on immunity is a good one.
PINE CONES AND ACORNS SOUR DOUGH PUMPKIN BREAD
If you have been reading this blog long, you know I am not a baker. This sourdough pumpkin bread looks absolutely delicious. Elizabeth has the best bread recipes!
We have had a house full of company including this little cutie who performed a fashion show for us!
Thanks for joining me for Do you Love Soup Season, Fall Decor & Sweaters. Have a great week! Let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their Sunday favorites.
I love the fun you have with Summer…shows me all the things I have to look forward to!
Hi Mary Ann
That Louisa is adorable!
Hi Cindy,
I love soup and sweater season. I understand the concern of many of your readers regarding the prices of clothing. I agree with you, buy the best you can afford and otherwise it’s pretty simple to find less expensive knock offs. I believe you do an amazing job shopping for all of us and showing a nice balance of good quality top-priced items and some of the nice less expensive options. Thank you for that.
You have great style and I enjoy the ideas you provide for putting together outfits for the season.
xo,
Karen B.
Summer is adorable. Any chance of links to what she is wearing, LOL. Reminds me of my daughter (16 now) and her fashion shows and now would like to study fashion design. I know where Summer gets her style from..
Hi Rita
Ha! I remember dressing up as a child too. I think Summer’s parents were hoping for athletics…but who knows!! We cannot pick our children’s careers!!
Thanks for the article, I’m always glad to read you!
Cindy,
Happy Fall! Thank you my friend for sharing my bread! I am sure that you are a fabulous baker!
I love soup, but not mushrooms so I will pass on that soup. This part week I made French onion soup and butternut squash soup. It is just nice to have something easy and filling in the fridge for lunch or dinner. I won’t lie, I would rather have a loaf of warm bread and butter but as I age I find that isn’t the best dinner.
Love your outfits! Both looks beautiful. I love cashmere and have found some great pieces over the years at TJMAXX and Marshalls. They might be a good option for your readers.
I think there are options for every budget and I think people have to buy what they like and what they can afford. As you mentioned a few posts ago, when you had young children you shopped on ebay and still do.
WOW, so many great tips in your old post! That was a beautiful transformation! I love everything you did from the curtains, to repurposing the ottomans, painting the cabinets, changing out the art, etc. That is a post that everyone should read.
Summer is adorable! I am sure the fashion show was lots of fun.
Have a wonderful week Cindy and thank you again.
Elizabeth
You are the best. I consider you a friend even though we have never met. I actually am not a baker.. I was in high school and college and gave it up! I love to cook but enjoy all your baked goods!
I am firm believer in consignment stores and ebay. I often find things “new with tags” at affordable prices. It just takes some digging.
Hi Kay
Exactly…and we always feel better if we find a bargain!
I’m in heaven this time of year, and yes to all soups (yours sounds delish!), sweaters and fall decor (pumpkin bread too!) Love the outfits (high/low), so perfect for fall. And who doesn’t love a great fashion show ? your little Summer just keeps getting more adorable. Great info on window treatments, and enjoyed revisiting your beautiful great room.
Hi Barb
Thank you so much. Summer is kind and generous…we are so proud of her!
I really like the loafers you have featured today but I never know what kind of socks to wear with loafers. Any recommendations?
I probably would not wear socks but Annie @mostlovelythings would wear ankle socks
Is there a link to the bread recipe? It looks yummy.
Hi Rachel
I had a lot of trouble with that link for some reason! It is fixed now. I apologize
Hi Cindy,
I love the simple outfit today. I appreciate that you so often offer ideas for finding quality pieces on sale or on sites like eBay.
I remember you saying you were going to do a post on Vivaia. Did I miss it or is it yet to come? Thank you.
I have features several of their shoes but not sure if a post is coming.
P.S. I forgot to mention I bought the Vionic lace up booties with the same lug sole, lug heel as these loafers. They are super lite weigh and not too high on the shaft. Don’t look to masculine or clunky like so many of the high end Combat booties . They go with everything. Now I’m going to check out the loafers. 😋
Thank you so much Bess! I will check them out!
Cindy, I love your blog the outfits/decor/travel places that you feature. One can easy duplicate the looks by shopping “the look” in a store with price range they personally can afford. I’ve learned you get what you pay for and as we age quality is more important than quantity, I live in FL and get jealous this time of the year not being able to wear the beautiful fall and winter clothes.
Madewell has a similar bag on sale as well. I adore your blog.
