Salt Lake City Adventures, a Charming Wedding & Daughter Time
My daughter Jenna and I traveled to Salt Lake City and Provo for a wedding of a very dear friend’s daughter. Jenna and I rarely get to spend time together (just the two of us) so I relished every minute of it. Let’s take a look at Salt Lake City Adventures, a Charming Wedding & Daughter Time.
Hotel Grand American

The pool area.

The charming coffee shop.

Outdoor dining area Laurel Restaurant

Fountain in the beautiful inner courtyard area. I am wearing wonderful (super price friendly $67) gauze dress from Nordstrom, and my comfy $66 vionic sneakers.
Salt Lake City is an hour and a half flight from San Jose. I don’t think I have been since I was a teenager. We literally spent less than a day in Salt Lake City and were unable to enjoy all of Kim’s recommendations on what to see and do. If you are traveling to Salt Lake I would highly recommend reading her post here., or Studio McGee’s Salt Lake City Travel Guide here. We had reservations at Eva’s but had to cancel since our flight was an hour late. The restaurant in the hotel (which was supposed to be very good) also closed right before we arrived so we didn’t have much of a culinary journey. We took Kim’s recommendation to stay at the Hotel Grand American and it was lovely. I was curious about the history of the hotel which you can read here.
The Charming Wedding

We have attended our share of weddings over the years. We had four at our former home, and I did wedding flowers for several years when I was a young mom. Haley and Scott’s wedding was an intimate gathering that reflected the personalities and values of the couple.

The wedding was in Lindon Utah at the Wild Oak Venue.

The bride’s brother walked her down the aisle.

The bride and her bridesmaids. The bride had her friends select their own dresses in sunset colors.

The flowers were just lovely. The bouquets and floral arrangemetns swere loose and organic, as if they were freshly picked from a nearby meadow.

The couple worked hard to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere filled with meaningful details for their family and friends.

The food was delicious and fresh.

The darling couple at dinner and cutting their cake. It was a perfect day for a special couple.
Mother Daughter Time
Steve stayed home and took care of the precocious pup and Jenna accompanied me to the wedding. We rarely get to spend time alone so I felt very fortunate that she was able to accompany me.

Outfits of the Week & The Sundance Outlet

I posted the above picture on Instagram and had so many questions about our dresses, I thought I would share them for the “outfits of the week”. Jenna’s beautiful dress came from the Sundance Outlet in Salt Lake City. Kim said it was not to be missed and boy was she right. This is a real outlet with real bargains. If you go hit the tiny super sale room fist. I foraged Jenna’s dress from a huge box filled with treasures. It is still available on the Sundance site here. Her dolce vita sandals are available here. I will share my Sundance finds in the next couple of weeks. Many of the items in the store can be found at their online outlet here.
My dress is from Lily Pulitzer (no longer available on their site) but you can purchase it here. My sandals that you have seen many times are comfortable and are from Madewell here.
Shea and Sid McGee’s Home

I thought since we are chatting about all things “Utah” you might enjoy a peek at the beautiful home of Shea and Syd McGee in Salt Lake City. You can find more photos of their home here on their website.
Thank you for reading Salt Lake City Adventures, a Charming Wedding & Daughter Time. Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for more fun.

How wonderful you two had ‘alone’ time together! I treasure those time wiht my oldest daughter that are hard and harder to grab. She has 5 kids and is very busy! Treasure those times as you well know.
Hi Cindy,
I think Salt Lake City is a great city to visit.
Haley and Scott make a handsome couple.
To have a simple wedding is a wonderful thing to do.
The bridesmaid dresses rainbow pretty.
You and Jenna look great in your dresses.
How fun to find such a cool dress hunting around in the box. It’s all about the hunt right? So special you both got to share quality time together alone.
Enjoyed seeing photos from wedding and Utah. Wonderful you had time with your daughter. Your outfits are terrific. Where did you find the black dress??? I have a wedding in Santa Cruz for grandaughter in September and looking for dress. Love your black dress.

Hi Jacqueline
I linked the dress in the text but here it is https://rstyle.me/+rJP40tEyYYajs9_bgY1U1w
Salt Lake City is a charming town. We are so lucky and we layover. At the Grand Hotel!! They have a fantastic afternoon tea as well. We always feel so spoiled because we always end up with these beautiful suites when we stay there!! Your pictures of wedding are beautiful! It looks like a perfect day.
Hi Martha
The hotel was fabulous! Kim turned us on to it! The wedding was so charming!
Loved that the couple did their day their way. Glad you had girl time with your girl. You both looked wonderful.
Hi Patricia
It was so fun being with Jenna. We are never alone together!! The wedding was one of the sweetest I have ever been to!
What a charming wedding! They kept it simple but still paid attention to details. It’s refreshing to see a low key wedding and a beautiful couple enjoying their day. I loved the flowers and the bridesmaids in their rainbow colors.
One on one time with our daughters is precious. We feel more like friends than mom and daughter(s). You’ll have to try to do it more often.
Hi Joanna
I thought the same thing. So many weddings are so impersonal and over the top. This one was very special in so many ways. Love one. on one daughter time!
Nothing is better than mother-daughter time! You both look lovely and your dresses are gorgeous.
You and your daughter looked so lovely !!
I am envious – I have 2 wonderful sons – but no daughter! The older I get, I see my friends go out to eat or go shopping with their daughters, I wish I had that!
I enjoy your blog so much!
Hi Suzanne
You are right sons are not particularly into shopping or going to lunch! You may get lucky and have a wonderful dil like me !!
Oh Cindy. What lovely wedding. I’d forgotten about Sundance. We used to stay there on our drive up to Sun Valley. Whaat style. I love the catalogue. You’re right so many creative goodies. Love your style. Ready to move in with you.
Hi Sandra
You would have died and gone to heaven at the Sundance outlet Sandra…right up your alley!
The Grand America Hotel is the only AAA Five Diamond Hotel in Salt Lake City. The property is owned by Robert Earl Holding’s family which also owned the Sinclair Oil Corporation from1975 to 2022. They also own Sun Valley Resort. Across the street from the Grand America Hotel is Little America, which came first and is beloved by the local community. Next time you and your family come to Utah you should visit all of our National Parks. We have 5: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion-collectively known as the Mighty Five. I am a transplanted New Yorker (think north of Syracuse, 30 minutes from the Canadian Border in Watertown, NY) who has lived in this beautiful state, Salt Lake City, for almost 50 years. It is a lovely place to raise a family and partake of the outdoors and all it has to offer.
Hi Cheryl
Yes we would love to do that when I retire and have time! I have heard so many good things! I read up on the Grand American so fascinating!!
Cindy, I was so focused on sharing some history of the Grand America that I forgot to comment on the wedding. I loved the picture of the bride with her bridesmaids, all dressed in different colors. And you and your daughter looked fabulous. Haley and Scott put together a low key wedding with all the right touches. The flowers, the food, the setting, simply lovely.
The wedding looked charming, especially the flowers and sunset colors used for decor and dresses. For some reason, seeing the brides’s brother walking her down the “aisle” made me a little emotional because I know there must be a story there. It was very sweet that her brother was willing to take that responsibility. I’m with you about mother-daughter time although Ali and I have turned it into friend time. Now that she’s a grown woman, we relate more that way and it’s a beautiful thing. Glad you had that special time with Jenna! Both of you have on unique dresses.
Hi Wren
The wedding was just lovely and Logan walking Haley down the isle was the icing on the cake! So touching! So much fun being with Jenna!
Daughter time is the best! You both look beautiful.
Hi Jennifer
It sure is!! Thank you!!
A great post! Chip goes to SLC all the time on business – I have never been with him, always choosing more exotic locations. Maybe next time I should go with!
I love your dress. My friend wore it on a trip to T& C in March and I admired it then. Love it.
The wedding was beautiful! Love ya. ❤️
Hi Gray
You should go…that hotel is unbelievable…The Lily Pulitzer dress is a good one. You know I have a hard time with dresses as a rule!
Thank you for sharing a sunset wedding! The bridesmaids dresses matched the floral arrangements perfectly! Isn’t it a good thing that weddings reflect the new couples style? , I’m envious of you sharing time with your lovely daughter. I’ve four daughters. I’m seeing one today in California, another Tuesday in Boise , however not much alone time.
Hi Ann
Wasn’t it a pretty wedding? Four daughters! Wow you must have had fun when they were growing up! Your poor husband ha ha!
A lovely wedding! So glad you got to spend time with your daughter. Both of you are beautiful!
Hi Dottie
Thank you so much…it was so fun!
How wonderful to spend time with Jenna! You both look so lovely. The wedding was charming…thanks for taking us along.
Hi Mary Ann
You will find that you will rarely be alone with Allie from now on! How fun that she is having a boy!
