Happy Sunday everyone. Today as usual, I am joining my pals Mary Ann and Annie for our Sunday favorites. We are having a great time in Hawaii so this will be quick. Are you looking for the perfect mother’s day gift? I am sharing some of my picks and more.
FORAGING
Style Bluprint has an interesting article on the foraging trend here. Are you brave enough to forage for food? I am all for foraging, but I am not so sure about foraging for anything that can be eaten.
THE FAIRMONT ORCHID
We have really enjoyed our time here at the Fairmont Orchid. The service has been top-notch, the grounds lovely, and the food fabulous. Highly recommend.
The view of the pool area and beach.
Love the old Hawaii architecture. The contemporary structures just aren’t as appealing to me. They look like they could be anywhere. I love those that honor their roots.
One of the many lava rock waterfalls on the property.
Another view of the beach area from the lobby.
MOTHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE
I am sorry I did not have time to do any pretty graphics this week. I wanted to try and not work all vacation. Here are some of my favorite pics for Mother’s Day. Click on the pictures if you see anything you might like.
COOKS ILLUSTRATED VEGETABLES
Raise your hand if you love Cooks Illustrated cookbooks. I don’t have many cookbooks anymore, but anything by Ina Garten or Cooks Illustrated gets my vote. I am a huge vegetable lover. Cooks Illustrated Vegetables is in my cart at Amazon! Any mom who loves to cook would love this in her arsenal.

I’m late to the comments, but I’ve had my family visiting. Three grandkids kept me busy in the best of ways.
The hotel looks so pretty.
I hope you’re relaxed and refreshed after such a wonderful vacation. I’m sure the wedding was lovely.

So happy to hear you enjoyed your time with your grandkids!!

Glad you’re enjoying your time in Hawaii, Cindy. I’ve stayed at the Orchid and it was marvelous. Foraging for food … a little scary but interesting to learn that it’s a trend. Hard to believe Mother’s Day is almost here … lots of good ideas and a cookbook is always welcome reading. My mother never cooked, but she reading was another story! Safe travels home. xo
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Juliet
I agree foraging for food is not in my wheelhouse! I can’t believe it is soon Mother’s Day either. We are skipping it until Memorial Weekend. Too much moving to do.

Cindy, Hope you had a great time in Hawaii. The Big Island is my favorite. Love the cooked vegetable cookbook idea..I need that. I hope you got to the Manta! xo
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Kim
The Big Island certainly is different. We did not make it to Manta they cancelled our reservation…long story…we did love Canoe House though and the interior of the Mauna Lani is beautiful!

Have a blast and don’t worry about us!
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Gray
I am not getting your emails again so I am missing your posts. Is anyone else having a problem?
Heidi says
Hi Cindy,
My mom always told me the dandelions in my yard were very nutritious, they would eat them in Germany when she was young.. I would roll my eyes, until none other than Martha Stewart had an article in her magazine about foraging dandelions ! So my mom won that one. But they are bitter, not my favorite. My daughter’s beloved knows a lot about plants and foraging you just need to be sure of your sources, and clean everything well.
Hawaii looks so perfect right now. You’re there before the crowds. I hope I can go back again soon!
I rarely use cookbooks but these look like good ones!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your visit to the islands, travel home safely.
Xo Heidi

Hi Heidi
I agree Dandelion Greens are bitter and I would be afraid they had just been sprayed with insecticide or something poisonous. I would never have the guts to forage for food. I rarely use cookbooks anymore but love veggies so this one is coming to my house!!

Cindy,
Hawaii looks lovely as always! Foraging for food…that makes me nervous. Flowers, yes, food, I would have to be foraging with someone I trusted! Sounds interesting though!
xx
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Annie
It was lovely and perfect weather! I am with you on the foraging topic! I would probably poison myself!

What did you wear for dinners in Hawaii?
Cindy Hattersley says
Hi Susan
I hope to get a post out next week about my trip and what I wore. It has been a busy couple of weeks. No internet on Hawaiian Airlines. I get back Tuesday night and have to drive up to the Bay Area to babysit on Wednesday.
