Peninsula Volunteers Show house… our favorite rooms

I travelled with some friends  to the Penninsula Volunteers Show house in Woodside last week.  It was a beautiful day ,  the property was lovely, and the designers did an amazing job with the home.  Peninsula Volunteers have been serving San Mateo County seniors for decades.  The show house helps this worthy organization raise funds to provide seniors with over five million annually with “lifelines and services that enhance and enrich their lives.” They have established Meals on Wheels, Rosener House Adult Day Services, Little House-The Roslyn G. Morris Activity Center, and through Peninsula Volunteers Properties provided low cost senior housing. For more information on their programs please go here www.penvol.org

 The first room that caught our eye was the porch that Sabrina Alfin skillfully created .  She used the beautiful gardens as her inspiration and created a vanishing threshold from the inside to the outside.  Adjacent to the bench is a full bank of windows which are not visible in this picture.

Indigo, Chinese red, and bright yellow-gold in textiles and accessories pop off the neutral ground of gray and white “creating an effect that is decidedly dramatic and modern, yet also classic and elegant”. At first glance these fabrics appear as a curious mix but they absolutely lit up the room!

I loved this vignette with it’s play of color and texture

Vertical Gardens anchored each side of the sitting area reinforcing the outside in theme. I adored the color on the walls and the whitewashed brick floor.  Her color scheme echoed what we are doing on our latest fixer so it was really fun to see the combination. The next room that really our group loved was the men’s bar designed by Rober W. Miller and Sindhu Peruri of Miller Design Co.  They created a “modern day speakeasy” complete with an over the top gladiator fountain that adds just the right amount of drama to the room. A peek at the before photo gives you an idea of the magic they created.

The last room on the tour was done by the master of fun himself Scot Meacham Wood. Remember when “W” was President  was dubbed the President that people would most like to share a beer with?   I want toinvite Scot to my next cocktail party don’t you? I bet he makes a mean Manhattan!

Scot pens the blog The Adventures of Tartanscot http://tartanscot.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-bridge-tournament-room.html.  If you want to enjoy a fun read with your morning coffee head on over.  Who else could take a basement and turn it into Jackie Kennedy meets Lily Pulitzer for some cocktails and bridge circa 1964?  This room was pure unadulterated fun and the perfect sendoff.
