Do you Love Comfy Clothes & Healthy Eats

Happy Sunday everyone.  Today I am joining my pals Annie, and Mary Ann for our Sunday favorites.  Do you love comfy clothes & Healthy Eats?  If so, you have come to the right place.

Okay let’s be honest this month and next are all about comfort, aren’t they?  I put together this outfit ( this is honestly what I wear most of the time) I love these sweater separates from Everlane, and my son and daughter in law got me these great Rothy slippers for my birthday.  They know what I really live in.  If you add the pretty leopard scarf from Bloomies, you are all ready for a zoom call and no one will know, you are practically in your pj’s.  Oh and a little Jo Malone can’t hurt.

JILL SHARP STUDIO ON INSTAGRAM

Those of you who are regulars here know I am a huge fan of Jill Sharp Weeks. She owns homes in Charleston and Santa Fe (two of my favorite cities in the U.S). Jill has such a relationship with nature, texture and confidence in her own inherent style. I am in constant awe of her. You can follow her on Instagram here.

ROSE TARLOW THREE HOUSES

I gifted myself Three Houses for Christmas and I cannot put it down. Three houses chronicles the “decorators decorator” Rose Tarlows homes in Santa Barbara, Provence, and Stone Canyon.

RICK BAYLESS CEVICHE

We had friends over New Years Day and one of the items I made was Rick Bayless’ Ceviche. Rick’s recipe never disappoints in my opinion. I have made others and I always return to this recipe.

EATING WELL ANTI INFLAMMATORY FOODS

I am by myself three and a half days a week. Steve will soon be retiring in February and that will change. It is so easy to eat unhealthy when you are alone. Along with trying to lose five pounds and get in better shape, I also need to eat healthier. If you have the same goals you might find this article from Eating Well helpful. It is nothing new, I know but serves as a gentle reminder.

That is it from my desk this week. If you missed any of my Sunday favorites you can catch up here. Do you have any goals for the New Year? I feel like mine are the same every year. I really do need to get in better shape, too much time in front of the computer! Any suggestions on programs, trainers or any other helpful tips will be much appreciated. In the meantime, thank you so much for being here and reading Do you love comfy clothes & healthy eats. Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their Sunday faves.

    Cindy,
I made a promise to myself to lose 5 lbs. this year. I’m not rushing it, but just changing my eating habits. I’m a little over a week and a half into it and I feel so much better. I don’t know if that is because I’ve stuck to it this long, or if losing that one pound over this first week gave me a boost. Your work out leisure wear posts have been well timed. The rain has made me want to be comfortable and warm.

Happy New Year, Cindy! I’m enjoying all this inspiration and your OOTD is what I want to live in year round. I joined a local gym last fall that offers step classes. my favorite. And we invested in a NordicTrack treadmill two years ago which makes exercising in stormy weather a lot easier. Exciting that Steve is retiring next month. xo

I just read a nutrition book I found fascinating and hopeful entitled ’Brain Maker’ by Dr. David Perlmutter. Explains a lot of things about weight gain, inflammation, even dimentia.

Hello. Your mention of Rose Tarlow’s latest book reminded me of how much I loved reading The Private House by her published in 2001. I even read it a second time. I have no idea how I came across my copy years ago, nor why it interested me so very much. I think I might have found it at some bargain price. Her name rang a bell, but I was not familiar with her style. I highly recommend it, and now I want that new book!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan

Yes, the Private House is wonderful. Rose Tarlow is in a class all by herself. You will adore the new book. It is the best design book to come along in years in my humble opinion.

Love this cute outfit!! This is chic leisure. Great idea about the anti-inflammatory foods. I try for that all the time, and seem to need it so much now after all the holiday treats! I love Rose and Jill!

      Hi Kim

We tend to eat that way “most of the time” unless we fall off the wagon! Rose and Jill are amazing…

Spot on! I have a couple of pairs of knit pants with soft sweaters to coordinate…I go for a bit more colour…like fern greens and rusts. Love the comfort and adding a scarf really does make the outfit. Very cuddly.
I discovered Pilates almost 2 years ago…wow! Totally my thing! I began local , private sessions for me to understand the machine and feel confident. I have tried classes in another studio , however I can be one of 6, so it’s not the same. A new studio is opening locally with my former instructor, so I am signing up for duet sessions asap. My core is firm, balance is better, and toning up my thighs is such a plus. As I have a twist in my lower spine ( I’m shorter on left side) my plan is to reduce the twist increasing as I am in my 70’s . Pilates, along with 3 + walks a week, and a deep water workout once a week help keep me moving. Biking in the neighbourhood is added when it’s dry out. I am lucky to live by the sea ( west coast of BC) so it’s easy to enjoy being outdoors.
I plan to dive confidently into the Caribbean in March, so more soups & salads for me. Your recipes are always good👍

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cath

Your story is spot on. I have heard that from so many others. They say one should do private first. You have reinforced what I have been thinking about. Thank you so much for weighing in.

Hardest part is to keep going. Start manageable and be very regular (almost daily). And you will see change quickly enough to keep it up.

  8. Liana says

This year I’m on a mission to address my gut health, have been taking women’s probiotics for 3 months and have already lost 1.5 inches of my waistline, my skin also has never looked better. As far as working out, there are many limitations for myself but the old fashion squats are still my favorite way to keep in shape, I do them while watching tv in between commercials and dedicate 30 min of my mornings to work on them as well ,I find that small time increments are easier to keep me accountable, That gray leopard scarf is calling my name

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Liana

You are exactly right. I used to run up and down the stairs (in our old home) multiple times a day because the stairs were right outside my office. I think your point is well taken. Baby steps sometimes rule! You are one of my hero’s Liana. You know I would love to feature you on Agless Style if you ever change your mind.

Jill Sharp Weeks is amazing! Love her posts from Sweden. She helps one see the beauty in weathered wood and stone. Patina her way. Thanks for featuring her so I can enjoy her IG account too!
I am definitely into comfy clothes this first rainy week in California and the color grey suits the weather as well. But yesterday and today will be sunny so getting into the garden for some fresh air and vitamin D. Tonight? Comfy roast with vegetables and my new slippers from Anthropologie.
    Have a great week!

      Hi Holly

I am in constant awe of Jill and her eye. It is raining cats and dogs here again today and more tomorrow! I am not complaining though.

Recipe: Walk the hood for 30-45 minutes/ day
    (but not today ☔️),
create a dedicated floor space at home for old fashioned exercises, ( stretching, yoga basics, sit ups, leg raises, etc)
get some light weights, ( dance around with them to some tunes, set a timer for 30 minutes each day, Im usually listening to audiobooks, podcasts ,etc.
The time flies by and you can impress yourself with some muscle strength & flexibility.
Low carb diet & interesting salads/ soups work best for me. It’s still not easy but we like a challenge.
Ps, I’m retired, live alone with my dog who keeps me very amused).
    We can all do it.
Enjoying your pics and ideas, thanks Cindy

You turned me on to Jill Sharp Weeks a while back and I am totally obsessed with her, her style and her lives in GA and NM! I steal many of her decor ideas.
Your snuggly outfit is adorable – on this cold and rainy Sunday morning how perfect.
During the pandemic I found Yoga with Adriene to be the BEST on line yoga program and I just started her 30 day January class CENTER on 1/1/23. I feel so strong and fit after doing Adriene’s classes consistently. I highly recommend!
Thank you for sharing decorating ideas, outfits, people, recipes, wellness etc on such regular basis.
I so look forward to your articles!

We are on the same page healthwise. And I want to make that ceviche. I ordered Suzanne Tucker’s new book but I’d love that Rose Tarlow one!

    SECOND REQUEST…
Can anyone help me out? Buried somewhere in Cindy’s Best of 2022 I discovered a list of the best flea markets (vintage) to visit. I cannot locate the article again. I thought how fun to take our motor home and tow the sports car to the markets and make mini adventures out of them. Discover a new restaurant, shops, wine! I looked on line but we know Cindy and her friends have the best ideas, right? I live on the central coast of CA,

CINDY WILL BE ABLE TO PUT HER HANDS ON IT FOR YOU!
HAVE YOU EVER COME NORTH TO ALAMEDA FLEA?THAT IS A BIG ONE!
ALSO GOAT HILL BY Santa Cruz

      • Nancy says

Thank you for some market locations. I remember a few of your suggestions are on the list I am searching for. I think perhaps the Alameda market was one we had at the Madonna Inn for years. It was fantastic. Nancy

        • Cindy Hattersley says

          Hi Nancy

The one that was at the Madonna Inn is no longer. I cannot remember the name of it. She first had it at Santa Margarita Ranch, moved it to the Madonna, and then even San Lose I believe. I am pretty sure it no longer exists.

      • Cindy Hattersley says

        Hi Nancy

In California Elizabeth is right. I am not sure about a flea market in Pasadena I am not familiar with that. There is Long Beach and the Rose Bowl that I am aware of. Here on the Central Coast there is the Speckled Hens which is two or three times a year. You can look them up. The Goat Hill fair (Santa Cruz) is a really fun one but I understand they may be looking for another location as they can no longer use the fairgrounds in Watsonville. My friends at Patine & Atelier de Campagne (Santa Cruz area) regularly have unloading events that are very good. They also participate in the Rose Bowl and Alameda markets as well as the French Market in Sonoma and there is something in Petaluma as well. If you follow Patine & Atelier de Campagne on Instagram they will keep you posted. I LOVE Round Top in Texas and can’t wait to go back. Brimfield (Mass) is fabulous, but we have not been for many years. I am hoping we will once Steve retires. Hope that helps.

  14. Gray says

Well this is proof we are twins. I have several similar outfits, I have the same slippers that I live in, from Uggs. I have those readers on my face RIGHT NOW, and….that is my favorite Jo Malone scent. So there ya go…
I would love to be in comfy clothes for two months straight, but I will be in a bathing suit soon. Yikes…..

  15. La Contessa says

I got new slippers too but yours are prettier!
    Think mine came from Costco!!
I love them.Warm inside outside easy slip on.
I did the personal trainer route for about five years maybe more! It’s fun especially if they become a friend! You can solve The Worlds problems in 60 minutes!!
    Happy New Year!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Ha!! I think I need to start out with a personal trainer or pilates individual lessons etc. I walk but that is about it. I need more at my age!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Eliz

I learned something about the Ugg slippers. You can wash them in cold water and airdry them. They come out like new. I have a pair that are more than six years old that my kids got me, an another pair that my pal Mary Ann got me several years back. I was thinking I should toss them. I took a chance and washed them. They look like new. Now I have three nice pairs.
