Tomato Suggestions

Every year it is a mystery which tomatoes do well in our garden. We always have good luck with the Sweet 100s, and the Cherokee purple. I have researched and sought the advice of others. I am planning on trying the sun gold, san marzanos. Any advice would be appreciated!

Fresh Pea, Radish and Goat Cheese Salad

Servings 8

Ingredients

  • 1 pound 4 cups fresh or frozen peas
  • ▢1 1/2 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • ▢4 tablespoons olive oil
  • ▢1/4 to 1/2 sliced red onion about 1/4 small onion
  • ▢1/4 teaspoon Aleppo pepper
  • ▢2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • ▢3-4 radishes thinly sliced
  • ▢1/4 cup packed cup mint leaves chopped
  • ▢1/4 cup chopped chives
  • ▢3 oz goat cheese crumbled
  • 3 or 4 slices turkey bacon chopped

Notes

  • Make the Dressing: Combine the olive oil  aleppo pepper and vinegar and set aside
  • Boil the peas: Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and add the peas. Cook for about 5 minutes until the peas are bright green and still have a little bite to them. You don’t want mushy, wrinkled, army green peas. You want bright green, firm but tender peas.
  • Drain the peas: Shut off the heat and drain the peas.
  • Brown the Bacon: In a medium skillet or microwave brown the bacon.Stir  Remove from heat and cool. Add the sliced radishes, onion and drained peas. Fold in the fresh mint and chives. Crumble goat cheese over the peas. Taste. Add more salt or pepper to your liking.

If you like peas I guarantee you will love this salad. I can’t wait to make it again it is that good.

Outfits of the Week

I am crazy about all of the bandana prints this season, and these looks from Madewell and everything else is 25% off during their insiders event!

Outfit of the Week-Lunch with the Girls

I took one for the team (I don’t wear navy) and ordered the bandana print dress, and shirt from Madwell (both on sale). You can see them on my body on Tuesday! I think both of these pieces are so versatile. I may keep them both! Have you heard of the Australian brand of shoes Frankie4? Several of my Australian readers have suggested I try them. I can’t wait. They are stylish and sound amazingly comfortable.

  1. You might want to try the Persimmon tomato. It’s medium large with a lovely orange coloring and a delicious taste. Also, I’ve had good luck with yellow pear cherry tomatoes; prolific and great taste. Then there is a fun one called a Currant tomato. It’s about the size of a pea. Children of all ages love that one.

    Cheers

    1. Hi Garden Goddess

I am going to check out persimmon and currant. What part of the country do you live in? Does it get quite hot?

      1. I am a bit late reading your blog this week, but am a huge Frankie 4 fan. For summer and travelling, I love the Dimity style, which is light weight and not leather. The inner sole inserts with all of the Frankies have great arch support and usually fit in other shoes as well. Some Frankie styles are a bit more stylish than others, but I hope yours are comfy. Am going to try Vivaia for my next trip in summer as I like their square toe Mary Jane’s to wear with a wider leg trouser

  2. The pic of Summer and Scout is adorable.
You both are fabulous grandparents to be present for Summer.

    1. Hi Katherine

Summer and Scout are adorable together. Our former lab Beau was absolutely obsessed with Summer and I think Scout is going to be as well. He has withdrawl after being with her.

    1. Hi Diane

I am not sure if I have tried brandywine. I love heirlooms. Does it tolerate the heat

  3. I LOVE the San Marzano tomatoes. Last year I tried the heirloom variety… but the yield was not as prolific. Growing in the upper Midwest is a crapshoot at best. I will stick with the regular San Marzano this year. They make absolutely the best pasta sauce.

    1. Hi Peggy

I bet it is challenging when to plant in the upper Midwest! Well it is here as well! I am definitely planting San Marzano!

  4. That is such a magical picture of Summer and Scout, wow just love it!! Love the post and going to do that lovely salad. Happy days Cindy xo

Cindy! Your fresh pea salad looks so yummy! Love that shirt from Madewell! And that photos of scout and summer!! So cute! When you say football…do you mean football—football? Or soccer? I’m just curious!cx

  6. Cindy!!

I’m getting up from my chair to pull out my bandanas. I adore them and will be tying my favorite red around my wrist for a bracelet. And, my darling granddaughter will be getting one in her next “care package” to play with as she approaches her finals.
    Hugs from Mercer Island,
    Diney

  7. Hi cindy, I just bought a pair of Frankie 4 white tennis shoes from Nordstrom. Super cute and comfy. They also have lots of arch support and come with some inserts.
    Mary

  8. That has to be the cutest picture of your granddaughter and (your?) dog!!!! Love it!!!

  9. Just a public service announcement – they always have fresh peas at Trader Joe’s! Such a perfect recipe this for this early spring day!
And now off to play with my scarves and bandana’s. What?! Tie one to a belt loop? Gotta try it – my husband will never understand. Hahaha!

I want to make that salad ASAP. And I always get compliments on my red Birdie ballet flats…adds some oomph to any outfit. I never knew you didn’t wear navy?
My post is all over the place too…but it’s fun that way!!!
