A Cozy Retreat, Recipes, and an Outfit you will Love

Today I am joining my pals Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday faves. We took last Sunday off, but we are glad to be back today. I have A Cozy Retreat, Recipes, and and Outfit you will Love.

A Cozy Tahoe Retreat Designed by Catherine Macfee

Tahoe has no snow (but I am sure they are getting some now), but this beautifully designed retreat by Catherine McPhee and photographed by John Merkl has me wanting to head to the mountains. How about you? You can find Catherine Macfee’s entire portfolio here. You can also follow her on Instagram here. You can find John Merkl’s portfolio here, and you can follow John Merkl on Instagram here.

Pannetonne French Toast

If you received one too many pannetonne loaves for Christmas, you might enjoy this recipe. I made it for Christmas day brunch and everyone loved it (except for me). The pannetonne that I used had chocolate chips, otherwise I would have loved it. I used this recipe from the Merchant Baker. You can make it the day before so it is a great option for Xmas day or New Years. Lauren brought a delicious quiche, and Steve grilled sausages.

I also made this Pomegranate, Persimmon salad from What’s Gaby cooking. Several people brought us persimmons so it was a great way to use the leftovers.

The Kennedy Center Honors

I don’t often catch these performances, but when I do, I really enjoy them. If you missed it you can watch it here.

Outfit of the Week

This week’s outfit of the week features a kantha jacket from Etsy (there is only one but I have linked several similar ones as well), a handbag from “Feed” (on sale), kut from the kloth jeans, a sanctuary turtleneck and a pair of earrings from Novica.

AARP The #1 exercise you should do as you get older

I don’t know about you, but I have some serious work to do in the exercise and weight department. This exercise from AARP is one we can easily incorporate into our at home routine.

Love the Tahoe retreat. It just started to rain and I’ll bet snow is soon to follow. Happy New Year! xo

Sorry to hear you’ve been battling a cold’ Hope you’re back to yourself very soon. Yes to exercise! Fires up your immune system and helps you be stronger in your day. I started doing barre classes over 8 years ago and it’s been a fantastic way to burn calories and stay strong. Post pandemic I’m doing class at home via the Exponential app.

Cindy, I hope that you feel better soon. Make sure you rest and stay hydrated. I had a cold a few weeks ago and am still coughing (especially at night) — cannot seem to shake it.

What size do you wear in the Kantha jackets? They appear to run large but, cannot really tell.

I hope your family enjoys many blessings in 2024.

    Hi Cindy,
Thank you so much for sharing the Kennedy Center Honors. I so enjoyed it and some of my living favorites. Our living favorite Barry Gibb and his brothers. We went to their very last concert. We will never forget it. Dion Warwick is a legend and of course Billy Crystal. Love them all.
Summer and her cousin are having a blast, what a great fun for the girls.
Onto YOU, I never like to hear anyone feeling under the weather. Take TLC of yourself. Hopefully you can get lots of rest.
Happy healthy everything in the New Year and thank you for everything you do.

      Hi Katherine

Thank you so much for being such a great supporter of the blog. I sure enjoyed the Kennedy Center Honors. I also enjoyed watching shorts of many of the former honorees.

I’m just over a cold. Not sure where I saw this recipe/remedy, but it felt very comforting to sip!
    3/4 c water
    3/4 c lemonade (I used a low sugar one)
    1 citrus teabag
    1 mint teabag
    1T honey
Bring water and lemonade to a simmer then turn off heat
Steep both teabags in liquid for 3 minutes
    Stir in honey
Pour into 2 mugs (or enjoy a lot of sipping!)

New Years plan: my 80 year old rock star husband has a gig. I’m joining him for an hour of dancing then the remainder of the evening with neighbors. You may like this story; last NYeve a small group of musicians with their wives who didn’t have a gig gathered together, around 8 we had plates in hand ready to enjoy the meal when the electricity went out! Our hostess loves Mexican Decor with a lot of candelabras . They were lit. The smoke alarm went off! Ladders were brought out, flashlights too. IT WAS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NYEve. It’s true, candles make a difference. Meanwhile the musicians played without electricity. Simply wonderful.

I’m sorry about your cold. Enjoy hot tea with fireball whiskey in it basking in candle 🕯️ light.

You asked about New Year plans. We are joining friends in Morro Bay for several nights, out to dinner, games and a long bicycle ride up Highway One NY Day.
Thank you for your interesting articles this year and get well soon.
