12 Stylish Ways to Rock Knitwear in your 50’s and Beyond

Today I am joining my friend Jennifer from A Well Styled Life for our montly Fashion Over 50 Edit. I have a weakness for knitwear of any kind in my wardrobe for the fall and winter months. It is cozy, comfy, and easy to style multiple ways. Let’s chat about 12 Stylish Ways to Rock Knitwear in your 50’s and Beyond.

STYLISH WAYS TO ROCK KNITWEAR AFTER 50

I started with four separates from Eileen Fisher, three cashmere sweaters from Quince, three separates from Lyssee, and two pieces from Banana Republic. I am sharing twelve ways to style these items, but they could be styled many more ways. All of these would make great travel pieces. I am sure you could mix and match these for at least a month of travel.

Let’s start with the Eileen Fisher staples. Here I am wearing three of the four pieces, the fine merino jersey crew (XXS) (think of it as a winter tee with great shape), the merino slim pencil skirt, (XXS) and fine merino jersey poncho. Every one of these pieces are beautifully made and timeless. My belt and jewelry are Native American that I have owned for many years.

In this classic look I am styling the poncho with the boiled wool trousers (PP) , a Quince cashmere batwing sweater (M) (which is excellent quality by the way), and a new pair of Artemis Slippers (my go to for artistic footwear).

My Libeco Linen throw makes a cozy wrap for extra warmth in the winter months. I am wearing it with the same Eileen Fisher skirt, and the Quince cashmere sweater. Under the Quince sweater is a tissue weight merino turtleneck from Banana Republic. This is a must have layering piece. I purchased it on sale. The boots are Pedro Garcia and no longer available. I have linked similar below the photo. Accessories are from my collection of Native American Jewelry.

Here I am wearing the fabulous quilted jacket from Lysse (S) with the Eileen Fisher skirt and merino tee. Remember to use the code CINDY20 when ordering from Lysse. This jacket looks fabulous with their faux leather pants (below) as well.

Here I am wearing the Lysee faux leather pants (M) with their blanket stitch wrap. This wrap would be another great travel option. It can be dressed up or down. Here I am styling it with the Quince v-neck cashmere sweater (FYI I ordered an XL because I wanted it large). I probably could have worn the large as well. If you don’t want it oversized order your regular size.

I also love the aimee vegan leather pant from Lysse. Their pants are super comfortable. Again,I am wearing the quince cashmere v-neck. My necklace was an anniverary gift from Steve several years ago.

These next two pieces were purchased during Banana Republic’s sale. They are really high quality and work well with all of the above pieces. I am wearing the skirt and polo with my favorite combat boots. The skirt has a very flattering silhouette. I added tights for extra warmth.

Here is the cozy Quince v-neck again with a scarf, the BP skirt, and combat boots. You could also wear a sleeker pair of high boots for a more classic look.

In this photo I am wearing the two Banana Republic separates as a sweater dress. In my opinion two pieces are much more versatile than a dress. This dress hugs the curves without being too body conscious. I accessorized it with the only boots with a heel I have ever worn comfortably from Vivaia. The handbag is also from Vivaia.

I really like the mustard/grey combination in this look. I accessorized the mustard batwing sweater from Quincethe with the BR skirt, a leopard scarf and a great MZ Wallace bag. This bag is a nice size. It is roomier that most of the bags this style.

This Anthro sweater looks great with jeans as well as this skirt. If it were chilly you could add another layer and add the EF wrap. I am wearing it with combat boots. You could easily wear it with a pair of high boots or booties as well.

I love those gray pieces from BR, but cannot wear merino wool. Too itchy for me and it now doesn’t get cold often enough here to buy it. You look so great in them!

Love this post! Would you please tell the brand of the jacket that you are wearing with the Lysee faux leather pants. Your post said it is a wrap, but it looks like a jacket.
    Thank you.

Hi Starr if you click on the words blanket stitch wrap in the description it will take you there. Lysee calls it a wrap. Be sure to use the link and code Cindy20 for 30%off

Beautiful looks Cindy you for the inspiration. That mustard sweater and the grey are so lovely together!

I made an offer on the Rag & Bone bag. It’s exactly what I need. And I love buying second hand. I have purchased purses on consignment before and it’s a win win. Better for my budget as an artist but also appreciate your suggestions for something more unique. Good post Cindy. Hoping they take my offer!!! 👜

Yippee! I would rather buy a used purse and a used pair of shoes! Call me crazy…they are broken in and they are more price-friendly!

I carry that bag all the time. It isn’t so teeny like some of them. FYI I bought mine on eBay several years ago!

      • Leslie says

I also kind of like the game of it. Will they take my offer. And with certain brands I can resell them if I tire of them.

  8. Dianne says

super cute! Every outfit is adorable on you! Now… if only the weather would take a dip instead of getting warmer.

  9. Wren says

Many looks from few pieces. As you said, a great travel wardrobe. I see you now have a new niche where you can stand for your photos!

  10. Bette says

Ah, yes. The time of year when I start feeling lonely and left out — because I can’t wear wool, LOL! I would like to challenge you to do a post on currently available, fall and winter attire in … cotton! It’s almost impossible. I did purchase an EF thick cotton cardigan that will be my go-to, but I’d love to see more options, esp as the cardi is only available in one color — black. Sad face!.

  11. Denise says

I just love your style so much! I always get great ideas from your posts. Thank you all the great combination ideas today! Very very beautiful.

  12. Jennifer says

You look simply fabulous!! I love how you’re styling these pieces. I always get the best ideas from you.
