What does Schuyler Samperton, Johnny Was & Healthy Aging Have in Common?
What do Schuyler Samperton, Johnny Was, and healthy aging have in common? Absolutely nothing! It simply means it’s Sunday and it is time for a little fun with Mary Ann and Annie. So grab your coffee, settle in, and let’s dive right in!!
Schuyler Samperton Brentwood Cottage Project
This project by the uber-talented Shuyler Samperton was featured in House Beautiful (photographed by Victoria Pearson) over a decade ago, proves that great design truly stands the test of time. Eleven years later, it still feels fresh, collected, and personal. The layered textures, the curated mix of pattern and color, and that lived-in, collected charm remind us that when a home reflects the people who live in it rather than the latest trend, it never goes out of style.

I have a feeling Schuyler’s clients are grateful she didn’t go the trendy route with a sputnik fixture or some other trendy piece that would have dated the design long ago. I love the addition of the chartreuse curtains. The pop of color sets the tone for the room.

Always love a twin bedroom…I am guessing the pillows are made from a vintage fabric. Note how the fabric picks up all of the colors in the bedroom.

What Workout Matches your Personality
I was turned on to Nice News by Cindy LaFerle, a reader and author of Cindy LaFerle’s Lifelines. If you don’t follow Cindy’s Lifelines, I highly recommend that you do. This article regarding personality traits and workout types is pretty interesting. I am anxious to hear your thoughts.
25 Dinners for Healthy Aging
I am adding a few of these dinners including this black bean enchilada skillet to my rotation this week.

Outfits of the Week
With my Outfits of the Week, my goal is always to show you how to get the most mileage out of your wardrobe by styling one piece in multiple ways, whether it’s something you already own or, in this case, a special splurge from Johnny Was. I never invest in an item unless I know it will work hard for me. I’ve been a longtime fan of Johnny Was, and this sweater (a style I’ve loved for years) completely stole my heart all over again.

I have to be honest, this look would be my go to. The fabulous Johnny Was sweater, Alex Mill or J Crew shirt, Frame jeans, Gentle Souls booties, Amy Kesterberg bag, Overland Sheepskin hat and Native American earrings.
Shop Statement Sweater Casual Look

This is a more dressed up version with the Ann Taylor faux leather skirt that I featured here, and a J Crew short sleeve cashmere tee.
Shop the Leather Skirt Look

This gorgeous sweater could easily transition into the holidays with, velvet pants, and shirt from Boden, great velvet ballet flats, a wonderful rhinestone brooch from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a simple rhinestone bag. If you love a piece like this sweater, and can wear it multiple ways ( I would) don’t be afraid of the price. Think price per wear.

These faux leather red pants from J Crew are soooo fun! Add a pair of velvet birdies, a pretty brooch and they will take you out to dinner!

Ina Garten’s Bon Jour from her Favorite City in the World
It seems everyone is obsessed with all things French these days, but I’m pretty sure Ina has the inside scoop on the best spots to visit and where to eat in her favorite city in the world here.

Hi Mary
I love that shirt too! I wear it all the time!
Wonderful post thank you Cindy! Those twin beds make me happy I love a house full to the brim.
That twin bedroom! I have such a soft spot for twin rooms! And your outfit of the week…the jacket! LOVE!
xx
Lovely post!
That sweater reminds of one I didn’t 😢 buy in Norway at Oceania!
Cindy! Love Schyuler Samperton’s style and this beautiful cottage. The twin bedroom with the gorgeous bamboo beds and floral wallpaper is a stunner. Thanks for the dinner recipe ideas … I’m going to put the enchilada skillet on my menu this week too. xo
Hi Cindy—
Love Schuyler’s style! You are so right about it being fresh today. I try to furnish all my rooms that way. It’s so much more cost effective as you can add or subtract from a room as the feeling hits but trendiness does not force you to change anything.
Thanks for featuring Schuyler’s style. I remember that article too! I love her mix of color and patterns. Have a lovely weekend!
Love this post! The colorful decor, the Johnny Was reminders (haven’t shopped them in quite a while), the black bean recipe and the Ina Garten reminder. And it gave me an “ah ha!” moment. My house is full of color and while my wardrobe used to be, in terms of purchases in recent years, not so much. Dawned on me it might be because my house is big (4000 sq ft) so it can take all the color. And I am small 5’1”, 107 lbs. Until few years ago, I wore a lot of color, fuchsia has been a favorite for 40 years. But my coloring has faded (my skin tone, not my hair) and these days, to wear brights or strong patterns, I need to put on more makeup.
That fabulous jacket is sold out or unavailable on your link. But available on http://www.johnnywas.com. I have one similar in grays and blues that I purchased on 50% off sale a few years ago. It’s one of my favorite things in my wardrobe. I’m sorely truly tempted to get this one!!! Goes with so much! And works over dresses and tunics. It’s a year round piece here and even looks great with knee boots. When I wear it people always ask me where I got it.
