The Australian Countryside, a Fresh Salad & More

Author Jenny Rose Innes on Instagram

Happy Sunday! I caught a nasty cold from darling Summer but am on the mend today! It has been hotter than blazes here so we haven’t strayed from the house. Cooling is on the horizon! Yippee! Let’s chat about The Australian Countryside, a Fresh Salad & More today.

Australian Designer and author Jenny Rose Innes is the author of two wonderful books Australian Designers at Home, and British Designers at Home. Her Instagram account chronicles the development of her new home and gardens. . I am hoping she will write another book chronicling the same. When she sold her beautiful property. You can see her former home here on my Sunday favorites here, I was saddened that she was selling because the house and grounds were so beautiful. You will enjoy seeing how she has made her new home and property look as if it has been there forever.

Would you ever guess this home is a new build?

Beautiful fresh from the garden bouquet.

Charming sitting room of her home.

Outfit of the Week

I think this outfit would be right at home in Jenny’s beautiful home, don’t you?

I love a great Kantha jacket and Etsy has some great ones. I love pairing a kantha jacket with jeans, a chambray shirt, booties and a great bag.

Last of the Tomatoes Salad

Lauren tried this simple Dumpling Tomato Salad from Style at a Certain Age last week and said it was delicious. We are eating the last of our heirloom tomatoes so I am making it tomorrow! It is a variation of the NY Times recipe.

Two of my Favorite Bloggers are Back!

Juliet from Make Mine a Spritzer took the month of August off but she is back with a fun report on what she has been up to. Katie from Preppy Empty Nester takes the whole summer off, but she is back with her usual humor and anecdotes. Kim from Northern California Style will be back next week and we will curate our fall wish lists!

  1. Another great Sunday Fab 5! Love that Juliet and Katie are back, they are 2 of my favorites as well.
The house is beautiful! Country Style is a beautiful magazine, Jeanne of Collage of Life sent me a copy about 13 years ago and I have been hooked ever since. I too subscribe digitally.
I second and 3rd the RW Williams Boots, my husband has had 2 pairs over the last 35 years and loves them, he has walked thousands of miles in Scotland, London, Paris, Belgium, Africa, NY and every other vacation we have taken in those boots and loves them.
    Have a wonderful week Cindy!

  2. Hello Cindy,
Loved this post. I also fell in love with the picture of the sandpipers in your friend’s “Charming sitting room”. I going out on a limb to ask if she purchased that picture on line or ? I would love to have that picture in my bedroom.
    Thank you for any information!
    Marcella

    1. Hi Marcella

Unfortunately, I do not know Jenny, although I would love to meet her. I am guessing that sandpiper is a painting.

  3. Hi again! This is an update to my previous comment – the Kantha jacket is back in stock! Etsy notified me this morning and I just purchased it! So excited- thanks!

  4. I’ve had great luck with Etsy (thanks in part to your recommendations). Super cute outfit for fall! It’s been cool (and lovely) here for a few days, but summer is returning for the next couple of weeks. Ready for fall! Feel better !

  5. Before I saw the headline, I saw the pic and thought ‘Gosh that looks like an Australian country house!’ Bingo!
We have a beautiful magazine here in Australia called Country Style (I’ve been buying it since it began a quazillion years ago) and it features the best in Australian country styling and home beauty that you can imagine, accompanied by inspiring stories of the home owners’ journeys through life. I can recommend it.
And as a country (and coastal) home owner and wife of a farmer, I can say enthusiastically that yes, your jeans, boots and Kantha jacket would go down a treat if you visited an Australian country house. But then honestly, most of what you wear would fit in – I’m always envious of your jackets, hats, glasses and shoes! Almost everything really!

    1. Hi Prue

I am a bit obsessed with Australian style in general. I am going to subscribe to Country Style digitally. I love that magazine! Australia is on my bucket list!!

      1. Hi Cindy. There is an iconic Australian brand of clothing called R.M Williams (Bill Clinton was gifted a pair of their hand made boots back in the 1990s). I thought Jenny Rose Innes house very stylish, but when I saw the lush green gardens, knew it was located near Sydney (Bowral, I think – the home of Australia’s most famous cricketer, Sir Donald Bradman) As the daughter of a farming family, my idea of ‘country’ is the wheat and sheep land of South Australia. Stone houses, bore water, minimal gardens and a plethora of poisonous snakes. I am new to your blog, but am very taken by your incredible style

        1. Hi Susan

Thank you for the introduction to RM Williams. I see some of their boots come in wide widths (I have a bunion on one foot so it can be limiting). Poisonous snakes eeek! Thank you for your kind words and following along!

  6. Hi Cindy,
FYI – jacket is sold out but there is a waitlist. Would love to see more clothes please! And places that have extended sizing. Can find decorating inspiration all over but you have such a great fashion sense that’s unique so your fashion posts are important. Love your selections! Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Fran

I know you fashion peeps would like for me to give up design altogether but I just can’t. I love a collected look in the home and my wardrobe and I will continue to try and have a balance. I appreciate your support. I am like the “accidental icon” only she is famous. I am so far from being an expert on anything. I look at fashion like I look at decorating with a “collected eye”. At our age we should feel confident to express our own style in our home and on our bodies! It goes hand in hand. I appreciate you all so much. That is why I love what I do.

  7. Hi Cindy,
I love the Kantha jacket. I’ve shopped on the Etsy site that carries these versatile jackets. If the darn heat will leave us, I could get interested in buying one. Haha.
I own the book, Australian Designers at Home, Jenny Rose Innes. It’s wonderful. I didn’t realize she has a second book. I’ll have to check it out.
Enjoy your Sunday and continue recovery from your cold.
    xo,
    Karen B.

    1. Hi Karen

Thank you so much! It sure has been hot! Cooling off 20 degrees tomorrow supposedly!

  8. Good morning, Cindy and thanks for the shout-out. It’s great to be back at it. I always love reading your Sunday morning dispatches, along with Mary Ann and Annie … you ladies, of course, inspired Kim, Elizabeth and me. Jenny Rose Innes … how do I love her, let me count the ways. To be transported into her homes and gardens is a dreamy way to spend a Sunday. Lauren’s tomato and dumplings recipe looks delish. Our tomatoes still haven’t ripen. Even in this dreadfully hot weather. It’s a mystery. Happy Sunday! xo

    1. Hi Juliet

That is really interesting that your tomatoes haven’t ripened. Did you plant them or did the people that planted your garden plant them?

  9. Well…not to rub it in but the weather in Paris is delightful…even when it rains a little. That would be my dream to go the garden and create a bouquet like hers.
Your outfits always knock it out of the park!!!

  10. Thankyou for another fun Sunday read. Curious if you have favourite go to Etsy vendors that never disappoint. I remember a pretty blue and white dress you purchased but was never able to find it again. Feel better.

    1. Hi Deborah

I use different Etsy vendors all the time. There are a few that I like for home decor items. Maybe I need to do a post!

  11. Lovely post thank you Cindy! I am staying inside in this awful heat in California watching Netflix “The Perfect Marriage” highly recommend! Take care.

  12. Question on the kantha jacket – do you size down? was looking at the measurements and it seems like it runs very large…

    1. Hi Janet

All Etsy sellers are different. I would go by the measurements. Contact the seller if you are unsure. They are usually very helpful with any questions.
