Sunday Favorites-Valentines, My Family Room and More

Happy Sunday Everyone!  It’s a beautiful day here on the Central Coast and I am planning on working in the yard until the football game.  Every Sunday Mary Ann, Annie and I share our favorites.  This week it’s all about the color red.  I am sharing pillow ideas for my family room, a pretty tablescape, a great shrimp taco recipe and more.  Welcome to Sunday Favorites-Valentines, My Family Room and More.

Since we have been spending so much time at home, I am really tired of the pillows in my family room and my tv room.  Today I am sharing the inspiration board for my ideas.  I will share all the sources in a post when the room is updated.  I thought you might enjoy a little eye candy while you wait.

PINCH OF YUM SHRIMP TACOS WITH GARLIC CILANTRO LIME SLAW

I made these last week.  I actually used a combination of scallops and shrimp (from Trader Joe’s).  The slaw is absolutely delicious.  I made it with yogurt so it was Weight Watchers friendly. Everyone loved them.  You can find the recipe here

THE MEWS ON INSTAGRAM

Do you follow the Mews on Instagram.  If you want to get into a lot of trouble you might want to give them a follow.  They hand handpicked handcrafted fabrics, furnishings and homewares from Europe.  There is tons of inspiration here including this gorgeous tablescape that might give you some valentine ideas.

VALENTINES GIFTS FOR HER

We usually start to see Spring peek its head out about mid-February when all the nurseries start bringing in Spring plants.  However, I know most of you are still freezing.  I put together two outfits of the week this week.  This one is for the East Coast.  I love these Madewell Ainsworth jeans, they are my go tos.  Jo Malone has a new scent called poppy.  My favorite is lime basil and mandarin, but they are all wonderful.  You know I am a big fan of the Artemis loafers and slides.  I wear the slides because of my bunion. OPI  Big Red Apple looks like a fun red. The votivo red current candle is a favorite and so much more reasonable than most. I absolutely love the Chanel Le Rouge Duo in bright raspberry.  It stays on with a mask and doesn’t dry out like most long-wear lippies. Love these earrings from Sundance they are dainty but with a big color punch.  I have a similar pair. Sundance makes the best turtlenecks that don’t wear out and this one is no exception with pretty detailing. I would love a pair of red Wayfarers how about you?

Are you watching the big game today?  We are having our kids over for a quiet evening.  I will share the recipe next week.  On Tuesday I will be joining Jennifer for our fashion edit, and Thursday we have a kitchen styling project design post for you!

    Hi Cindy,
You showed a dress that I loved on you that was a medium gray in color that you wore with black leggings that was from Anthropologie or maybe Sundance. I wanted to take another look see at it, maybe it’s on sale today.

Red is always a favorite of mine and I like the fabrics who are thinking about. And, as always, love the additions of texture. Glad you can garden. Mine is under snow and just to make sure it’s winter this week, a crunchy layer of ice!!!! The first covid shot experience was smooth! Not painful. Whole thing very organized: moving through a series of open ended tents, kinda’ like getting a car wash without water. Was given a time/date for 3 week follow up. That’s when the system can blow up!Hope you had a lovely Sunday.

Cindy, Really was enjoyment this post and all your pretty red things! Cindy you would look terrific in the red Wayfarers! You need those. I also had the Joe Malone scent on mine! I will check out The Mews. I love all those pillows and can’t wait to see your family room’s new look. Some gorgeous things. Hope the day was nice gardening. I cannot believe the beautiful weather this year. Thanks again Cindy for the mention. So kind of you! xo Kim

    Cindy,
There are so many favorites in this post. My Jo Malone go to is Amber Lavender, but I’m always looking for new additions to the wonderful collection. I love the Artemis loafers and will be looking into those.
It’s always fun to make little changes to a room and pillows are one of the best ways.
I hope you have a lovely week and fun with your family on Valentine’s.
    xo,
    Karen

Red is my favorite color. Perhaps you can help me find a small flat weave rug that would coordinate with the textiles you featured today…all the colors of my den and the rug is now a RAG! Thanks for your help or suggestions.

    Hi Cindy,
Love all the fun things here. Looking forward to seeing how you restyle your family room. New pillows can really make such a difference!
Red is not really my color, except in lipstick! I have a drawer full, good grief, why so many? I’ll look for the Chanel next time I venture out, I have some in a tube but not the wand. I’m allergic to shellfish, but I do love a good fish taco! ( had a couple on Friday as a matter of fact!) I’ll check out that recipe and see how I can substitute cod or some other white fish.
Hope you have a great week! Take care, stay safe and healthy.
    Xo Heidi

I love the shrimp taco recipe and have saved it for future use. It will be prefect for warmer weather (what am I even saying? It’s already the warmest winter we’ve ever had with temperatures of 22C for several days these past 2 months. It makes me weep as I love rain and storms).
You’ve shared some fun suggestions for Valentine’s day. We don’t really celebrate it but I can always get a gift for myself. A new scent or a bright red lippy sound like the perfect pick-me-up.

Lovely post Cindy thank you for the sunshine. Happy game day! I will definitely make those shrimp tacos they look amazing and Ilike the instagram post you mentioned. I used to go Piggott’s store in Sydney. Love your style!

OK, checking out the Mews. Looking forward to the recipe. I always look forward to your Sunday 5. Must look into that turtle neck. My go to red nail polish is CV by @Olive&June. I’ve also discovered that I like some orange in my red lipstick. Who knew. Always enjoy your posts!

Love your suggestions today. I have that Chanel lip gloss and love it.
Ever since this shut down I am drawn more and more to red. Cheerful color.
    I am checking out Mews.

Love this post! Your Family Room inspiration board caught my eye immediately. My husband’s at-home office has been these colors for years (20?)- doesn’t matter the house, those are his colors. They move when we do – and we move frequently.. Like yours, his features batiks, ikats, suzani’s, natural fibers – all picked up and brought back from various trips to Turkey, Morocco and etc.. It’s a great look, and we have never, ever tired of it. Always fun to mix-up with something new. We call it his “bazaar”, rather than “office”.

Cindy, Thanks for the Valentine’s Day inspiration. I need to find a fun nail color to wear at our very small VD Dinner party on Saturday night so I will look for the OPI color. Also, I do not follow the Mews so thanks for that tip. Well, I am not watching the game. This year I am giving up the news and professional sports and I am surprised how much it has opened up my life to more creative and meaningful time. Will probably do some painting this afternoon and finish up a still life I’ve started. Love the recipe too~sounds like you are eating well! Happy Sunday!
