Summer Salad, Outfit of the Week & More

Hi Everyone! Welcome to our Sunday Favorites.  Mary Ann (Classic Casual Home), Annie (Most Lovely Things), and I share our favorites right here every Sunday. Let’s take a look at Summer Salad, Outfit of the Week & More

Summer Salad, Outfit of the Week & More

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

I think we are still going to be wearing comfortable clothes this winter with the Delta variant still lingering. This outfit is comfy but stylish. J Crew has some great items on sale.  Unfortunately this rollneck cashmere sweater is not. The wide-leg sweater pants (some in several colors) are. I have been hearing ballet flats are back.  Love these from Rothy’s and adore the bag. I finished off the outfit of the Week with some accessories from Etsy. All items are linked below the graphic.

CASHMERE CARE

Now that it is sweater season again.  It is time to think about how to take care of our cashmere sweaters. In our move, I had to throw out nearly every cashmere sweater and scarf that I owned.  While packed they became infested with moths.  I love Cashmere but the thought of that happening again is heartbreaking! I came across this article from  Apartment Therapy How to Get Rid of and Prevent Moth Infestation. I also consulted my essential oil guru,  and here is what Annie came up with.  I am going to give this a try! I love the scent, and they are nontoxic.

SUMMER’S OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

We have had Summer and her mom here for a couple of days while her daddy was attending a family celebration in San Diego.  When I was checking out the sales I noticed this darling leopard top at J Crew.  I normally don’t buy kids clothes at J Crew (they are a little pricey) but with the 40% off sale, you might want to grab a few items for your granddaughter! Did you know that Target carries See Kai Run shoes for kids?  My daughter bought the shoes included in the outfit of the week in gold.  Summer has wide feet so most shoes don’t fit her properly.  See Kai Run at Target is a win-win! They are about $20 cheaper.

SHOP SUMMER’S OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

I intended to make this Tomato Peach Burrata Salad (from Two Peas and Their Pod), a summer favorite, last night with homemade pizzas.  However, we had a little excitement at our home.  Our cat “Furrie” (we gave her a unique spelling since she ended up with a name like that)  disappeared and we feared she was gone.  She had jumped the fence (to escape my daughter’s dog and last night about dush jumped back over.  We did make pizzas but the salad didn’t happen.

I have two tips about moths and cashmere (or any wool.) Put your wool item (new or used) in a zip lock bag and place in your freezer for a week to kill any moths or eggs on the item. Then store the garment in a zip lock bag.

I’ve also had issues with moths in the past and, so far, this is working for me. The sachets are also a nice touch, one can never do too much to eradicate or repel the moths. I have just ordered Dr. Killigan’s Premium Clothing Moth Traps with Pheromones Prime that Leslie suggested just to be extra safe! Yikes!

So sorry to hear of your moth damage. They are a menace so I will try the sachets along with you! Love the Outfit of the Week, and yes, perfect for the Delta phase of the Covid era. Honestly, I don’t mind staying home longer now that I am updating our decor which is a hybrid of Jane Adler (It’s Complicated)/Cindy Hattersley (Fixer Upper) inspiration! Have a great holiday weekend!!!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Holly

Awww you flatter me!! I am so glad you are enjoying your own “fixer upper”. I don’t mind staying home either, just maybe not quite so much ha ha!!

  4. Wren says

Sad about those darn moths and the damage to your cashmere. Annie’s sachets to the rescue for future sweaters and scarves.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Wren

I think Leslie has a great idea as well. I love cashmere but throwing it away is not fun

  5. Leslie says

I had a similar issue a year ago with my cashmere sweaters. An awful tragedy. I’ve taken many of the steps you’ve mentioned. One thing I’ve added to the Arsenal are moth traps. They come flat and fold up like a tent. Inside is a sticky surface with moth pheromones. There is no odor detectable by humans. You can set them inside closets and cupboards. If you start to see dead ones in there it’s time to up the war. They can be ordered online but some hardware and home stores carry them. I was shocked at how many were in the traps after just a couple of days. These traps work in pantries also.

    • Cheryl P says

I have purchased these as well and amazed at what they catch. Just toss when you get disgusted at how many you have caught lol!
