Rustic Mountain Home Tour, Stylish Outfits for a Mountain Getaway & More
Simple Dinner with Friends
We love to entertain, though most of our gatherings are relaxed and low-key. Recently, we celebrated our wonderful neighbors (active vibrant and newly 75) by hosting a simple dinner in their honor. We kept it intimate, inviting them and their closest friends for an evening filled with good food, laughter, and great company

I have tried several different bolognese recipes, but I think this one from Tyler Florence is my favorite maybe not as traditional as some but with more vegetables which we like.

We accompanied it with Ina Garten’s Heirloom Bleu Cheese Tomato Salad, and great local gelato from local purveyor Leo Leo Gelato.
Sandra Sallin does Martha Stewart
This one is a hoot whether you love Martha or “not so much”. Sandra tries Martha’s makeup routine. Watch it here, you will love it!!
A Textural Mountain Home in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles
I have been a long time subscriber of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles. This Highlands home from Beth Meyer Design featured in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles is wonderful. Every detail is well thought out (and beautifully photographed by Rustic White). It ticks all of my boxes, rustic beams, interesting stonework, with fabrics and accessories that complement nature.

I could move right in to this home and be perfectly happy!

I don’t know what the natural stone of this area is called but I LOVE it, and how the local architects and designers embrace it.

I love an oversized pendant ( I think this one is Jeffrey Alan Marks for Palacek) in a natural texture like seagrass.
Ageist with Lucy Standing
There is so much good stuff on Ageist and this interview with Lucy Standing, Brave, Bold and no BS. is one of the best.
Outfits of the Week
I hope I didn’t ruffle any feathers by sending out the email about the Banana Republic sale. They aren’t sponsoring me. I just happen to think their pieces are especially good this fall (so Ralph Lauren–esque). Pieces were already selling out before I even got my post up on Thursday, so clearly, I wasn’t the only one who thought they were too good to miss.

I have to admit, I’m not usually a fan of the “chore jackets” that are everywhere right now. I love the look on others, but they’re not the most flattering on me. This one from Banana Republic won me over, though. It comes in a cheerful yellow and a classic olive green. I styled it with Ariat cowboy boots, striking Native American earrings, my favorite Frame jeans, a chambray shirt from J.Crew Factory, and a great Madewell bag for a little extra personality.

I ordered this red block print shirt (I shared the companion dress in my post on Thursday) and styled it with the same Frame jeans, comfortable Ariat cowboy boots, a Madewell bag and turquoise earrings (many from the same artist here).
Thank you for reading Rustic Mountain Home Tour and Stylish Outfits for a Mountain Getaway. If you have missed any of my Sunday favorites, you can catch up here. Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie who are both travelling in Europe! What do you have planned for today?

Am loving the post. So many great ideas. The meal looks delish: something you’d want to tuck into with a great glass of wine and good friends or if you’re lucky, good wine and great friends. Must say that the kitchen that was featured in Atlanta Homes went into my Pinterest file for future use. Have been a subscriber for many years as the homes are so beautiful. It’s funny, I am drawn to a photo and then realize it’s from Atlanta Homes 🙂
Cindy—the home you are featuring is so beautiful with the exposed stone.
I love a barn jacket! I have my Barbour jackets from 20+ years ago and still wear them, but I do love the more cropped version right now too!
Your dinner looks amazing! And you certainly have the home for entertaining!!
Xo
That bolognese dish is making me hungry. It looks amazing!
I found out I was at day 29 for the item I told you I wanted to return so I did just make it under the wire- happy about that! I went to BR and bought their ivory blazer instead that I think will be better for me. The dresses in the store are interesting but I’m not a dress person usually so probably will leave them for others to get the 40% off.
Hi Wren
Dresses aren’t my favorite either. I am so glad you were able to return yippee!! Banana’s stuff is so nice right now. We are on our way up to babysit Summer so I plan to stop in the Walnut Creek store!!
As the happy 75 year old recipient of Cindy and Steve’s wonderful hospitality and Cindy’s amazing cooking, the dinner was just as delicious as the photo portrayed. All those tomatoes came from their garden and were bursting with flavor. The pasta bolognese was perfect with pasta from Etto! The topper of the evening was that Cindy lit one of her granddaughter’s sparklers to put in our gelato dishes. Quite a “sparkling” end to a wonderful evening and special celebration.
Thanks again, Cindy!
Freddy!!
Thank you so much for chiming in!! Freddy is my wonderful neighbor and friend! I took a video of the sparkler event but couldn’t post it here!!
Happy Sunday Cindy! Lovely post thank you, that recipe looks perfect for tonight!
That Sandra Sallin! I just love her , not sure she was 100% sold on Martha’s ‘look’ but loved how she commented at the end ‘ that it’s fun to try new things and look like different people’ what a great attitude, Sandra will be forever young! Also nice to hear her comments about the makeup she was using.
Cindy What a great dinner ! Your food always looks amazing. Love those pendant and the bits of greens and stone walls.
Both outfits are great . I think the BR sale is a smart time to get their gorgeous things! They’ve really done well with luxe basics.
Hope you have a great weekend!

LOVE the mix of antiques in the mountain home.
I have always wanted a chore or barn jacket but they are usually not in my colors but Old Navy has a pink one that is less than $40 and it’s adorable!
Hi Nancy
Oh my goodness, I will check that one out! I love Old Navy!
I love that Highlands home. We have been there several times and the homes on the mountain are stunning. What a place to unwind!
Love the barn jacket – I have mine from college from LL Bean! I still wear it.
Hi Gray
You must be a pack rat like me!!
