Five Things Making me Happy this Week
Some weeks hand you a big milestone. This one handed me a stack of small, genuinely good things , the kind that don’t make headlines but make a life. Here’s what’s got me smiling as I write this.
Summer for a Week
This is the one that actually matters. Summer is here for a full week, and the house already sounds different. It’s louder, better, a little more chaotic in the good way. Scout hasn’t left her side. I keep catching myself just watching her do ordinary things, eat cereal, chase Scout around the garden, and thinking, this is the whole point of this chapter. I’m not getting a single thing done and I could not care less.

My Upcoming Interview with Jeffrey Dungan
If you’ve been around here a while, you already know: I’m a devoted Jeffrey Dungan fan. So when he agreed to sit down with me to talk about his new book, The Soulful House, I may have done a small happy dance in my kitchen. Be here Tuesday for that!!

Camila Mcconaughey’s Viral Avocado Bread
I am not a woman who chases viral recipes, but this one got me. Camila Mcconaughey’s avocado bread has been all over my feed, and I finally made it this week. It’s the kind of recipe that looks effortless and healthy and actually is. If you’ve been seeing it everywhere too, consider this your permission to stop scrolling past it and just make the thing.

Outfits of the Week
Leave it to Zara to find the one piece that solves the August-into-September problem every single year. If you loved the Veronica Beard Kiki Eyelet Jacket but hated the price you will love these two price-friendly olive eyelet embroidered pieces from Zara that you can wear now or wear later in the fall.

Mel Robbins Interview with Longevity Expert Dr. Joseph Coughlin
That’s the week, an interview I’ve been looking forward to for months, a granddaughter who makes the house feel full, a recipe worth the hype, an outfit that’ll earn its keep for two seasons, and a little more clarity on how to live well for a long time. Not a bad list….
What’s making you happy this week?
Now let’s pop over and visit Mary Ann and Annie for their Sunday faves!

Cindy. Thank you for the Dr. Coughlin interview. It was so informative!
Can you please share the link to the orange top you are wearing with the Lands End white palazzo pants? The color looks so good with your hair and the white pants!

Cindy! How fun to have Summer for a whole week! What a darling photo! I have not heard of avocado bread…But I am sure tempted to try it! Love your outfits of the week!

Thanks Annie!
That picture of Summer is precious! I didn’t remember that she has brown eyes. I hope she doesn’t present the challenge that my grandsons do: keeping her off a tablet, watching videos or playing games. Thanks for the rest of your post…I haven’t heard of the bread but I’m going to look into it.
Oh those challenges are real…we had three visiting kids for the weekend so she was busy!! Today we are heading to the beach!
Enjoy Summer’s visit! I smiled just hearing you describe watching her. I GET it! My grands often mesmerize me as I try to absorb them —they’re little for such a short time.
Hi Carole
We have the best time with Summer! She is at the dog park with Steve right now. She loves going there because she adores animals. When they get back we will head to the beach!
Thank you for including the link to Mel Robbin’s and Dr. Coughlin. An extremely interesting listen and very eye opening relating to aging. This will be with me for a very long time as I plan for the future.
Hi Trish
I am so glad you enjoyed it! I try to reap what I can when it comes to aging!!
Five things that make me happy… dinner tonight with friends. Making plans with those friends to get together once a month (put it on the calendar!). A fun musical at a local theater (Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat). Making our favorite Sunday breakfast, waffles loaded with berries and bananas. Planning on the new Spiderman movie on 1/2 price ticket day.
So many good things.
PJ! It sounds like you know how to have fun!! You sound like my friend Cheryl!
Hi Cindy,
This picture of Summer is gorgeous, I can see this in a magazine along with you hanging out. You have your head screwed on in the right direction. Chill and enjoy every moment. That “time thief” to do list can wait. If anyone deserves “ time out” you do.
Enjoy the rest of your week with Summer. I bet she adores you. You are such a gift to one another. My grandmother was my best friend as a youngster. She reminds me of you in someways. She owned her own restaurant in Iowa. My mama said people traveled for miles for her meals. Starting work at 4:00am, she did the same when I spent the weekends with her. She studied Julia Childs and so many others. She ran the Berkeley Women’s Facility Club at the university in Berkeley,
CA. She taught me through my observation. All the holidays she prepared and served us in total grace and always like you seemed unflappable. Did all this in a small kitchen too.
Katherine your grandmother sounds wonderful..Steve’s mom was a very good grandmother to our children as well. I hope we will always be close…she is a joy!!
