#1 (drum roll please) 10 Fresh Ways to Style Black and White

If anyone had intimated when I penned this post that it would be the most popular post of the year I would have laughed. Black and white is classic, simple, and almost everyone can wear it. I believe that is why 10 Fresh Ways to Style Black and White after 50 was this year’s favorite.

The most popular posts of the year reflect our collective interests, challenges, and aspirations as women over 50 and beyond. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy interacting with such an engaged, active, talented, inspiring group of women (that’s you). You ladies inspire me every day.

This year has been a year of growth on the blog which created a challenge for me on how to achieve a positive life/work balance and keep up the pace. I made the plunge and hired an assistant. I can’t tell you how happy I am with my decision. I would like to take this time to introduce you to Leslie, my assistant. Leslie has been working behind the scenes with me for several months now. I have known Leslie since she was a freshman in high school. She has a strong background in marketing and communications, organization, and project management. She is extremely knowledgeable and a dream employee. She also knows me like the back of her hand (pretty scary). Below is a picture of Leslie and her darling family.

Here is the link to my annual survey. It is short and sweet (only 6 questions) and it is oh so helpful for me when planning my posts for the year. Thanks for being here and reading the best of CHD’s blog: pop posts that made waves in 2023. I hope to be back to my regular schedule next week.

Love your blog! I look forward to it every week. The survey worked for me but I forgot to mention that I’m interested in how/if short waisted women over 50 can use a thin belt to achieve the 1/3-2/3 ratio to look taller.

Thanks for being such a positive influence, Cindy. Happy New Year!

Cindy, enjoy all the aspects of yourI posts. Well rounded subjects from dressing, home, gardening, cooking, travel. I live in Sonoma, CA., similar vibe and climate to your area, so very relatable. I say just keep doing what you’re doing now. Best Wishes for a Happy 2024.

  3. Donna Ratinoff says

I too love everything you do! I particularly like when you take a few pieces of clothing and accessorize and show how to make several different outfits. I love seeing your home and your different decorating tips. I see you wear a lot of longer skirts. I have forgotten what your height is-I’m 5’2″ and am not sure what length to do long skirts or dresses for my height. One last thing-I have a beautiful antique necklace I got in Mexico City 40 some years ago. I would love to show it to you. I’m thinking of selling it and wonder how much I should ask. I’ve never used EBay.
Thank you for all you do! Your are so talented.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Donna

I am 5’4 currently about 130lbs hopefully not for long. I am way overweight!! Send me a picture of your necklace via email. I do not know much about taxco jewelry but it is very popular and seems to command prices almost as high as American Indian Jewelry.

I cannot get the survey to work, I have tried it on I-Pad, Laptop, Phone.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Cindy,
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S on making the big decision to surrender to the fact you could use some or lots of help. I have often wondered how you do it ALL. I just thought you are “Wonder Woman,” and you have lots of reserves and good health and can function well on less sleep more than the average lady at your (our age). I’m 72 years young so I’m more than a few years older than you. Leslie and her family are adorable and it’s good she knows you well. Compatability is everything in a working and relationship situation. You will serve one another so well. I’m thrilled for you both. Onward and upward to hopefully will be one of the best decisions you made in maintaining your business.
I love everything you do, mostly on all clothing that is cool as in linen, long pants, and tops with lots of style. I live in my Hoka sneakers only because I have serious issues with my feet. I try to hide my “.oh my sneakers” because they look like clod hoopers. It’s really okay, I sincerely feel thankful and grateful I still can walk.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart ♥️ for all the time, effort, and energy you put into everything you do. You amaze me, and you make it look so easy, and I know it’s not.
    To you:
Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come whispering, it will be happier.

I attempted to complete your end of year survey but no luck getting my responses to Submit. So I will tell you I enjoy your blog very much and I love when you share shops, dining, activities in your local area of Paso Robles.

Thanks, Cindy, for your year in review! I’ll be shopping for new glasses frames soon so I really needed this. You were the first blogger I followed and you’re still my favorite! Cheers for a fabulous new year!

I like Kris , only not curvy, well, now a bit more curves as in overweight, appreciate your style.

Suggestions your readers may enjoy for future posts: How to use the rule of thirds in fashion and design. Photography tips.

I’m fairly new to your post, enjoying each of them. You have a sophisticated group of posters, it is IMO difficult to suggest new ideas for your blog.

    Much thanks,

  9. Jackie says

I have followed you for years because you are creative, and inspiring. Keep entertaining us, and Happy New Year!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lee

I posted suggestions for google. It has worked for over 150 people and works for me. I would love your input feel free to email me [email protected] and share your input. Per my assistant that part can be hard to decipher on mobile. If you rank more than one the same it won’t work.

  10. Cath🇨🇦 says

Like others, Cindy, the survey does not allow me to get past ranking to post. I look forward to your blog the most of the ones I follow.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cath

I don’t know what to tell you other than the tips I posted above. I have received over 150 responses so far so it is working for most. Feel Free to email me any suggestions. I will add to the responses.

      • Cindy Hattersley says

+++Cath and anyone else who is having problems please feel free to email me [email protected] with any of your suggestions. I think it might be a browser issue, or firewall. If it doesn’t work on mobile try your laptop. Most of the problems seem to be in the ranking area. Make sure you do not use the same number for two categories or it will not work.

I am so sorry. I know it is working for most by the number of responses I am receiving. I apologize for any inconvenience. Modern technology can be challenging!

  11. RORY says

Survey is not working in area where it requires a rating. I get a message that I can only mark 1 in a row which I have done.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Rory

Recheck and make sure you only checked one. My assistant who is way savvier than I said that it is hard to read on mobile
” That’s the error you get if she had ranked two of those 7 with the same ranking” maybe try on your desktop if you are attempting it on mobile.

  12. Valeri Johnson says

Hi Cindy, I can’t get the survey to work. There seems to be a glitch.
I enjoy your blog so much, especially the fashion and decorating segments.

  13. Krys says

I’m so glad I found your blog! I am small but curvy and I don’t color my hair. I really like a dramatic style with simple designs, no patterns and structured natural fabrics. I have seen many outfits in your posts that resonate with my style. I look forward to more inspiration in 2024. Happy New Year!
