Sunday Five Faves-Sandra Sallin, Slim Paley, Athleta

If you are new here, welcome to our Sunday Five Faves.  Every Sunday Mary Ann, Annie and I share five things that caught our imagination the week before. This week my Sunday Five Faves-Sandra Sallin, Slim Paley, Athleta, and more.

ONE SLIM PALEY ON INSTAGRAM

Do you follow “Slim Paley” on Instagram and her blog slimpaley.com? “Slim” who prefers to remain anonymous is married to a famous comedian, is hilarious (with a self-deprecating sense of humor), and lives in a gorgeous Cape Dutch in Montecito.  I love her humor and musings but am particularly enamored of her gorgeous home which she shares snippets of on Instagram

What is not to love here? Wicker pendants, vintage shutters, an old worktable, and more.

Love, love, love this vignette…

Is this the stairway to heaven or what?

Our Son and daughter in law prepared this for dinner Friday night at the lake and it was delicious. You can find the recipe here Damn Delicious Shrimp Boil

THREE MY FRIEND OVER 70 ROCKSTAR SANDRA SALLIN IN THE LONDON TIMES AND ON YOUTUBE

I want to be like Sandra when I grow up.  My friend Elizabeth introduced Sandra to all of us and we fell in love immediately.  She is charming, gorgeous, witty, and shatters the glass ceiling when it comes to age. Her makeup tutorials are honest and refreshing.  She was recently asked by the London Times to share her expertise and verve.

You will love the article she wrote for the London Times here , Sandra Sallin in the London Times

FOUR ATHLEISURE OPTIONS

My sneakers are worn out.  I just ordered these.  I have bunion issues so I have limited choices, and I am not a runner so I don’t feel I need the latest and greatest. I just want a comfortable shoe I can wear to walk, sit at my computer, and run up and down the stairs!

I am pretty sure we are going to be sheltering in place pretty much through the end of the year for the most part which means we will be wearing more “athleisure wear”.  I am a big Athleta fan and I love this Coaster Luxe Sweatshirt. Note it is longer in the back to cover the bum.  I know many of you might not like this color (I do), but it does come in practically every color in the rainbow as well. When it gets cooler we can layer it with a tee or turtle. FYI I always check Ebay for any option that I am looking for.  You can almost always find exactly the same thing at a discount.  They have this sweatshirt here in many colors (unfortunately not this one)

I don’t usually like patterned yoga pants but I think I might be able to pull these off. The Salutation Pocket II Zebra Tight from Athleta

Again Ebay has these pants in other colors here at a discount.

FIVE UBER TALENTED SHERRY HART DESIGNED DINING ROOM

Sherry just nails it every time, doesn’t she?  Love this dining space from one of her recent projects.

I hope you enjoyed my Sunday Five Faves-Sandra Sallin, Slim Paley, Athleta and more.  As always thank you so much for being here.  It means the world to me.

Late to the party Cindy! I need to just sit down and read blogs for about a week to catch up with everything. Love both Slim and Sandra and have followied them too! That house of Slim’s in SB is beyond and the setting up in the foothills is one of a kind. Sandra is so ispiring and energetic. Love that her makeup is natural and fits her so well!
As for shoes, I confess to having a lot of fitness shoes. I should be a tester! I don’t have a wide foot but lots of runners and walkers love Asics. They have a wider toe box so it helps. New Balance is a good choice too I think. Pick a fun color! xxoo kelley

  2. Beverly Marshall says

I love your blog and look forward to seeing it and being referred to others. The shrimp boil sounds great, and also easy! I’m going to try it on Saturday when we are having friends over. Thanks again for doing what you do…you’re the Best!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Beverly
Thank you so much for the kind words. I so appreciate your support. That shrimp boil is fabulous you won’t be disappointed!

  3. 1010ParkPlace says

I adore Sandy Sallin! She and Bob and I were supposed to meet in London last September but at the last minute, I had to cancel my trip, and I’m still disappointed. She’s such a delight, and we’re all thrilled about how she’s gone viral online. xoxox, B

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Brenda
Sandra is just fabulous isn’t she. You will meet one day and not be disappointed. She is a delight and inspiration to us all. I did not get your email. I will check my spam!

    Dearest Cindy
Thank you so very much for featuring Slim Paley and my SP Instagram on your delightful blog!!
What a lovely birthday present! 🎁💝🎂
I’m surprised we’ve not crossed paths before but certainly better late than never (I’m late for almost everything, so I’ll happily shoulder the blame ☺️)

I’m thrilled for Sandra and her feature in the London Times! I can’t wait to read it!

And ‘La Contessa’ made me laugh with her comment. It was certainly my pleasure to meet and sit beside both she and Sandra. Such stylish, warm and FUN ladies. Elizabeth I’d forgotten about the cookies! 😍 🍪 And that was the amazing Snow Blackerby who printed out my entire blog on beautiful paper and in binders- what a good memory you have. I’m impressed!!

Anyway, thank you SO much again Cindy for all your kind words. I look forward to following along for more new friends, beauty and inspiration (and recipes!)
    With love,
    Xx Slim

You picked 5 goodies for sure! I follow Slim Paley on Instagram, but not her blog … I’ve remedied the situation. That house! Sandra, what can be said … she’s amazing! Beyond thrilled for her London Times feature. I’m making the switch to cream cosmetics after seeing another of her recent videos. Shrimp boil is printed and ready or a more climate-friendly weekend … its 106 here right now. Ugh. Off to get more ice for my tea. xo

    • Sandra Sallin says

Goodness, you listened to me about creams makeup. More coming up. I love your eBay tip Cindy. I’ve been a long time fan. But didn’t connect the clothing stores in my mind. Now I will. Love your 5 tips also.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Juliet
Slim is so fun, isn’t she? She is married to a very funny guy as well. I am sure you know. I made the switch a few years ago. Anything powder lies in the darn creases! We have sure had a summer and year, haven’t we?

  6. Mary Ann Pickett says

LOTS OF GOODNESS HERE. First, you are the Ebay queen…and I appreciate you telling me about the CP Shades skirt over there. So comfortable. Lauren’s seafood boil looks amazing! I am so proud of Sandra and Sherry. You meet the best people through the internet!! Like YOU, Cindy!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Mary Ann

  9. Sandra Sallin says

Goodness, I am honored. First of all to be featured on your blog and secondly to be =featured along with Slim Paley. I’ve admired her blog for years. What a talented woman.i love your Sunday 5. You always have such interesting and varied offerings. My neighbor made one of those Boils for Book Club and we all devoured it. Have you followed Damn Delicious on Instagram? She has the most adorable Corgies that I just love.

Again, thank you for featuring me. I’m honored.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Sandra
My pleasure you are our rockstar! I do not follow damn delicious on Instagram but I do love their recipes. Maybe I better start!!

  10. Lorna says

I follow both Slim and Sandra on IG but I have been having major problems with it for over a week. I am not allowed to comment on or like photos. It’s so annoying. Slim’s home is gorgeous, as is yours. I really enjoy your weekly Five Faves posts.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lorna
I have had that happen IG if you like or comment more than usual assumes you are a bot….very irritating

  11. Nan says

Hi Cindy! Love the color of that Athleta sweat shirt. Recently bought an organic cotton top from Eileen Fisher in her shade called “Fern” that is almost identical in style and color. Thank you for the heads up on Athleta; I didn’t realize they carry petite sizes now.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nan
I really am an Athleta fan as well as Eileen Fisher. I love that color but I know we may be in the minority

  12. SusanKelley says

Your friend’s Cape dutch looks very authentic. MY brother-in-law lived in one in Coral Gables, part of a block of Cape dutch homes. Sadly he is no longer with us, but the memories linger one. especially when I saw the side view of hr house. We have lots of happy memories there. My in laws used to live in Santa Barbara, but moved to Santa Rosa long ago. I always enjoyed the visits there because the weather was so much nicer than humid Florida.Always interesting to read your posts and your friends. I think different viewpoints help expand our horizons which is a good thing. Keep them coming and stay safe!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan
So sorry to hear about your brother in law. I too love the Cape Dutch style. Santa Barbara does have the best weather!

  13. Rosemarie says

I bought NB shoes last month and also HOKA and have walked MILES in them. Both are very comfy.

Enjoyed all of the Five Fab.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Rosemarie
So glad to hear that. I have had very good luck with New Balance and will check out HOKA

  14. Diane Ruebel says

    Hi Cindy,
The Five Fab from the three of you, provides happy inspiration. Thank you for giving so many of us something to look forward to on the weekend.
What size do you wear in the Athleta sweatshirt? I’m deciding between a small and medium for cozy times during our prolonged COVID.
Happy Sunday from Camano Island, WA,
    Diney

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Diney
I usually wear a Small in Athleta. I have not received mine yet, and I debated between the small and medium on this one. I should have it any day. I will email you and let you know how it fits. I definitely want it covering my bum!

  15. Holly says

Always love your Sunday Five Faves posts but this one is THE BEST! Every single fave was a winner! Thanks for the EBay tip!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Thank you for always being so supportive Holly we love you!! I am a total Ebay shopper I confess!

  16. Memee says

If those sneakers don’t work out, try the Ecco Soft 7 sneaker. I, too, sport bunions, and this is the best I have found. Clue: I have five pairs! Great colors, soft leather that molds to foot, comfortable the first time you put them on. Thank Jennifer at A Well Styled Life who recommended them in a blog post some time ago.
