Do You Love Healthy Soups, Spanish Architecture and More

Happy Sunday. Do you Love Healthy Soups, Spanish Architecture and More? Today I am joining my pals Annie and Mary Ann for our Sunday favorites. Let’s have some fun.

GIMME SOME OVEN PHO SOUP

I have prepared variations of this soup numerous times, and have a few easy knockoff’s as well. It is super healthy and I fixed it as soon as Steve got home from the hospital. I have substitured chicken broth for the beef, and used a rotisserie chicken. I have also substituted Trader Joe’s chicken meatballs, or frozen shrimp. I usually prepare mine in the crock pot. It is all about the fresh greens that are added at the end in my opinion. You can find the recipe for Homemade Pho Soup here. Don’t stress if you have to substitute dried spices. I have done that many times as well.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

Every time I see this shirt on someone I am tempted to purchase it for myself. I most recently spotted it on Gray from A State of Gray. Gray’s blog recently turned one. If you haven’t checked out her blog you can do so here. Here I paired the blouse with jeans, leopard mules, and a fun FEED bag (on sale). This particular bag provides 170 school meals to needy children.

TWO BEAUTY PRODUCTS I AM LOVING

I finally made it to Nordstrom’s last week before Steve’s surgery. I have been dying to try the Georgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation. Now I understand what all the fuss is about. It glides on beautifully, covers without looking like it (if you know what I mean). The only downfall is the price. Another pricey item that Mary Ann turned me on to, is the Sunday Riley CEO drops. I add only a drop or two to my foundation and it really provides a nice glow. I have had mine for about 8 months and I have barely made a dent in the bottle. These products are definitely pricey. You can try the travel size of the Armani foundation to see if you like it.

HACIENDA DREAMS ON INSTAGRAM

I am sure it is no mystery that I love Spanish Architecture. If you do as well, you might want to follow Hacienda Dreams on Instagram. You might also enjoy my post Spanish Architecture Redefined here.

UPDATE ON STEVE

As many of you know Steve had his ankle fused at Stanford last Monday. If you can believe it, they sent him home four hours after his surgery. After a couple of pretty painful days he was able to switch to extra strength tylenol, and now is happily riding around the house on his scooter. We even went out to lunch yesterday. Thank you all so much for your prayers and kind thoughts.

Thank you as well for reading Do You Love Healthy Soups, Spanish Architecture and More. I so appreciate you carving a little time out of your Sunday to be here.

Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for more Sunday fun.

Thanks for the update on Steve. So glad to hear he’s up and about. Discharged after 4 hours … oh my. That must have been a long, uncomfortable trip home. Thanks for the tip on the foundation, I’m always looking for the great coverage, but feels like none foundations. Ha! And I just ordered the face oil. Great idea to add to foundation. Love Gray’s blog … and our weekly outfit. Cheers! xo

      Hi Annie

I have been waiting to try it when I could make sure I got the color right. It is too expensive for mistakes! I would highly recommend.

I am so glad you like the foundation. I am sure happy with it. Now Seafood Gumbo sounds delicious!!

  7. Ally says

Glad your husband is home recovering! I twisted my knee (badly) on Tuesday night and am looking at weeks of physio…he has my full sympathies!
The pho soup recipe looks delicious, we are so lucky to have many little pho places nearby that serve up the authentic soup. Many Vietnamese came to our part of Canada as refugees and have stayed contributing so much to our community. Many were French speakers (at that time) so they put down roots here. Campbell’s was making a vegan pho broth in a box. ( not sure if available in the States or if they still make it. It was a good dupe but definitely needed some jazzing up flavour wise. I am going to search for it again and try adding the flavouring agents as per the recipe. Swanson also makes a tinned chicken broth for the Asian market, it’s very clear and delicious. I am going to look for that in our local Asian markets too.

      Hi Ally

Pacific makes a Pho broth that is pretty good as well. We had several good Vietnamese restaurants in the Salinas Monterey Area but only one here as far as I know, in San Luis. We miss that.

Thank you for recommending Hacienda Dreams on Instagram. I too love Spanish design and decorating. It is not always easy to find good sources of inspiration.
I would like to wish Steve a speedy recovery, too.

I think you will enjoy following Hacienda Dreams. Great source of inspiration if you love Spanish Architecture and design.

  9. Francesca B says

Very pleased for you both Steve’s surgery went to well. Yeah!! Good times ahead! Thank you for the soup recipe l am going to make that this week. Happy week Cindy 🙂

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Melinda

The scooter is basically a tricycle set up with a seat that you can rest your knee on so you can keep weight off it

Glad to hear Steve is scooting around! What a relief. The Pho sounds wonderful. The Slanted Door in SF has a good one. This sounds doable. I know it sounds like we are Luddites but I seriously doubt we’ll eat in a restaurant again. So bigs tastes/not big effort is easy to love.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Patricia

The Slanted Door has been closed, but I think they are reopening in a new location. I think they have one in Mill Valley or somewhere in Marin now.

  11. Jackie says

I am looking for a new foundation and will give this Armani a try. Thanks! Also, hurray for Steve’s progress after surgery.

  12. Gray says

Hey Cindy! Thank you for the shout out and giving me a new way to wear the blouse! I’ve never worn it with my animal print drivers! DUH!
I love soups and so will try the Pho recipe.
Thanks for the CEO drops info and the painting of Pat’s is so great. I wish I have more walls to put some of her work on. I signed up for her alerts…
    Happy Sunday!

  13. Wren says

Good morning! I love reading you on a slightly overcast day when I have no responsibilities to run out to. As always, there are interesting topics and I especially want to try the Armani foundation. Alas, where to buy in this area? The only time I ever tried pho was in a broth that was heavy with an oil slick until I found a little place in Santa Maria, right off the freeway, that does a vegan edition along with other very lean broths. I have an image of Steve riding around the house- good thing you have wide halls! Glad he’s bouncing back quickly.

  14. Mary Ann Pickett says

So glad that Steve’s surgery is behind you! OK…I definitely am buying that foundation. The price had me stalling. But my face needs help!
