HIGH HEELS IN THE WILDERNESS SMALL KINDNESS AND OTHER STORIES

Sue is such a good writer and this post doesn’t dissappoint.

KIM’S TRIP TO THE MAUNA KEA HOTEL

Have you been to the Big Island? We traveled there for the first time a couple years ago for a wedding. We stayed next door at the Fairmont. If you are planning a trip you might enjoy her post.

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

I featured this Farm Rio dress in green a few months ago. It is now on sale in green and white. I think the white version would be fun. I styled it with Sam Edelman wrap sandals, one of my favorite Helen Kaminski hats (also on sale), Mar Y Sol bag and etsy hoops.

SHOP THE POST

FINCA PASO ROBLES

One of our favorite spots in Paso to grab a quick bite is Finca in the Market Walk. Even if you are just passing through you can grab a fresh bite and eat on the patio. Their fish tacos, burritos, and ceviche are to die for. Steve and I stop in at least every other week for lunch. It’s always fresh and local.

“FINCA is a casual restaurant which highlights Baja and Sonora style Mexican food with an emphasis on wood-grilled seafood”

That’s it from my desk. What have you been up to this week? Thank you for reading The Best of Summer-Fresh Seafood, Pretty Interiors and Kindness. I will be back on Tuesday with Kim to chat about swimsuits and coverups. Thanks for being here. You can find any previous Sunday favorites that you may have missed here.

Now let’s pop over and visit Annie and Mary Ann for more fun.

Cindy, you have so many cool places in your new home town … winery’s, shops and restaurants. Visiting Pure Salt Interiors is like taking a much needed but brief vacation in the middle of the day. Love Sue and Kim’s trip to Hawaii was divine. xo

Kinda off topic, but you have inspired my daughter, 2 adult granddaughters, and me to day trip from Arroyo Grande to Paso Robles this Saturday (July 15) for shopping inspired by your posts.
First stop Spearhead Coffee. Then Bijou, Haylee &Co, Firefly, Sole Tree, Roux Collective, General Store.
Of course lunch at BL Brasserie.
    Did we miss anything?
Cindy, thank you for understanding our lifestyle . Your taste is impeccable!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Karlie

So glad to hear it! I have never been to Spearhead Coffee. You will have to fill me in on that one. Amsterdam is my go to. If you like olive oil don’t miss We Olive or Passolivo. If yu have time for a glass of wine before you head out, I would highly recommend the Wine Merchant in the Paso Market Walk or the Pony Club! Enjoy!!

What a good post you shared with us today. I want to spend time in each of the rooms, they looked so beach-ready. And the White Farm Rio Dress, I think I need it, it is so pretty and airy, with the heat here in Kentucky, it will be so good.
Today is Day 1 on my 15 day after the holiday detox. The white dress will be my reward! Thank you for your interesting content.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Beth!

So glad you connected with my friend Pat! We will be heading your way the 1st of August. I need to do a detox!!

Thank you Cindy for mentioning Sue’s blog on kindness. She is truly a gifted writer and I look forward to her posts every week! She’s never disappoints!

  6. Cyndi says

    Hi Cindy,
On February 19, 2021, your home was featured on a blog. Lovely! That post just popped up again, and I’m wondering if you could please share what the fabric and fabric color is on the sofas that have the blue pillows? (The ones not facing each other.)
Were the sofas from Pottery Barn? I have looked at their fabrics, but am not sure what will hold up well. I’m afraid of linen due to the wrinkling.
Please share, if you can. Thank you!
    Thanks, Cyndi

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cyndi

I think that was Rhoda’s blog (Southern Hospitality). That was my former home. Those sofas were custom made by my upholsterer. I have them here in my new home as well. They are upholstered in a performance fabric and are very easy care. Serena and Lily has sofas that are nearly identical and offered in the same perennials performance fabric. My fabric is perennials basketweave in paper bag that I think has been discontinued. The beach is very similar. https://rstyle.me/+ltaf3m3vj2Z6hqVLxu6rZQ

Williams Sonoma Home also has a very simillar version also in perennials performance https://rstyle.me/+DPqTQEtWcJFau0BPaifLrA

Have you ever tried white denim slipcovers. My fav! I have the fabric prewashed and dried so it shrinks then and not later. Then I have slipcovers made out of it. This way I don’t worry if the grandkids eat and spill chocolate ice cream on the chairs and the dog wallows on the sofa after a romp in the garden. It is definitely user friendly. AND many of the rich and famous homes have furniture with white slipcovers!

        • Cindy Hattersley says

          Hi Suzanne

I have not.I have had sturdy cotton ones before. The one I have on my den sofa is a performance fabric and I love it. I only have performance fabrics on all of my furniture now. I don’t have a spot on them and they are off white or white! My dining room chairs are also sunbrella canvas. I am a huge fan.

    Dear Cindy,
Thank you for sharing Sue Burpee’s thoughts on kindness in regards to her mother’s passing. I know exactly what she is going through. Like Sue right now I could use words of comfort. Our next door neighbor of twenty two years just passed away. It’s been a heart wrenching week. The loss of a husband is extremely difficult to process, this is on a total different level.
“With a death, a life ends, but a relationship continues.” This hopefully will bring comfort to anyone that is struggling with a loss.
Life is a gift, take care.

Yum! How nice to have such an incredible restaurant as your local go-to spot. I looked at the menu and have to say, I’d need to go back multiple times to try everything that looked delicious. And a shout-out to your OOTW — I recently realized that your use of texture is something that really contributes to your style. I’m going to make that my focus — thanks!

  9. Joanna says

Did you ever review the Bettina tiered shirt dress from Anthropologie? I’ve been wanting to order but it seems so oversized that I’m not sure which size. Some reviewers say it’s huge while many love it.
Finca looks like a lovely place to stop and eat. That patio is perfect and the food looks fresh.

    • Gray says

Hey Joanna – I have it and ordered my usual size. I bought it in pink and green. I have a small and am 5’4″ and 128 lbs. Hope that helps.

  10. Maggie says

I always love your posts and Sue Burpee’s too. You’re my go to for clothes inspiration, and Sue’s my go to for reading inspiration.

  11. Sue Burpee says

Thank you so much for the mention, Cindy. So kind of you. And much appreciated. xo

  12. Kim says

Hi Cindy, thank you so much for mentioning doing my post about the Mauna Kea! That was so kind of you.. I also loved the Fairmont where you stayed-a magical place too. I’m now following salt interiors. She has a great eye! Totally my vibe.
I loved the Farm Rio dress when you first shared it in green and this is really beautiful in the cream color a great piece for the closet..
Max and I still have to get down to your neck of the woods. There’s so many cool spots that you keep sharing!

Looking forward to our posts this week!!
    Have a great weekend. xo

I have got to get up to Paso and check this place out. Probably best some evening when the heat left from the day makes for a balmy outside meal. I did try a new Mexican resto Friday night at the Bonetti Ranch Marketplace in SLO. California Tacos will have its own distillery for making tequila later this summer. The meals I observed were beautifully plated and mine was very good. I wish there was more character to make it feel a little more intimate since it’s mostly one big space and feels more like a cafeteria. But it has REAL margaritas (as opposed to ones who make them with wine; they just don’t cut it). And both bartenders were women!

  14. Vicky says

Finca is one of our new faves too. Halibut tacos! Yes, please! And such a cute little garden space, lovingly tended.

Thanks for the reminder of Sue’s post on Kindnesses. I now live in the glow of kindness as friends and neighbors are expressing it in so many ways. My husband of 42 years passed on Friday, 30 June. Yes, it’s been hard but the edges are softened by the affection I have felt and seen. The Dalai Lama said it well, “My religion is kindness”. I have now seen it firsthand and am blessed.

    • Gray says

Holly, I am thinking of you. I am so so sorry you’re missing your sweet hubby. That’s got to be so hard. Peace to you. 💙

  16. Gray says

Great post Cindy. I love Sue’s piece on kindness, I could use some from local friends right about now, but no one in sight.
    Love the outfit too!
