How to Elevate your at Home Style

It didn’t seem long ago that we were all hoping that early 2021 would usher in a sense of normalcy. Unfortunately, many of us are still at home for a while longer.  Do you find yourself staying in your pj’s a little longer than you should?   Annie, Mary Ann, and I decided to get our blogging friends Jennifer and Susan together and share some ideas about how to elevate your at-home style. Trust me you will feel better.

ELevate your at home style

I have been guilty of wearing comfort clothes to cover up  “the extra pounds from all the comfort food”.   I got caught in the act the other day on a zoom call. Anyone else guilty as charged? Now I need to elevate my at home style.  Let’s be realistic we are home, we want to be comfortable.  Most of us aren’t going to wear a lot of jewelry or accessories, so you won’t be seeing that today. We can however apply a little makeup, put on some stylish comfortable clothes, and buy some new workout wear.  It will make us feel better about ourselves and our current situation.

BANANA REPUBLIC, MADEWELL, ATHLETA AND NORDSTROM

I actually purchased this sweater from the Banana Republic by mistake for my daughter.  I pulled it out of the bag and tried it on.  It is cozy and as comfortable as a bathrobe but looks a bit more polished.  I could wear this everyday. It comes in camel and blue as well. I am wearing it here with my Madewell mules, this soft layering turtleneck from Nordstrom, and my favorite stellar crop/tight from Athleta.  These particular mules are no longer available but I have linked the ones that are now available on Nordstrom Rack for $39.99 and equally as cute!!

I have to be honest currently this would be a “dressed up” look even though I am not wearing any accessories or jewelry other than simple silver posts.

J JILL VEST AND SORREL BOOTS

I wear vests all the time.  They suit our climate and my office is freezing.  I linked to this J Jill Vest earlier.  I love that it covers the bum and has side zippers for comfort. it is on sale and still available in black and a black and white pattern. I am wearing it with the Athleta Stellar/Crop tights that I have bragged about for the last two years. They are only available in small sizes (linked below) but there are tons on Ebay here .I have had these sorrel boots for a few years they are toasty and comfy and linked below.

J CREW SUPERSOFT YARN SWEATER, BANANA REPUBLIC JEANS AND ARTEMIS MULES

Oh my gosh sorry about the hair in the eye and the overweight look (we are all friends here right?).  I love this sweater from J Crew.  I have it in grey, black, and this pretty lavender. The jeans are new from Banana and the Artemis mules are a splurge ( ladies save your money). I am not a big fan of pattern but love this little bit of pattern on the foot.

As I noted in my last post I have returned to Weight Watchers. It is my go to program when I need to lose a few pounds (this is not sponsored). I know I will never last on an overly restrictive diet.  I find their program practical eas,y to implement and follow.  I have more than a few pounds to lose this time but I know if I am patient and stay the course they will come off. Now I need to find a simple, practical online excercise program to follow.  Any suggestions?

TARGET SWEATSHIRT, ATHLETA TIGHTS AND NEW BALANCE SHOES

My other at home uniforms consist of something like this. Don’t be afraid to mix the high and low.  This is a Target Sweatshirt and it is great.  It also comes in several other colors. The tights are Athleta (more expensive but thicker and purchased on sale) These are sold out but they still have the leopard version that I also own. My tennies (can we still call them that?) are New Balance (cut wide for the bunion) from DSW.  I don’t need the latest and greatest in tennis shoes.  If you don’t either you can find them for a good price. Do I look like I am going for a run? Nope, but I need to.

Love all of your outfits especially the black cardigan and black and red long vest. You always look fantastic and I agree with others that your hair is gorgeous! Health and fitness is on my mind too. I really need to figure out an exercise plan that works with my crazy work schedule!

Hi Cindy, my daughter was wearing ON shoes when she was here and I LOVED them. They are athletic shoes I think made in Sweden and look like they tie but they are a slip on!
Check them out…..usually you are the one with all of the great suggestions which my closet thanks you for! By way of makeup, there are some excellent tutorials on the Bobbi Brown site regarding makeup that looks natural (but isn’t of course).
Love love your new haircut too……and your sunglasses 😎

Sharon I checked them out and they look fabulous will certainly give them a try when mine wear out which seems to happen rather quickly anymore! Thanks for being so supportive over the years I so appreciate it!

    Hi,
I started Pilates with The Balanced Life about 18 months ago. You can get a membership for about $25/month or to check it out go to YouTube for some free short programs. Lots of variety and support. Their Moto is Grace over Guilt.

Now that I see two of you are starting Weight Watchers I might do that too!
    Best,
    Max

These are some stylish looks for at-home, Cindy. Of course, I’ve never seen you look anything less than stylish and pulled together. Your hair looks amazing. I’m trying to up my stay-at-home game this year … my pandemic weight gain has made me hesitant to invest in anything new, but I think the time has come. Absolutely, love your plaid vest and that gorgeous JCrew sweater. I’m back on my Jenny Craig based eating plan … so hard with my husband not traveling. He wants to eat like ‘normal people’. 🙂

Hey Cindy, I need warm leggings. Are the athelta ones warm? Mine seems to be cold. I’m going to buy that Target top. Suddenly it’s actually cold here in Los Angeles. Maybe the vest also. I wear tights or PJs every day. Who knows if I can fit into my jeans anymore. My way of losing weight is to use the Loseit. Program on my iWatch and iPhone. Have I lost any? No!! So recomendations please for warmth for Sandy!

    Cindy,
I confess I’ve let my style slip a bit. I dress appropriately when I visit the grocery store but the second”d I get home I change into what I consider “comfy” clothes. This post had several things I could use to up my “at home” style.
    Thanks.
    Karen

Oh how wonderful it is to enjoy your post today, after the debacle at the Capitol yesterday! One favorite exercise work out tape I use is (yes old school VHS cassette) DENISE AUSTIN Ultra-Light Work Out. It feels like I’m working out with a friend as I watch her and she is so effervescent. Low impact routine, meant for us of a certain age, uses hand-weights. My physical therapist advised me: for women over 65, stick with 3# or5# padded hand weights and always wear supportive cushioned shoes while exercising.

I made a pact with myself at the pandemic start, that pajamas would be limited to sleeping in bed purpose only, but athleisure wear is perfect! There are so many cute, comfy, cozy styles AND you FEEL good and ready to move while wearing them.

One thing I discovered this year as I “Embraced The Grey” and stopped coloring my hair, was how fantastic lavender looks with grey hair. You look slim, trim, and chic in all your looks today!

You’re always so cute Cindy! Fortunately or Unfortunately, I’m still going into work every day, so no pjs or sweats for me! But your choices are beautiful for my weekends – might have to do a little shopping here. 🙂 Thanks as ever for the great inspiration!

I love you in the lavender turtleneck! In fact, I gave Howard your link to get me the green one for Christmas and he did. This is fun as I get to see your pretty face!! Thanks for organizing!

    Ciao Cindy
Già espresso il mio parere su Instagram, cioè che il colore lilla ti dona enormemente. E come sempre molto molto trendy.

I do regular zoom calls with two different groups of women and every time, each one of them call me out for looking good: makeup and a necklace. Some of them complain about the way they have “let themselves go,” but they do nothing about it. Very sad. xoxox, B

Just a question–do you not like the Artemis mules? I can’t wear mules because they slide too much, but I love the Artemis loafers. They are pricey but might be worth a splurge if they’re comfortable.

  13. Joanna says

I never fell into the lounge wear, jogging pants craze that took over 2020. I still dressed every morning in jeans or chinos. I did stop wearing make up other than mascara as who saw your face? I did however pack on the pounds and have to buy pants a size up. Ouch! At the start of 2021, .I decided enough of over indulging and drinking wine, I’ve started a simple diet of cutting out wine with dinner and intermittent fasting until noon. We all have to follow an eating program that works best for our life, right? I’ve never looked into Weight Watchers but it must be a success as it’s been around for years.

I love, love, love that vest!! And the jeans are already on their way to me:) you look fabulous. I’m thinking those shoes need to go on my wish list because I have bunions too! This was so fun! Thanks for including me

I love your style and honest approach to all topics. Just yesterday I decided to up my game and add one new casual outfit to my wardrobe so today’s post was timely for me. I think you look great!

Your choices for home are terrific! The long vest would be fine, but I don’t like the one that is left. Even overweight, you look darling. I am on weight watchers too.

I am finding i enjoy your pics of your home. I live in NE Florida and many of the cloths ideas are too war and collecitons. The California vibe is so different than warm ,humid fla.m for us most of he year. But I do enjoy seeing your home. We had relatives who lived in Santa Barbara and it was so ice ot visit because of the climate difference. Pleas stay safe and keep posting. Thanks

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Susan
I have very good friends that live in New Smyrna Beach. I do know how hot Florida can get, Linen all year round, right? Growing up in the Midwest we spent a lot of vacations in Florida to escape the cold !

  20. Denise says

Wow! I really like these pictures of you. Those sunglasses do nothing for you!
    Like the fashion too! Denise

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Denise
I wear sunglasses when I am outside because in my old age I always look like I have my eyes closed in pictures! Now that I have a new camera I can take pictures indoors.
