Chalkboard Anything & Everything…Stay or Go? I still think this can be clever in a commercial setting such as this below. But, have we overdone it on the homefront?
Sheepskin and Faux Sheepskin Throws …Stay or Go? I thought these were “cute” in the beginning but havn’t they been draped, hung, and thrown on every surface known to man? Or do you still love them?
Cutesy Signs…Stay or Go? Our electric panel is in our laundry room in a very conspicuous spot. I have seriously considered one of these signs because I do not know what else to do with it, but I am getting a little weary of them, you?
Lucite Furniture…Stay or Go? I liked a simple ghost chair but obviously a room full of lucite is not my thing. How about you? What do you think?

Garden Stools…Stay or Go? Hate me if you want but I NEVER got on board with this one. Wisteria at one time had one that I liked. Never got it…still don’t get it.
Barn Doors..Stay or Go? I may really hear from you on this one. I still like them in certain settings where they look like they belong… but really everywhere… What do you think?
Heavy faux finished walls and cabinets. Yep I had them in a lovely shade of bronze.

Midcentury Mania? Do you still love it or would you like to see a piece or two mixed in with some from another century?
Sheepskin Rugs? Overused or do you still feel the love? I still have one in one of my guest bedrooms. I am thinking it is time for it to go.
Which of these do you think need to hit the high road? Do you have any trends that you are REALLY tired of that you would like to add to the list?
Everything I see everywhere I don't want. Especially cutsie signs. I too am a child of the 50's, so a mid century reference is delightful but a roomful is silly. My main bugaboo is mass market "art". Make it yourself, buy from local artists or etsy, highlight your collections or oddities. Anything but the mass market junk.
I have sheepskin rugs on my chairs for my arthritic dogs. It really isn't about a look. More about their comfort. I love chinese garden stools, I have my granny's blue and white ones all through my house. I must say though that I have had them for years. Along with my chinese blue and white porcelain inherited from family. I guess I do what I like and try not to go with trends. Lucite is an absolute no. So cold and not inviting. Now, chinoiserie screens make me swoon.

This is a good post. It really makes you think before you spend. Sometimes I remember something I wanted SO badly but couldn't afford. Now I am glad I'm not stuck with it. But I do love barn doors!
I havent gotten into any of these although i do love the look of a barn door. i'll tell you what was all over round top this fall. sit down. windmills. big, small, and every size in between. parts of one. whole ones. you name it. my friends kept asking why? i think the whole joanna gaines magnolia thing???? if what i saw at round top is an prediction i'll be watching though for windmill parts to be hanging on walls throughout america.
That is so funny that you mentioned that Nancy. I noticed that trend last year as well. I do think Round Top is a great indicator of the latest trends. Didn't you have so much fun? I am hoping to go back in the fall!

I never liked the sheepskin for my own house, but had seen it look nice in magazines and elsewhere. Same with the Lucite ghost chairs…to modern feeling for me. I still like some of the other items for country farmhouse style but that's not my style. I try to stay true to my favorite looks and actually have several pictures in case I lose my way. It's easy to stray with some of the great rooms one spots online! Great reminder to keep focus with the clever looks that come along and not end up with a hodge podge in one's home. 🙂

I don't have any of the things you mention here except a garden stool on the patio (I like them especially the understated ones)and one galvanized tray. I've NEVER liked chalkboards – too messy? I like barn doors in farm houses and barns; I agree with you – a lucite piece but not a room full; I like some scripture signs but not all the other cutesy ones – just too many. Good post! Makes one think … 🙂

Throw pillows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have wore these out. Do we discuss underwear? Pillow arrangements are that needed and command. Change them out, add them but NO NEED TO BEAT IT TO DEATH IN DISCUSSIONS ON BLOGS. Thanks for asking. Nan, Odessa, DE
I tend to enjoy a slightly classical look but I'll add something "trendy" if I like it, not because it is in fashion. To me my home has to be about comfort and relaxation and a place where friends feel welcome, where they feel so at home they want to linger a little, that to me is more important than a home that has the latest look or on trend accessory. Having said all of that I am totally in love with blues and greys and mustards for colour at the moment, I won't change our house but I do get to play in our guesthouse, this is where I can be creative!!
You hit on something…comfort is key isn't it really? I like a "little modern" but all modern is just not inviting or comfortable. Our home should be our "oasis" as you have pointed out.
You should never follow a trend and if you love sheeps= skin and chalk boards or something else and you feel comfortable and cozy…that's OK. B.t.w. all of those
are not my style but ….if you feel OK with that, please just enjoy. Let every man

Absolutely Mumbai. By the way I did check and at this time Artful Home is not shipping out of the country. They have had to many problems with things not making their destination. They are workin on it for the future though.

I enjoyed this list and your comments. In this day of abundance of photos and communication,I'm starting to wonder if it's possible for anything not to be "overdone"! And, I am totally with you regarding the barn doors – only right in limited situations. I was buying galvanized items 25 years ago, so I guess I was a little ahead of the trend, but most of them are either on the front porch or actually being used as they were intended.

Paula you sound like my kinda girl! I love old galvanized outside. I have a few pieces at my lakehouse. But has it been overdone? Probably. Your point is well taken with all the social media coverage today. I guess as Karen commented we just need to keep our wits about us and try not to get caught up in every trend that comes our way!
I think all of these have been overdone. It's nice to use a trend or two–it keeps things up to date, but following every trend is just too much. Rooms should have a collected look of several years and it should be representative of the owner's taste. Of course, I realize everyone does not agree…just giving my thoughts.
Connie you are preaching my gospel!! Totally agree. Alas we all get caught up in a fad or two but I love a collected look that says a "real person lives here"!!
I tend to keep what I like and not go in for the fad things. Chalkboard only in kitchen, unless you have a child and then maybe one in their room.

Well, I still like a couple of mid-century chairs in a mix of newer traditional…or a lucite coffee table. Tired of the faux finished walls. And I still like your zebra hide in the guest room!

I'm not much a trend girl. Consider the chalkboard "trend." Almost 40 years ago I painted my son's room with a chalkboard alcove. Said child is EGADS! almost 40! I like chalkboards in home kitchens. The picture with the sheepskin isn't the overdone why was it done to me as the stacks of wood stored inside the house. It "bugs" me. And I absolutely hate midcentury. Being born in late 1949, I am midcentury. Do what makes your heart happy.

Absolutely!!! Follow your heart in what you love to put in your home, even if it is "dated" to others! Besides, absolutely every style/trend/fad comes back around again at least once in a lifetime! :O
Marian if you are close to my age you have seen it happen more than once!! I grew up in the midwest and in the 50's some people covered their furniture with plastic! I hope that one never comes back!
