Trad Home Napa Valley Show House Tour Part One ….The Farm House

image

My friends and I have gone tothe Trad Home Napa Valley Show House the last couple of years together. I don’t know if you have ever gone on a Showhouse tour but if you haven’t you want to go with my two friends.  Roxanne is a Stylist and Pat is the wonderful artist you have seen featured many times on my blog.  Between the three of us, we do not miss a detail.  Let’s just say we cross each other’s T’s . Here are my friends loving being photographed on the porch of the wonderful Cheese Barn.
imageI have been uber busy the last few months.  I purchased the tickets, put the date on my calendar and went on with my life.  I am fairly familiar with Napa as I decorated and managed the remodel of my sister’s house in Napa when she was still living in Chicago and we visited many times while they lived there for five years.  As we were driving up there was very little signage until we were almost there.  The Caldwell Vineyard is on the East side of Napa in a not so obvious place. Thank god for GPS ( I have to say I was wondering if I had the information correct my life does get crazy at times I will admit it).  We came upon this lovely simple farmhouse and I thought to myself did Trad Home screw up this year?

I noticed they never showed any pictures of the exterior of the home only property shots.  There literally was no one around (we were early, however).  The parking was in a very obscure place.  At any rate, all I can say is never “judge a package by it’s wrapping”. I don’t know how you feel about show houses.  Do you love it when Designers go in and put their stamp on a space no matter what the style of the house?  If so you would probably not like this one.  Do you prefer t to see the integrity of the property (it is on the national historic register) maintained and not bastardized by whatever the current rage is?

I got a press release of the designers involved (some I was aware of some not) and thought hmmmmm I wonder what they will do.
Well…the three of us were should I say “gobsmacked” as my friend Debra from 5th and State would say.  Almost every single designer took into consideration the integrity and history of the space which I personally think is incredibly laudable. There were a couple of areas that I frankly did not get…but to each their own, right?  A limo pulled up with an inebriated /group of 30 somethings and hey…they loved the couple spots the rest of us didn’t get.  So there you go.
Our tour began in the kitchen/breakfast nook area designed by Catherine McPhee and her daughter Justine  http://www.macfeedesign.com
I love their rustic sensibility.

The kitchen was beautifully done in keeping with the simple farmhouse style of the home.  The interior of the cabinets on the upper right was painted the same tangerine as the rug.  Love the painted floor.

Note the detail on the chopping block next to the stove.  These ladies did not miss a beat.

The kitchen counters are concrete.  I loved the finish and the edge detail.

Love the Powder Bath off the Kitchen…

Note the transition between the painted floor of the kitchen/nook and the porcelain tile in bath.

We loved the bespoke farmhouse look Cathleen Govea achieved utilizing so many textural elements.  We all loved the room she designed in the previous Napa Showhouse.  You can read about that here  http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2012/10/traditional-home-napa-valley-showhouse.html

West End Napa appropriately used a light hand when designing the dining area.  Loved the mix of old and new here…

The master bath by Annie Bowman and Ralf Runge featured a porcelain tile very similar to what we used in the Tahoe House. Loved every detail of this bath. I particularly liked the simple design of the shade. Apparently the Caldwell’s are not big fans of overdone window coverings.  Hence the restraint seen here.

Tish Mills designed the Guest Bedroom and Bath. Once again she remained true to the history of the property with her design.

The Show House is open now until November 16th.  I would highly recommend seeing it if you can.  You can purchase tickets here http://www.traditionalhome.com/napashowhouse.  I have a busy week with Berries and Branches.  Follow me on Instagram for sneak peeks of that.  I will post the second half of the tour later this week.  The Cheese Barn was to die for. Seriously the best is yet to come!!  Stay tuned you do not want to miss it!!

still in "gob smacked" land 🙂
finally the restraint of a common theme for the good of the house. makes me crazy when room after room is overly styled with no relation to anything else. good job trad home!

Wow Cindy, you are right, the east coast and west coast are so differrent in the ShowHouse look! I like this one best!! It looks warm, chic and so inviting. The one I went to here looks so slick and impersonal. LOVE this post! and what great friends you have. xox Nancy

    Cindy,
I love Napa and this house seems ideal as far as keeping to the integrity of the architecture of the home as well as its setting. There were so many details in the kitchen, I have to go back and study some more! You gotta love the large Hermes lamp on the vintage wood cheese board. This was fun, thanks for the armchair tour.

Love that powder room! It's beautiful, and that bathroom looks heavenly. Don't laugh, but what I am really loving is the door and its hardware in the last photo. Crazy, huh? Thank you for sharing, and I can't wait to see the cheese barn!
