Project Design Gallery Wall

image
Hi Everyone!  Maryann (Classic Casual Home) and I got together a few weeks ago and thought it would be fun to come up with a couple of easily executed design projects a year and involve some of our favorite blogging buddies.  We have found that one of the projects  our clients find challenging is creating a gallery wall.  I did a tutorial a while back on  gallery walls here http://roughluxeperspective.blogspot.com/2013/01/gallery-wall-tutorial.html
The easiest way to make a gallery wall appear unified is to pick a common theme, or use works in a similar color palette that will complement each other and the space.  Let it reflect your personal sense of style and play with shapes and scale. There are no rules. Most often my clients want help displaying family photos in a stylish way.  I have a couple of personal rules when displaying family photos.  I think they are more appropriately displayed in family areas  (ie the family room, hallways, bedrooms, offices, etc.), but it is completely a personal decision.
Choosing photos of identical scale and color in identical frames is super easy to achieve and has great impact.

I love the layered look of this photo gallery wall . It is a little more complicated but still very simple to execute.

This arrangement would a little more of a challenge but if you check out my tips on my pinterest board here http://www.pinterest.com/chattersley/gallery-walls/, you can do it!!

A Gallery wall needn’t be resigned to the obligatory family photos.  If you have a large wall that you don’t know what to do with why not think outside the box?

I love the images leaning – such a great idea. Wish I could do one with different sizes and shapes, but can't imagine getting them to hang so beautifully! We love being a part of this!!

Lovely photos………I especially like the pup tucked into the last shot in the bed!Re-doing the BOYS room at the moment and am thinking a collage of mirrors……..that will mean I need a lot of STUDS in the wall according to the CONTRACTOR husband!!!

Great examples, Cindy!!! I love the symmetry of the first one over the bench. I agree with you about where to place family photos. Love the one with the mirrors, too. This is fun!!! Glad you thought of it.

Hi Cindy! wasn't that hilarious last night? See what happens when you're friends with a windows live writer reject? I did finally google how to schedule posts and apparently it doesn't require an advanced degree. As usual I love your selection of images, and can't even pick my favorite, but I do wish I had that collection of landscapes. And of course, Lauren's bedroom is amazing. This is such a fun project, thanks for including me.

I adore the image with the vintage tape measures!
I have a small collection. I guess I need to keep going!
    Now that presentation is cool!!!

      Hi Terry
I think those are vintage fishing reels but the tape measures would be fabulous as well! I was thinking the fishing reels would make a great gallery wall here at the lake!

Cindy I had a gallery wall of botanicals for years and just wanted to make a change. I love how gallery walls can make a collection of art or photography so cohesive!

I actually never thought of doing overlapping art that's hung on the wall like in your second inspiration image – love that idea. Such a fun series – I can't wait to see the gallery walls that everyone comes up with!

I am really liking the layered look of the photos on the shelves! And that fly fishing reel collection is amazing. Thank you so much for coming up with the idea of doing this with us. I look forward to seeing everyone's completed projects!
