How to Transition your Christmas Ornaments from Holiday to Any day

If you avoid the overtly literal Christmas items (anything red and green, with santa, sleighbells or reindeer) it is possible to upcycle and use your beautiful ornaments year round.  Artful Home has some gorgeous art glass ornaments that can do just that.  They asked me to choose some favorites and come up with some creative ways to use them now and later. I started with two groups in order to show you how to transition your Christmas Ornaments from Holiday to any day.

I thought initially these mother of pearl art glass ornaments were my personal favorites.   I could use these in so many places in my home.  They remind me of spun sugar. I photographed them outside to get the color as accurate as possible.  Check out the pic on the website above as well.  Each one is a little bit different.  They are heavy and beautifully made.

I used them in this arrangement for an Entertaining post I did last week. I wanted a transitional arrangement that had an Indian Summer vibe since we are nowhere near Fall weather here. The ornaments pulled in the golds of the sunflowers and pomegranate leaves.

I love them with the caspari dot napkins (from Amazon).  You will remember I used the same napkins in the Spring for my daughter’s baby shower. The crackle glass votives are mine and very old,  similar here. I always have solid matte gold cocktail napkins (from Amazon) on hand.  They are reasonable, can be used through fall, into Christmas and the New Year, as they aren’t sparkly.

When the votives are lit the ornaments take on an ethereal quality. Can you tell I am in love with these?!

I have to confess I am not a big fan of Halloween. I would, however, be game for a Halloween themed dinner party.  The napkins were from Pottery Barn several years ago but there are similar leopard napkins on Amazon. The black double-faced satin ribbon is also available on Amazon. Add a few blooms from your yard and you are good to go. Love how the crackled surface of these mother of pearl ornaments combines with the texture of the plate.

The mother of pearl ornaments above could be used in so many different vignettes no matter your color scheme. I knew the minute I saw them I would like them.  However, these blue beauties surprised me. Top left, bella notte,  top right sea spray, and bottom crystal blue persuasion. All three are by different artists but they are perfectly gorgeous together. Check the pictures in the catalog for image accuracy.

These would be incredible in a bowl anywhere near the coast, which of course I am not.  And did I mention I have no blue in my home that is even close to this gorgeous blue.  But surprise, look what happened. I threw them in a rustic Romanian redware bowl with some cholla cactus and moss.

I placed them in my dining room next to this painting by Pat Huber.  I love the juxtaposition of the rustic and the refined.

I tossed them in this vintage trough similar to this one at Pottery Barn, and placed it on my antique traveling trunk in my entry.  They would be equally pretty center stage on a dining table.

I mixed them with moss, boxwood, leaves and morning glory (the exact blue) from my garden.
