Valentines Wisdom & a Great Tunic from Artful Home

How do you feel about Valentines Day? Is it overrated? Is it more about jewels, candy and impossible to get dinner reservations than a time to honor and celebrate the love we share with our mates?  I have heard it said that Valentines Day is horrible for two kinds of people…those who are single and those who are not.  I feel sorry for the men in our lives.  They are damned if they do and REALLY damned if they don’t come up with the goods!

If you did get one of those ridiculously hard to get reservations at your favorite restaurant, are you looking for something fun to wear?  I love the Concord Mesh Tunic from Comfy USA for Artful Home.  It is a soft, floaty layering piece with a flattering handkerchief hem. The semi-sheer sleeves flatter the over 50 arms with just the right amount of coverage. Artful home calls it “romantic yet alluring”, so what could be better for dinner with your favorite Valentine?

Here are a few of my favorite things to go with this fabulous tunic.  I have included a cashmere wrap, cashmere should be cheaper this time of year, spring is coming.  I love the company Tatine.  Their candles and apothecary are very earthy and organic smelling.  Locally you can find them at Patine in Soquel or at Tancredi & Morgen in Carmel Valley. They sell mainly in small boutiques another reason to support them. I also included my all time favorite cologne Jo Malone Lime, Basil, and Mandarin.

Clockwise from center: the Concord Mesh Tunic, by Comfy for Artful Home.  Love that Burns candle from Tatine (I love their products).  You can buy them at Tancredi & Morgen if you are local.  Deborah Lipman Red Polish, Mac Ruby Woo Lipstick (my fav red right now), Halogen Faux Leather Leggings, French Sole Leopard Flats, French Kande Burnt Jade Necklace, Nordstrom Tissue Weight Cashmere Wrap , Rebecca Minkoff Red Clutch , Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne (my absolute favorite cologne), and a vintage brass cuff from One Kings Lane.

If your partner showers you with goodies, it is only fair that he be shown some love as well.  I know my husband can always use a little help with putting his clothes together. Here you will find some steals and a couple splurges.  He is worth it, right?

Clockwise from top center Secret Wash Red Plaid Shirt from J Crew (my husband has this shirt and loves it), Tom Ford Oud Wood Bodywash (always ranked as one of the top favorites), it is pricey but everyone loves it. Olukai Moloa (great comfort shoes for men that are fairly fashion friendly).  My husband has foot problems and only wears these shoes. Leather belt from J Crew.  Don’t guys always need a decent belt? Ray-Ban Sunglasses (on sale).  My husband is always leaving his somewhere. Great Khaki pants from the Gap (they have a great price point and are great looking), leather iPhone case from J Crew (it has a slot for a credit card on back), Timex Expedition (great looking watch for the money), and Tom Ford Oud Wood Cologne (definitely a splurge item).

Love

Do you have plans for Valentines Day or do you just treat it like any other day? Perhaps every day should be Valentines Day?  Do you think the trick to keeping your partnership strong and healthy is to treat each day as if it were your anniversary or Valentine’s Day? My husband and I have been married for 41 years.  We have had a lot going on the last few years but now we are trying to make a point of having more fun!  Have a great weekend!

Thanks for introducing me to Artful home. They have some fabulous tunics. I’m a big Jo Malone fan too. I love French Lime – so crisp and fresh. It always perks me up. I’ll have to try the lime with mandarin sometime. Maybe for Valentine’s Day?? Cheers, Deborah

You are always so stylish. I love your choice of mesh tunic. Great looking. Valentines day? I give my husband of 57 years a big kiss and tell him he’s my valentine. I probably will go to Edelweiss Chocolates and buy him some chocolate covered Cherries. I might buy one chocolate for myself. But bottom line we’re lucky we have each other and every day we do is a gift.

I love the tunic and all of those touches of red. It’s a tradition for us (43 years) that we dine in on Valentine’s. Here in a university town, it’s a crazy time. We avoid the crowds and the rush and dine in.We splurge on a couple bottles of wonderful wine (red of course) and I cook. During our marriage, my husband has indulged my every whim in my kitchen. He has given his love many times over…now I return the favor. At 68, I don’t need gifts—just time. Works for us.

I love that tunic, with those leather pants it would look fantastic. What a fun collection you have put together, and I am right with you on the cuff, gorgeous, perhaps I should show this to my husband!

Hi Susan! I hope the hubby sprung for that gorgeous cuff. I could see it on your wrist with your gorgeous coloring!!

There are always several different scents from Jo Malone on my perfume shelf. I wear scent every day and like to occasionally layer the ones purchased from Jo Malone.
I’ve already ordered a flyaway tunic and am looking forward to incorporating the look with other pieces. It should definitely add panache to the wardrobe.
Your posts are inspiring and I look forward to receiving them.

Thank you so much Kate. I so appreciate your sweet comments. Would love to hear your Jo Malone favorites!

I’m so incredibly lucky to have a wonderful man in my life for the first time in over 40 years. Just having someone to talk to and hug and love is more than enough for me. Who needs a card or chocolate?
